Helene Nepomuceno Statement of Interest My involvement in the AMA has taught me that shaping the experiences of the future of medicine— residents, fellows, and students – is among the most impactful work we can do. In residency, my focus has been to strengthen the RFS on a structural level through my involvement in the Ad-Hoc Committee for Internal Operating Procedures Renewal and chairing the Committee on Long Range Planning. Over the past year, these committees produced a revision of our IOPs and a 3-year strategic plan that have been adopted by the section. While chairing the Governing Council of the Medical Student Section, I gained an intimate understanding of AMA Section operations. These experiences have given me the opportunity to learn about our section and its needs. As Chair, I will work tirelessly over the next two years to strengthen our section and best represent the interests of residents and fellows. I will start by developing on a tradition of robust internal policy and priorities that we bring to the AMA, holding ourselves and our AMA accountable for the policies we pass, and harnessing the progress that the AMA is making in every area of medicine. We will project strong leadership into the AMA through the leaders we appoint, the policies we take to the House, and by providing trainees with avenues for advocacy and leadership development. I look forward to the chance to serve the RFS as Chair-Elect, with the goal of positioning the RFS as the principle voice for trainees nationwide.
