Kehilangan hasil yang berarti akibat penyakit belum banyak dilaporkan di Indonesia atau bahkan di negara lain. Hama dan penyakit dapat berpotensi menyebabkan masalah di masa yang akan datang, mengingat tanaman ini semakin banyak dibudidayakan di Indonesia. Masih minimnya penelitian tentang tanaman buah naga khususnya di Sumatera Utara mengakibatkan sulitnya petani dalam melakukan pengendalian karena petani belum mengetahui penyakit-penyakit yang dijumpai pada tanaman tersebut.

The genera are: Hylocereus, Selenicereus and Epiphyllum. Only Selenicereus megalanthus combine characteristics of the first two genera. Genetics and breeding: Selenicereus megalanthus is tetraploids (4n) while all others are diploids (2n). We obtained inter-clonal, interspecies, and intergeneric hybrids with much improved characteristics, to the point that today we have new excellent hybrids which can provide fruits from July to May. Physiology: All plants are of the CAM (crassulacean acid metabolism) photosynthetic pathway; hence use 10% of water other plants are using in the same environment. CO2 enrichment increases both the vegetative and reproductive productions. Nitrogen fertilization should accompany the CO2 enrichment to get maximum efficiency. Stomata were found on the fruit surface functioning through the CAM pathway. Stomatal density is much higher on the fruit scale than on the fruit surface. Cytokinins induces and gibberelliic acid (GA3) delays flowering. Scale shrinking is the major reason to shorten the shelf life. Root system is very shallow maximum depth, 40cm. Uses: There are more uses to the plants parts other than the fruit, such as fruit pigments as coloring agents, edible flowers and more. This study was aimed at isolating and screening Streptomyces strains from rhizosphere soils of Hylocereus polyrhizus collected in Kuala Pilah for potential in vitro antifungal activity. A total of 162 putative strains of actinomycetes was isolated from moist-heat treated soil plated on starch- casein-nitrate agar, humic-acid-vitamin agar and raffinose-histidine agar. Based on the ability to produce abundant aerial mycelium, 110 strains were categorised as Streptomycete-like. Seven main groups based on aerial mycelium colour observed in this study were grey (41.4%), white (37.7%), brown (8.0%), orange (4.3%), yellow (4.3%), green (2.5%) and black (1.9%). Three pathogenic fungi, namely, Fusarium semitactum, Fusarium decemcellulare and Fusarium oxysporum were isolated from the diseased stem regions of Hylocereus polyrhizus. The actinomycetes were screened for in vitro antagonistic activity against the isolated pathogenic fungi. In the qualitative screening, 23 strains were able to inhibit at least one of the three pathogenic fungi. In the quantitative screening, three strains, C17, C68 and K98, showed the highest antagonistic activity (70-89%) against all the fungal pathogens.

Ballengee Anne Arundel Communtiy College, Maryland [email protected] This article positions performance as a key concept in understanding creolization. In doing so, it situates music as both sound and archive in analyses of Trinidadian tassa drumming, soca, and chutney-soca. Musical analysis provides useful insights into the processes of creolization, while revealing colonial and postcolonial relationships between groups of people that give shape and meaning to the music, past and present. I draw on notions of music as sound to further analyze the forces that work to control the Trinidadian soundscape by promoting or marginalizing musical styles in an effort to shape musical production according to the ideal of creole culture. I conclude by suggesting that the conventional notion of the archive has from its very beginnings been connected with elite desires to enumerate and historicize positions of power. In this context, musical performances analyzed in this study emerge as subaltern archival practices that run alongside mainstream archives and popular interpretations of history. In listening to Trinidadian music as sound and archive, I trace present and potential social structures while providing new ways of thinking about creolization as performance. In areas of new development, while contemporary medical treatments are more universally accepted, such as prescribed medication, folk medical treatments can still be more accessible to specific areas. Foods, and access, are important variables to take into consideration when discussing the treatment of type 2 diabetes, thus making it a focus of my argument. I argue that the conceptualization of diabetes in Southern Trinidad is influenced by folk beliefs of disease and the human body, and that conversely, the treatment measures provided to those who are diagnosed are reflective of North American ideas of prescription medication and treatment (such as diet and exercise). What this does is create a dissonance between what is “good” versus “bad” for the human body, with variables attached to identity at the centre of the conflict such as gender, culture, food, and memories.
