WA State Talent Manager Adam Jones congratulated all of the players selected and their schools and clubs for the effort in preparing for the National Championships. “We feel that the squad will be extremely competitive heading into the National Championships,” Jones said. “The players have had perfect preparation in the WAFL Colts and PSA systems to start the season and it was challenging to narrow the squad down for the next phase of the program. “After the disappointment of missing out on a Championships last year, there is a real sense of excitement around the next two months.” “Marc Webb comes into the program as Head Coach and will be well supported by a number of experienced assistants.” Webb will lead the group for the first time in 2021 after replacing outgoing coach Peter Sumich at the beginning of the season. Beau McDonald, Ben Dyer, Michael Johnson and Ryan Lasscock will be assistant coaches. u Jacob van Rooyen 2 3 COLLECTABLES by Sean Cowan During 2021, the Football Budget will again feature a section on WAFL memorabilia and invites you to write or email if you want more information about the football collectables you have tucked away at home. Still, memorabilia from North Fremantle’s time in the WAFL rarely turns up. The other thing I really love is when Football Budget readers write in and help me to solve a mystery. In last week’s column, I wrote for the first time about a set of eight masonite figures (one for each WAFL club) which probably date to about 1980. They looked like the Life Be In It campaign character, Norm, and depicted football followers in a particularly unflattering light, If you have a query regarding WAFL memorabilia, send photographs and/or details to Sean at [email protected] or Sean Cowan, PO Box 8352, Perth BC, WA 6849. Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} Elise and the Gold Gloop by S.B. Davies S.B. Davies. At the age of six, my daughter was a good reader for her age, but refused to start reading “proper books” with chapters and no pictures. She was bored with “Horrid Henry” and fairies saving a rainbow yet once more and insisted that she was old enough to read proper books, but every one she tried was “too difficult”. It wasn’t she couldn’t read them, it was the concepts and storylines; they were all designed for nine and ten year olds. There was another problem too. She wanted to read about girls, yet all the books about girls we could find were twee and dull. My daughter is happy to read about a princess, along as she is a Ninja Princess; happy to save rainbows, as long as it involves a good sword fight or perhaps a well-planned heist. After a few months of this, my lovely daughter stopped reading. We tried most of the “first chapter books” that people recommend; all met with disinterest. So I asked her exactly what she wanted in a “proper book”. After much though, she wrote down: “Dragons, princess, zombies, vampires, ghosts, but not spiders and it should be funny and scary and have fighting in it.” We couldn’t find such a book with concepts and vocabulary suitable for a six year old – so I wrote one. I had written novels before, but not a children’s book, so I had help from my daughter to find the right level.

OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF THE WAFL $3.00 ROUND 1 JULY 18, 2020 like no other When the ball is bounced across various WAFL venues on Saturday, it will be exactly 124 days since football in this state was turned on its head by the Coronavirus pandemic. Players have had their longest ever preseasons, coaches have tried to plan for the unplannable and backroom staff were presented with challenges no-one could have seen coming. Finally, footy is back. It really will be a season like no other in 2020; nine-rounds, 16-minute quarters, no West Coast Eagles or AFL-listed players, a top-four and three weeks of finals. The Optus WAFL has never looked like it will on Saturday, July 18, but the elements of the game we love will still be apparent. We look forward to seeing Subiaco attempt the elusive three-peat.
