In recent years the trend in industrial has seen high performance networking of distributed drives and motion controllers becoming much more common. Technologies from the IT world are being increasingly used in industrial automation applications, one such technology is Ethernet. Some complex industrial automation tasks require hard real-time. However, conventional fast Ethernet switches are not capable of delivering data fast enough for applications.

Combine isochronous real-time and IT data without compromise

Renesas Electronics’ new ERTEC devices give the opportunity to have one Ethernet switch to handle all the Ethernet traffic both conventional and real-time. Using the ERTEC development kits, PROFINET hardware and software applications can be developed and tested using either the ERTEC 200 or 400 Ethernet Controller. Developers can set up a network with PROFINET Industrial Ethernet support straight out of the box and at low overall cost and effort. The ERTEC development environment consists of a set of hardware and software components to considerably reduce development costs for producing a PROFINET IO device such as an IO controller. Included in each of the kits are executable example applications and simulation software to kick start developing a PROFINET solution. The IRT-capable PROFINET IO device stack, that is included in source code, saves manyears of development work. Only customer-specific application software needs to be added on top of the OS.
