THE VIESSMANN MAGAZINE 2 | 2017 1 2 The Centenary Sculpture On the occasion of the Centenary Festival, the Viessmann Centenary Sculpture by artist Daniel Wolff was unveiled in front of the main entrance to company headquarters in Allendorf. Before work on the sculpture began, employees were asked to collect and hand in everyday items made of orange plastic. The cut through the body of the pedestal transformed these everyday items buried in concrete into abstract lines and symbols, enabling the observer to see a new dimension to the objects. The aluminum casting on the pedestal represents the formative power that arises from the interplay of heat and cold. Hot metal was allowed to solidify in a cold medium – an explosive tech- nique which, however, was mitigated by binding the water in granulated gel pellets. The pellets were doused with nearly two metric tons of liquid aluminum heated to 900 degrees Celsius, which produced an amorphous form that was finally given a coat of Vitorange after elaborate milling operations. You will find a close-up of the aluminum casting on the inside back cover. Daniel Wolff, in Hanover in 1980, studied art in Kassel and Braunschweig. His exhibition, “Verlorene Form” (“Lost Form”) was last shown at Kunstverein Hamburg.
