– Girls Division – YESHIVA OF GREATER WASHINGTON – TIFERES GEDALIAH – Girls Division – PASSION FOR LEARNING PREPARATION FOR LIFE OUR MISSION AT THE YESHIVA OF GREATER WASHINGTON–TIFERES GEDALIAH IS TO PLANT TORAH AS A LIFELONG GUIDE WITHIN EACH STUDENT AND TO PROVIDE THE SKILLS TO SUCCEED PERSONALLY, PROFESSIONALLY, AND COMMUNALLY. PASSION FOR LEARNING PREPARATION FOR LIFE INDIVIDUALIZED & PERSONAL ATTENTION The Yeshiva of Greater Washington–Tiferes Gedaliah prides itself on teaching the “whole child” as a crucial component of its mission to play an integral part in building the future of Klal Yisroel. Rebbeim and teachers build lifetime ties by connect- ing with students on a personal level, while small classes enable the staff to respond to the individual needs of our students. The result is a well-rounded, well-educated graduate who is equipped and ready to make her contribution to the greater whole in both the religious and secular world. CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES YGW offers a wide array of co- curricular activities to enhance an already outstanding education. The stu- dents learn leadership skills, team building, communal and personal respon- sibility, and have fun in the process. The talmidos go on shabbatons, do chesed throughout our community, enjoy the arts, sports, and much, much more. The Annual Production is a school-wide enterprise involving dance, gymnastics, drama and song, scripted by our students and presented on a professional stage. YGW has a monthly Rosh Chodesh awards ceremony for academic and middos achievement. Co-curricular clubs such as a newspaper, fine arts, pilates, photography, dance and band are offered. Additionally, YGW hosts “Mother-Daughter” special programs open to the women of the community. All of these programs tap into the individual strengths of our students and al- low them to excel in other areas outside the classroom. STRONG DUAL CURRICULUM YGW boasts graduates who are accepted to the best yeshivos and universities. A YGW graduate succeeds at mastering a curriculum that stresses excellence in both Judaic and General Studies disciplines. Our shiurim are equal to those in many yeshivos through- out the country, with emphasis on independent learning and thinking and understanding the texts with meforshim. Our students are sought after by ye- shivos throughout Eretz Yisroel. Our General Studies program boasts an aver- age SAT score that is more than 200 points higher than the national average. College-level courses are taught and about 90% of Yeshiva students taking AP exams pass them with a score of 3 or above. GROWTH AND CONSISTENCY The Yeshiva of Greater Wash- ington, which started over 50 years ago as a fledging institution with fewer than a dozen students, today boasts a continually growing student body in all three of its divisions. We have talmidim all over the world with a strong allegiance to YGW who serve their communities as Rabbonim, Roshei HaYes- hiva, Askonim, doctors, lawyers and in many other capacities. CHESSED PROGRAM Our talmidos practice what they learn! Whether helping those less fortunate, leading Shabbos groups, cooking for Bikkur Cholim or visiting the elderly, students are willing and encouraged to help. Yeshiva of Greater Washington is a community school that relates to our community with respect and active concern for its needs. We do not only teach, we reach; in this way our students are taught responsibility to each other, their families, and the community at large. PHILOSOPHY & OBJECTIVES YGW’s Vision Statements: l YGW will emphasize the primacy of Torah while providing a high-quality general studies education. l YGW will develop each student’s strengths through a close student/teacher relationship in order to mold self-motivated, resourceful, life-long learners with character who can face challenges and maintain success throughout life. l YGW will serve as a center of Torah learning for the Greater Washington Jewish Community. The Beliefs Behind our Program: The program of the YGW is directed toward the development of individuals whose lives will be enriched by a commitment to the learning and observance of Torah and pursuit of personal growth that prepares one for life as a Bas Yisroel. Excellence in intellectual and ethical pursuits is a common goal shared by the adults and young people involved in the school. Standing behind the program are our beliefs that: l Education is a lifelong process that begins with being a mentsch. As Chazal, our Sages, say: “Derech eretz kadma l’Torah” – “Proper conduct is prerequisite to Torah.” l Each student has unique capabilities and needs a learning environment in which she can develop those capabilities to the fullest. l The learning environment most conducive to this goal is one in which the worth and individuality of each student is respected. l Such a supportive environment is the optimum climate to produce confident, independent, questioning students able to meet their own problems and make positive contributions to society l The curriculum must be demanding and designed to challenge each student towards higher achievement. The goal is not to shield the student from frustration, but to teach her how to handle it constructively in order to succeed. YGW HISTORY & OUR ROSH HAYESHIVA SAMPLE DAILY SCHEDULE YGW boasts a dual curriculum that provides its students with demanding Limudei Kodesh and general studies college preparatory programming to equip them to meet the challenges they will face in all areas of their lives as Torah Jews. At the same time YGW understands its students have individual needs. Whether it is a study hall, tutorials or enrichment for the more gifted, YGW will arrange a schedule that best suits its talmidos. Today, YGW graduates attend the finest seminaries and universities and are making a positive impact on communities around the globe . • Mattos Chassidus on the Massei ~ Mattos Chassidus on the Parsha +
LIGHTS OF OUR RIGHTEOUS TZADDIKIM בעזרת ה ' יתבר A Tzaddik, or righteous person , makes everyone else appear righteous before Hashem by advocating for them and finding their merits. Kedushas Levi, Parshas Noach (Bereishis 7:1) MATTOS ~ MASSEI _ CHASSIDUS ON THE PARSHA + Dvar Torah – Mattos Keep Your Word The Torah states (30:3), “If a man takes a vow or swears an oath to G -d to establish a prohibition upon himself, he shall not violate his word; he shall fulfill whatever comes out of his mouth.” In relation to this passuk , the Midrash quotes from Tehillim (144:4), “Our days are like a fleeting shadow.” What is the connection? This can be explained, says Rav Levi Yitzchok, according to a Gemara ( Nedarim 10b), which states, “It is forbidden to say, ‘ Lashem korban , for G-d − an offering.’ Instead a person must say, ‘ Korban Lashem , an offering for G -d.’ Why? Because he may die before he says the word korban , and then he will have said the holy Name in vain.” In this light, we can understand the Midrash. The Torah states that a person makes “a vow to G-d.” This i s the exact language that must be used, mentioning the vow first. Why? Because “our days are like a fleeting shadow,” and there is always the possibility that he may die before he finishes his vow and he will have uttered the Name in vain. n Story The wood chopper had come to Ryczywohl from the nearby village in which he lived, hoping to find some kind of employment.

At the advice of a friend, he poured out his tale of woe to a certain great Rav , and the Rav offered to write him a letter. He had not dared ask for such a great privilege, even though the Rav had known him for years. But fortune smiled on him, and the Rav offered on his own. With hope in his heart and a bounce in his step, the poor man put the letter into his satchel and set off to raise the money he need ed. Even with the letter, it was a struggle. The poor man did manage to get a little more than he would have without the letter, but the amounts were not great.
