MOUNTING OPTIONS Clear Photopolymer Stamps Our clear stamps are made in the USA from the highest quality photopolymer available. These stamps resist yellowing. Clear stamps perform just as well as red rubber stamps but remember that they are made from a very different material. They are softer than red rubber so when you stamp with them, use a lighter touch for best results. When they are new, sometimes certain inks “bead” on them creating an image that looks blotchy. We’ve found that if you stamp and clean them a few times this “breaks them in” and from that point forward they accept ink well and should give a crisp and clean impression. Traditional Wood Stamps We manufacture our red rubber stamps ourselves at our warehouse in Virginia. All of our stamps are deeply etched and guaranteed to give a crisp, clear impression. They are mounted on the highest-quality hard maple mounts with clear label indexing Cling Stamps Every individual stamp in this catalog is available both wood mounted and as red rubber cling individual stamps. Our individual cling stamps are packaged for wholesale customers in hang bags with a printed index image inside (pictured on right). Please be sure to add “-CLG” to your orders to indicate that you prefer cling stamps instead of wood mounted. CC337, C13742 F20613, C13737 © 2018 Impression Obsession, Inc. • Cleveland POPS Brings in the New Year with Melinda Doolittle at Severance Hall (Dec
Cleveland POPS brings in the New Year with Melinda Doolittle at Severance Hall (Dec. 31) by Mario Buchanan, Special to ClevelandClassical.com On December 31 the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, under the direction of Carl Topilow, performed their annual New Year’s Eve concert at Severance Hall. Above the partygoers’ heads in the Grand Foyer were two nets filled with blue and white balloons waiting to welcome the new year, and attendees were required to grab a party horn from the table for the concert. In the auditorium, “2017” was spelled out with balloons above the stage. Clearly, this was going to be a night to remember. As Topilow came on stage, the lights dimmed and all that could be seen were stand lights and the first three digits of ‘2017’ lit up. The concert started with two famous “crowd-warming” tunes: the opening of Richard Strauss’ Thus Sprach Zarathustra, which segued into “O Fortuna” from Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana — a rather interesting way to start the evening. Then Melinda Doolittle, the guest vocalist for the occasion, greeted the audience, wearing a gorgeous, elegant dress and immediately stunning the crowd with her beautiful, wide-ranging voice. By her own admission, Doolittle was tone deaf as a child, but determined to prove herself, she eventually earned a bachelor’s in music. She became famous while competing on American Idol, where Simon Cowell called her his “personal favorite.” Since then, Doolittle has performed all over the nation. The vocalist described her song selections as being like her personality: “romance and sass.” She sang some old, romantic classics, including Don’t Get Around Much Anymore, Home from “The Wiz”, and Over the Rainbow.

  • WOLF 359 "BRAVE NEW WORLD" by Gabriel Urbina Story By: Sarah Shachat & Gabriel Urbina
WOLF 359 "BRAVE NEW WORLD" by Gabriel Urbina Story by: Sarah Shachat & Gabriel Urbina Writer's Note: This episode takes place starting on Day 1220 of the Hephaestus Mission. FADE IN: On HERA. Speaking directly to us. HERA So here's a story. Once upon a time, there lived a broken little girl. She was born with clouded eyes, and a weak heart, not destined to beat through an entire lifetime. But instead of being wretched or afraid, the little girl decided to be clever. She got very, very good at fixing things. First she fixed toys, and clocks, and old machines that no one thought would ever run again. Then, she fixed bigger things. She fixed the cold and drafty orphanage where she grew up; when she went to school, she fixed equations to make them more useful; everything around her, she made better... and sharper... and stronger. She had no friends, of course, except for the ones she made. The little girl had a talent for making dolls - beautiful, wonderful mechanical dolls - and she thought they were better friends than anyone in the world. They could be whatever she wanted them to be - and as real as she wanted them to be - and they never left her behind... and they never talked back... and they were never afraid of her. Except when she wanted them to be. But if there was one thing the girl never felt like she could fix, it was herself. Until... one day a strange thing happened. The broken girl met an old man - older than anyone she had ever met, but still tricky and clever, almost as clever as the girl.

Detection of Emerging Words in Portuguese Tweets Afonso Pinto ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, Portugal http://www.iscte-iul.pt [email protected] Helena Moniz CLUL/FLUL, Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal INESC-ID, Lisboa, Portugal UNBABEL, Lisboa, Portugal http://www.inesc-id.pt [email protected] Fernando Batista ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, Portugal INESC-ID, Lisboa, Portugal http://www.inesc-id.pt [email protected] Abstract This paper tackles the problem of detecting emerging words on a language, based on social networks content. It proposes an approach for detecting new words on Twitter, and reports the achieved results for a collection of 8 million Portuguese tweets. This study uses geolocated tweets, collected between January 2018 and June 2019, and written in the Portuguese territory. The first six months of the data were used to define an initial vocabulary on known words, and the following 12 months were used for identifying new words, thus testing our approach. The set of resulting words were manually analyzed, revealing a number of distinct events, and suggesting that Twitter may be a valuable resource for researching neology, and the dynamics of a language. 2012 ACM Subject Classification Computing methodologies → Natural language processing Keywords and phrases Emerging words, Twitter, Portuguese language Digital Object Identifier 10.4230/OASIcs.SLATE.2020.3 Funding This work was supported by national funds through FCT, Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, under project UIDB/50021/2020. 1 Introduction Social networks are basically a way/facilitator for people to communicate and exchange ideas among themselves, so it is natural that they play an important role in the evolution of writing, reading, and take part in the introduction of new words and expressions.

  • Writing the Empire Windrush (Critical Thesis) and Chan (Poetry Collection) Hannah Lowe
Writing the Empire Windrush (critical thesis) and Chan (poetry collection) Hannah Lowe Thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy School of English Literature, Languages and Linguistics March 2016 i ii Abstract This doctorate is comprised of a critical thesis (30%) and a creative submission of poetry (70%). The critical thesis examines representations of the arrival of the Empire Windrush at Tilbury on 22 June 1948, interrogating how it became symbolic shorthand for the beginnings of the post-war Caribbean diaspora to Britain, with a central place in the national historical imagination. Critics argue that the representation of the Windrush has undergone a dramatic transformation in its 65- year history, from its deployment in media discourses highlighting the problems of immigration, to its reclamation as a positive symbol of Black Britain at the turn of the century. The 1998 commemorations of the fiftieth anniversary were instrumental in this re-appropriation. This thesis examines depictions of the Windrush from the moment of its arrival to the present day, to argue that the ongoing centrality of the Windrush in the story of the Caribbean–British diaspora has obscured a longer, richer history of black presence in Britain while overlooking the imperial history which prompted the diasporic movements of Caribbean people to the imperial centre. The critical work of Chapters One and Two provides the context for my poetry collection Chan, which is discussed in Chapter Three. The Ormonde sequence of Chan responds to my interrogation of the Windrush creatively, by reconstructing the 1947 voyage of its predecessor, the Ormonde. The remaining sections are thematically linked by their engagement with suppressed or unknown histories, writing from personal and public archives and their exploration of migration, diaspora and mixed-race identities.
