BLACK FLAMINGO Movie Club’s Debut Full-length Record “Black Flamingo” OUT 11/27/20 Listen Now Website Spotify Youtube Instagram In a time when words often fail us, there is Movie Club: The instrumental rock band that expresses a range of raw emotions without need for lyrics. Black Flamingo will be released two years after the band played their @irst show at the infamous Pre-Cal Jam party at Fonogenic Studios. Legendary Venice guitarist Robby Krieger (The Doors) headlined the stage later that evening and Dave Grohl BBQed in the parking lot throughout the night. It all came full circle when the band mixed their @irst LP at Fonogenic this spring. “The response from that original show was so positive that it gave us the courage to continue,” drummer Jessamyn Violet says. “We’re doing something different, and it’s fun.” Movie Club is made up of Vince Cuneo on guitar and Jessamyn Violet on drums. The band has been building an international fan base since their irst EP Kraken dropped in February of 2019. Since then, they have released a total of three EPs that have caught ears all over the globe. “Instrumental music is for everyone," Cuneo says, "no matter which language you speak or culture you come from.” Black Flamingo features special guests on several tracks: Rami Jaffee on keys (Foo Fighters, Wall@lowers), Tim Lefebvre on bass (Bowie, Black Crowes), and Jessy Greene on violin (P!NK, Foo Fighters). Movie Club self-produced the record, engineered and mixed by Jeff Thompson and mastered by Mike Tucci. There will be a limited run of vinyl along with the release, cut by the legendary Andy VanDette. Blige, Iron Maiden and the Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti are all first-time nominees for the 36th annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, the hall announced on Wednesday. They lead a group of 16 nominees, including several who have received nods at least twice before: Devo, LL Cool J, New York Dolls, Rage Against the Machine and Todd Rundgren. After many complaints that the hallʼs hundreds of inductees over the years have been overwhelmingly white and male, this yearʼs ballot is its most diverse yet. Seven of the 16 nominees are female acts, and nine feature artists of color. Women on the ballot include the Go-Goʼs and Dionne Warwick — both receiving their first nods — along with Kate Bush, Carole King, Chaka Khan and Tina Turner. The alternative rock legends’ upcoming effort features a few intriguing storylines, including Dave Grohl’s period of seclusion after breaking his leg, the decision to bring in the producer of Adele’s “Hello,” and a high-profile collaboration that Grohl has remained tight-lipped about. The minimalistic album art follows the tradition of the Foo Fighters rarely appearing on their own album covers. The only exception is 2011’s Wasting Light , which captured the band in an artistically altered portrait. Dave Grohl started writing Concrete and Gold as he recovered from his broken leg. Grohl broke his leg when he fell off stage during a show in Sweden in 2015 and continued to perform while seated on a “throne.” The frontman’s leg didn’t make it back to 100 percent, and the Foo Fighters went on hiatus as Grohl stepped away from music to physically heal.
