They make for an interesting mix and I am sure that the voting will be keenly contested. • 17 year old Nathan Brill won the Victorian U18 10km Road Walk at Middle Park on Saturday in a PB time of 42:33. This time actually bettered Troy Sundstrom's Australian U18 Road Walk Record. Alas, we did not know in advance that Nathan was intending to have a go and hence did not have the required 3 watches in place. However, with 5 months to go in the calendar year, he is sure to have plenty more opportunities and it is only a matter of time now unti he gets his name in the books for this record. • 40 year old Kelly Ruddick won the VRWC Open Women's 10km roadwalk championship on Saturday in a PB time of 46:15, bettering her own pending W40 World Masters record by some 18 seconds. -

Heather, regarded by many as Australia's greatest ever Masters walker. Heather has been winning World Masters Championships and setting World Masters records since her days in the W35 division and now, in the W65 division, she shows no signs of slowing. On Saturday, she stormed through our 1.5km walk at Middle Park in a very swift 8:07, setting a new club record and showing many of our younger walkers how it is done. For a full review of Heather's wonderful career, check out http://www.vrwc.org.au/tim-archive/articles/wv-heather-carr.pdf. Her performances at the various World Veterans championships are amazing - a total of 27 individual gold and 7 individual silver medals and medals in each of her 17 appearances at the World Masters Championships. 1987 Melbourne, Australia Silver (5000m), Gold (10 km) and Gold (Teams) 1989 Eugene, USA Golds in both walks 1991 Turku, Finland Silvers in both walks 1993 Miyazaki, Japan Golds in both walks and in the Teams 1995 Buffalo, USA Golds in both walks and in the Teams 1997 Durban, South Africa Golds in both walks and in the Teams 1999 Newcastle, England Injured. -

Gonzales has the official world record, on a track at J:41:J8. Weigel, who had beaten Gonzales earlier in the year by nearly J minutes, won the World Championship last year and was ranked first in the wm-ld. Dl today's race, he was accompanied by Hartwig Gauder and Dietmar Miesch through JO Km, but then blew the race open with a stunning display of speed, his final '20 Km taking just 1:26:20. Actually, his sprint appeared to start at 20 Km, which was passed in a pedestrian 1:28:43? He then did 21:55 and 21:33 for the next two 5's (4J:28 for 10 Km), Although Gauder and Meisch stayed with him through that, they couldn't survive any longer and dropped away the rest 8{ the way. Nonetheless, Gauder missed the former best by only 4 secon and Meisch was only a couple of minutes behind him. A week later, Weigel destroyed Gauder in a 20 Km as he exploded 1:19:56 .
