In April, 2016, Hawaii enacted a law requiring 100% tobacco- and e-cigarette-free grounds of Hawaii Health Systems Corporation state health facility properties. In addition, 40 municipalities have enacted laws specifically requiring 100% smokefree hospital campuses. Please note: this is a partial list. If you know of smokefree hospital campus laws that are currently not listed, please contact ANR at [email protected] or (510) 841-3032 with that information. INDIVIDUAL POLICIES – HOSPITAL GROUNDS Hospitals, clinics, and psychiatric facilities are further promoting the health and safety of their communities by voluntarily adopting 100% smokefree grounds policies to protect employees, patients, and visitors from secondhand smoke exposure. This is a partial list. If you know of medical or healthcare facilities that have 100% smokefree grounds and are currently not listed, please contact ANR at [email protected] or (510) 841-3032 with that information. In addition, American Indian and Alaska Native sovereign tribal policies are not reflected on this list. These policies have been adopted but are not necessarily yet in effect. Please contact the hospital itself to verify the status of its policy. + = Smokefree policy extends to all medical facilities owned and operated by the health system. 2 The following 4 national hospitals, clinics, insurers, and health service companies have adopted 100% smokefree grounds policies nationwide which extend to all their respective facilities, campuses, and office buildings. At least 3,940 local and/or state/territory/commonwealth hospitals, healthcare systems, and clinics have adopted 100% smokefree campus grounds policies that protect all employees, visitors, and patients from secondhand smoke exposure within their campuses – including but not limited to facility buildings, outdoor areas, and parking lots. While it has become relatively common for hospitals and health facilities to have policies requiring that all buildings be smokefree indoors, this list only includes hospitals and health facilities with entirely smokefree campuses.
