Rotterg Newg 9pring 2014 Dear Gardener Good news! The planned charge of £20 for yearly green waste collections has been postponed for the year. Please help Ratters by joining our Supporters Club, you'll be able to get hold of our exce ll ent compost at a cheaper rate, use our sma ll drop off facility and help to maintain our· long running, local, not for profit community composting scheme, (for more details please see www rotter·s org) We need some extra capital to replace our old composting machinery; that's been fixed so many times it's worTyin.g; and th e number of people to join could be an indication of how many ,. va lu e our service enough to pay a small amount for it when it comes to compulsory payments. In the garden or a ll otment it's about time to get ready for sprin g planting; our loyal supporters have learned it's a good idea to buy Ratters compost early on to beat the Easter rush when suppli es sometimes run low. Rotters compost is renowned for being a top quality soi l improver, made here in Teesdale from 100% recycled green waste from yo ur gardens, it will giv e yo ur garden and lawn a boost, just ask our amazing loca l gardeners who have been using it for 10 years and more for their flowers and veg! It adds nutrients and organic matter to soil, increases nutritional va lu e and taste of vegetables, buffers soil acid ity, eases soi l compaction, improves drainage in heavy so il s, moisture retention in sandy so il s and Ratters compost is approved by th e Soil Association for use in organic gardens. To make vegetable cu lti vation less of a back strain we are making Ratters raised beds to order· again this year. They are made from local timber and includ e two cubic metres of free compost. We would like to start a new project at our farm near Cotherstone and create a new job for· a young person in Teesdale, but before we do th is we need to id entify the market. Please let us know if you would like to sign up for a weekly delivery of delicious, organic, free-range eggs? And, as always, volunteers are much appreciated throughout the course of the year. Hope to hear from you soon. Happy Garden ing From The Ratters Team Rotter~ Pick-Up Date~ 20t4 We've had a lot of requests to extend our pick-up season furth er into November; obviously it's all down to what we can logistically afford, so the more people who join as Supporters the longer we can run. Please remember 'Ratters' (Teesdale Conservation Volunteers) are a not for profit, community composting initiative and work with volunteers.
