The reigning God is Sri Ranganatha (the reclining form of Lord Vishnu) with Goddess Ranganayaki (Lakshmi Devi). The Uthra Phalguni nakshtram (star) in the month of Panguni (Phalguna) is the birthday of Goddess Ranganayaki. The wedding of Lord Ranganatha and Ranganayaki Thaayaar (the mother Goddess) is also celebrated on that day. This is the only day in the year when Lord Ranganatha and Ranganayaki Thaayaar are seen together. When Srimad Ramanujacharya, the great Acharya of Srivaishnavas and the proponent of Visishtadwaita, visited the Srirangam temple on that special day, he was greatly moved by the majestic sight of the Divya Dampati (divine couple). He poured his heart out and recited the Sharanagati Gadyam (his surrender to the Lord) and the Sri Ranga Gadyam (in praise of the Lord). As a result of this, the Acharya was blessed with a beautiful vision of Sri Vaikuntam which he has brilliantly described in the Sri Vaikunta Gadyam. The Gadya Trayams – Sharanagati Gadyam, Sri Ranga Gadyam and Vaikunta Gadyam - are recited on every Panguni Uthram after the Kalyana utsavam (wedding). Temples within Chennai City 1 As the famous Tamil poetess AUVAYYAR says in Her Legendary presentation of cluster of hymns “Kovil illatha ooril kudi irukkathe” Please don’t reside in a place where there is no temple. The Statement of our forefathers is sacrosanct because the temple indicates that the community is graced by the presence of God and that its Citizens form a moral community. A Community identifies and is identified by others with its temples. It has been our ancient endavour to lead a pious life with full dedication to the services of the Lord. Sri Paramacharya of Kanchi Mutt has repeatedly called devotees and stressed the importance of taking care of old temples - which requires enormous power of men and money - instead of constructing new temples in cities. As you may be aware, there are thousands of temples in dilapidated condition and requires constant maintenance work to be undertaken. There are many shiva lingas of ancient temples found under trees and also while digging. In ancient times, these lingas were 'Moolavars' of temples built by several kings. After conquests and devastations by foreign invaders, Indian temples were destructed and the sacred deities were thrown away and many were broken. The left out deities are found later. Of them, some are unidentified. Those who attempt to construct temples for gods are freed from the sins of a thousand births. Those who think of building a temple in their minds are freed from the sins of a hundred births. Those who contribute to the cause of a temple are bestowed with divine virtues and blessings.

3 3 SAPTHAGIRI 3 FLOAT FESTIVAL AT TIRUMALA The Annual Float Festival at Tirumala is being performed in the Telugu month of Phalguna for five days. It begins on the day of Ekadashi and concludes with Pournima day. The deities are taken around in all specially decorated float on the sacred waters of Swami Pushkarini. On the first (Ekadashi) day, float is performed to Lord Sri Rama, Maa Sita along with Lord Lakshmana and Lord Hanuman. On the second (Dwadasi) day, the silver idol of Lord Krishna and Maa Rukmini are brought for a celestial ride. On the remaining three (Trayodasi, Chaturdasi & Pournima) days Lord Malayappa Swami with His Consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi is taken out to perform the float festival. On all the five days the float is being decorated elegantly with flowers and with good colourful lights. This year, float festival will be performed from 16.03.2019 to 20.03.2019. SURA Y PUJA AT SRI VEDANARAYANA SWAMI TEMPLE, NAGULAPURAM Nagulapuram is about 65 kms. South east of Tirupati. The sacred temple dedicated to Lord Veda Narayanaswami is situated here. The Sanctum Sanctorum houses an image of the ‘Matsyavatara’ form of Lord Vishnu accompanied by Sridevi and Bhudevi on either side. Sun worship is an important aspect at this temple. Every year in the month of March the rays of the Sun passes through the Gopuram entrance for three days and fall on the idol in the Sanctum and this is considered as an act of adoration by the Sun.
