The Protocols of the Elders of Zion: a Hoax to Hate Introduction
THE ANTI-DEFAMATION LEAGUE PRESENTS A SPECIAL EXHIBIT OF A GRAPHIC HISTORY OF THE PROTOCOLS OF THE ELDERS OF ZION WILL EISNER, the celebrated “father of the graphic novel,” was deeply concerned about the resilience of anti-Semitism and the persistence of the conspiracy theory that Jews have a plan to control the world, as set down in The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Applying his talent and creativity to further expose the notorious anti-Semitic treatise as a forgery, Mr. Eisner produced The Plot in 2003, with a goal toward educating all, but especially younger generations. A SPECIAL EXHIBIT PRESENTED BY THE ANTI-DEFAMATION LEAGUE ADL is proud to present a special traveling exhibit telling the story of the infamous forgery, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, that has been used to justify anti-Semitism up to and including today. In 2005, Will Eisner’s graphic novel, The Plot: The Secret Story of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion was published, exposing the history of The Protocols and raising public awareness of anti-Semitism. Mr. Eisner, who died in 2005, did not live to see this highly effective exhibit, but his commitment and spirit shine through every panel of his work on display. This project made possible through the support of the Will Eisner Estate and W.W. Norton & Company Inc. The Protocols of the Elders of Zion: A Hoax to Hate Introduction It is a classic in the literature of hate. Believed by many to be the secret minutes of a Jewish council called together in the last years of the 19th century, it has been used by anti-Semites as proof that Jews are plotting to take over the world. -
Blair and Israel
This is a chapter in my 2002 The Rise of New Labour, which is still available for virtually nothing on-line from Amazon and Abebooks. It originally appeared in Lobster 43 and seems worth reposting in the context of the Al Jazeera revelations about Israeli operations in British politics.1 Blair and Israel Robin Ramsay In January 1994, three months before John Smith’s death, the then shadow Home Secretary Tony Blair, with wife Cherie Booth, went on a trip to Israel at the Israeli government’s expense - a trip, incidentally, neither the Sopel nor Rentoul biographies of Blair mentioned.2 Blair had always been sympathetic to Israel, had shared chambers with Board of Deputies of British Jews President Eldred Tabachnik,3 and had joined the Labour Friends of Israel on becoming an MP. Two months after returning from Israel, Tony Blair was introduced to Michael Levy at a dinner party by Gideon Meir, the number two in the Israeli embassy in London.4Levy was a retired businessman who had made his money creating and then selling a successful record company and had become a major fund-raiser for Jewish charities. Levy was ‘dazzled by Blair’s drive and religious commitment’ and the two men became friends.5 A month later the leader of the Labour Party, John Smith, died, and Blair won the leadership election contest with Gordon Brown – in some accounts with financial 1 See for example <http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2017/01/israels- parliamentary-plot-uk-politicians-170107220710691.html>. 2 See the profile of Michael Levy in the Daily Express 26 June 2000. -

It seeks to explain the reasons for the sudden, rapid expansion of Black Hundred organizations in 1905, as well as the causes of their decline, which began just two years after their appearance. It further attempts to elucidate the complex relationship between the Black Hundred and Russian authorities, including the central government and local officials. The problem is approached by offering two distinct perspectives on the Black Hundred. First, a broad overview of the movement is presented. The focus here is on the headquarter branches of Black Hundred organizations in St. Petersburg, but these chapters also look at the activities of many different provincial branches, relating trends in the provinces to events in the center in order to draw conclusions about the nature of the overall movement. -
Western Europe
Western Europe Great Britain National Affairs HE YEAR BEGAN BADLY FOR THE Labor government when Prime Minister Tony Blair's personal poll rating briefly fell from 62 to 49 percent, largely due to popular dissatisfaction with problems in the National Health Service, in- tensified by a flu epidemic. Labor's image deteriorated further when the party was unable to prevent the election of Ken Livingstone, a maverick independent left- wing MP, as the first directly elected mayor of London. Blair's warning that Liv- ingstone's election would be "ruinous" for London did not prevent the decisive defeat of Labor's official candidate for the mayoralty. This was followed by Labor defeats in the local council elections, and in June a keynote speech by Premier Blair at a conference of the Women's Institute movement was met by a "slow handclapping." The government recovered some of its poise in July when it an- nounced a program of public investment in transport, education, and the health service. This expenditure, it was proclaimed, was made possible by the govern- ment's prudent handling of the economy. In this way the government sought to make good what many critics considered to be its initial mistake in retaining the spending targets of the last Conservative government. In the meantime, the Conservative opposition, led by William Hague, turned to the right, campaigning against "bogus asylum seekers," taking a hardline pol- icy in Europe, and opposing the single EU currency. The Tories received a real boost in September when farmers and haulers blockaded a number of oil re- fineries in a peaceful protest of the high price of gasoline. -

Working Paper: May 2021 The Leicester Mercury: Race on the Front Page. A working paper collating all references to race and immigration on the front page of the Leicester Mercury from January 1967 to December 1979. This period saw rapid immigration of East Africa Asians to Leicester and the rise and fall of the National Front in the City. Search Terms; Immigration, Racism, National Front, Kenyan Asians; Ugandan Asians; Leicester Mercury; AIMS Anti-Immigration Society; Unity Against Racialism. For further details contact. Dr. Liam McCarthy, Honorary Fellow, HYPIR, University of Leicester. Email: [email protected] Liam McCarthy, HYPIR, University of Leicester. May 2021 Leicester Mercury: Race on the front page, 1967-1979. This working paper is based on research into the change in front page coverage of the Leicester Mercury on immigration, race and ethnic minority subjects between 1967 and 1979. This period was key in the history of race relations in the Leicester highlighted by increasing immigration to Leicester from Kenya in the late 1960s, Uganda in the 1970s and the rise and fall of the anti-immigration National Front as a sustainable electoral force in the city by 1980. The coverage of these issues by the Leicester Mercury during this period has been described in the existing literature on immigration to Leicester as racist.1 This working paper challenges this view and asks to what extent was the Leicester Mercury leading the debate around immigration or following events as any responsible local newspaper should do? The answer lies somewhere in between but a change in the coverage of the issues in the Leicester Mercury is discernible from the mid 1970s.
