2 Tower Barn Home Farm Barns | Alvescot | OX18 2PU 2 TOWER BARN A stunning stone barn conversion with great space and features throughout. Upon entering, the entrance hall allows for access to the fitted kitchen, cloakroom and the large living area. The 30ft living room is a great space for entertaining and features an inglenook fireplace, storage with oak doors, and a number of exposed original timber beams. The living room leads to the garden, conservatory and also has access to the kitchen. The kitchen benefits from large windows overlooking the garden and access to a separate utility room with sinks. Seller Insight This lovely stone-built barn conversion, which features a distinctive three-storey tower, enjoys a tucked-away location on the edge of the delightful village of Alvescot. “I bought the house eleven years ago, and for me it was the tower that proved to be one of the biggest attractions. It was originally built as a pigeonniere and would have provided a steady supply of meat and eggs for those living in what was once quite an isolated location, however it’s now just a really impressive feature of the house. I first noticed an advert for the property on the Internet, saw a picture of the tower and that was it, I was sold even before I came to view it.” “The barn itself is a lovely old building that was constructed at the beginning of the 19th century and as one might expect, it began life as an agricultural building. It, along with the six neighbouring barns, was converted into a house thirty-five years ago, and I must say it was done very sympathetically and to a really good standard. There are some lovely features, such as the inglenook fireplace and lots of exposed beams, and over time I’ve made some changes that I feel have enhanced the look and feel of the place even further. I’ve had all of the windows replaced with double glazed units, a new kitchen was installed in 2011 – which puts a modern twist on the farmhouse style – and I had solid oak flooring installed both upstairs and down. It’s a very spacious house with a warm and welcoming feel, and I’ve been extremely happy here.” “The property also benefits from having a sizable garden, which over the years I’ve developed into a more wildlife-friendly space,” continues the owner. “When I came here it was a real blank canvass that consisted of nothing more than a big lawn and bushes, so I’ve planted an array of fruit trees, put in a pretty pond and built a patio where I can sit and watch the huge variety of songbirds that come to visit. The whole space is surrounded by high stone walls, so it’s incredibly private, and for me it’s been a real haven of peace and tranquillity.” “My favourite room would probably be the living room,” says the owner. “It has generous proportions, nice features such as the inglenook and beams, and it’s a quiet place where I can sit and play the organ.” “Although I have neighbours, within the house and the garden there’s a really nice feeling of seclusion,” says the owner. “I can look out and see virtually nothing but fields, and when I’m sitting in the garden the only sound is that of birdsong, but I’m by no means isolated here. There’s a pub that does really nice food just down the road; Carterton, which is a thriving town, is just a short car journey away and I can be in the centre of Oxford in around half an hour, so everything’s within easy reach.” “The garden has been transformed into a real haven for wildlife, however, if the new owners wanted to come in and open up the space, that would be perfectly possible, and it’s a lovely big space,” says the owner. “In actual fact, I’d say that there’s more than enough room for a swimming pool. I contemplated putting one in, but simply never got around to.” “I’ll definitely miss the character of the house, but if you were to ask me what I’ll miss most of all when I leave, it will probably be the garden and the setting,” says the owner. “It’s totally idyllic here and the huge variety of birds and butterflies that visit the garden have provided me with endless entertainment.”* * These comments are the personal views of the current owner and are included as an insight into life at the property.
