Among the 14 entered for the one mile Blame Stakes, eight have not raced in at least 60 days. Such is the case for the Florida-bred duo set for the Blame as Extrordinary Jerry will race for the first time since Sept. 28 and Discreet Lover makes his first start since April of 2019. While the pandemic is not responsible for their entire time away from the races, it is likely that the coronavirus extended their layoffs. Extrordinary Jerry was last seen winning the $150,000 Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owner’s Association Florida Sire Stakes Wildcat Heir at one mile by more than 10 lengths at Gulfstream Park. In fact, Extrodinary Jerry was on a bit of a roll back then as he had also won a first level allowance race at a mile- and-one-eighth by seven lengths at Saratoga in his previous start on Aug. 25. Trained by Dermot Magner for Nice Guys Stable, Extrordinary Jerry has won four of 17 career starts with earnings of $260,106. He is by Overdriven out of Dismissal, by Successful Appeal and was bred in Florida by Darsan Inc. Magner has given the riding chores on Extrordinary Jerry to Julien Leparoux and they have drawn post nine. Discreet Lover makes his first start in more than a year with his last race coming when last of 10 in the Grade 2 Charles Town Classic won by Runnin’toluvya on April 20, 2019 with fellow Blame entrant Diamond Kind second. Prior to that, he had an equally dull performance in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic won by Accelerate at Churchill Downs in November of 2018. However, the bay son of Repent had his best career perform- ance when winning the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park three races back in September of 2018. Discreet Lover is trained by Uriah St. Lewis for Trin-Brook Stable Inc., is out of Discreet Chat, by Discreet Cat and he has won seven of 46 career starts while earning $1,449,685. He was bred in Florida by Woodford Thoroughbreds. Joe Bisono is set to ride Discreet Lover from post 12. Diamond King, who has not started since March 7 at Aqueduct when he won the one mile, $126,000 Stymie Stakes by a length- and-a-quarter over likely Blame foe American Anthem in second, appears to be among the top contenders in the Blame.
