Photo by: Joyce Brooks - Black Tie International My Life At Grey Gardens 13 Months and Beyond A True and Factual Book *Lois Wright, writer, artist, 19 year local TV host and close friend for decades of the Bouvier Beales lived at "Grey Gardens" for several years in the mid seventies and was there while the Maysles Brothers filmed their documentary over six weeks. She is in the film's birthday party scene. Lois was also there in the late 70's with "Little Edie" and "Big Edie" died. Lois states: 'Big Edie' and 'Little Edie' have been protectively watching over everything from the loving restoration of the Grey Gardens estate, to my memoir 'My Life at Grey Gardens' to the Grey Gardens' off Broadway musical and its moving to Broadway, October 2006, to the new screenplay and film, written and directed by Michael Sucsy, starring Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore. ***"Grey Grdens" the musical won 3 Tonys at the 2007 Tony Awards. Reprinted from http://www.glbtq.com The works of award-winning playwright, screenwriter, and librettist Doug Wright often focus on the unconventional lives of society's outsiders. Among these are the iconoclastic artist Marcel Duchamp in Interrogating the Nude; the Marquis de Sade in Quills; Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, an East Berlin transvestite who survived persecution by both the Nazi and Communist regimes, in the Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize- winning I Am My Own Wife; and "Big Edie" and "Little Edie" Bouvier Beale, two eccentric American aristocrats who ended up living in squalor, sharing a once-elegant mansion, in the musical Grey Gardens, based on the cult classic documentary film of the same name. Wright also helped adapt the animated Disney film The Little Mermaid into a Broadway musical. Despite this diversity in subjects, Wright's body of work is unified, as Jeffrey Schneider notes in his appreciation of the writer, "by its devotion to witty, nuanced language as well as its untiring exploration of the macabre." Wright's plays are also infused with passages of surprisingly mordant humor as well as fierce anger, provoked perhaps by "growing up gay in the Bible Belt," as he has a character named "Doug Wright" explain onstage in his play I Am My Own Wife. Christine Ebersole
CHRISTINE EBERSOLE Christine grew up in Winnetka, Illinois, where she discovered her passion for acting in high school. Upon graduation, Christine attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois, before moving to New York to study acting for another two years at the famed American Academy of Dramatic Arts. In 1976, she appeared in her first Broadway play, Angel Street. She went on to star in such Broadway hits as I Love My Wife with Joanna Gleason and James Naughton; Hal Prince’s On the 20th Century with Kevin Kline and comic legend Imogene Coca and put her indelible imprint on the role of Ado Annie, the girl who “Cain’t Say No,” in Agnes de Mille’s revival of Oklahoma! She starred Camelot opposite Richard Burton and in Stephen Sondheim’s non-musical mystery, Getting Away With Murder, as well as The Paper Mill Playhouse’s production of “Paper Moon.” Off-Broadway, she starred in a critically acclaimed production of Chekhov’s Three Sisters with Dianne Wiest and Sam Waterson. At a time when a single critic’s bad review could close a show, that was exactly what befell the ill-fated Harrigan n’ Hart, which closed after three days and propelled Christine to Hollywood to pursue her burgeoning film and television career full-time. Christine’s feature film credits include the Academy Award-winning Best Picture of 1984, Amadeus, Tootsie, Thief of Hearts, Bill Cosby’s Ghost Dad, Dead Again with Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson, Folks! with Tom Selleck and Don Ameche, My Girl 2, Richie Rich with Macauley Culkin, Black Sheep with Chris Farley and David Spade, the romantic comedy ‘Til There Was You with Jeanne Tripplehorn and Dylan McDermott, and Disney’s My Favorite Martian, opposite Jeff Daniels and Christopher Lloyd.
