The Hill End Story Book 2 by Harry Hodge shows the name of a George Anderson as one who, in 1871, signed a petition to Henry Parkes, P.M.G., for an increase in the Postmaster's Salary (p176 Appendix B SOME OF THE RESIDENTS OF HILL This may be George c1872 – see below notes END - 1871 ). for his wife Emily George was yet another member of the "Bell" family to reap rich rewards on the goldfields of Hill End. He was the subject of a number of favourable mentions in the diary of Mark J Hammond, with whom he also shared a close and lasting friendship (*for full particulars, see the notes for his mother-in-law, Hannah Day). Another account provided by a family researcher is quoted (in part) as follows: George was named after his maternal grandfather George Parker of Wainfleet LIN ENG. He left his farm at Spring Hill near Orange for a time to work on the Hill End goldfield, where he met his future wife, Emily. George died in Orange of Tuberculosis on 24 Jan 1888. He was buried in Ashfield NSW... At the time of his death, the net worth of his estate was valued at £16986/3/3d. George's funeral notice is quoted as follows: THE FRIENDS of the late Mr. GEORGE ANDERSON are invited to attend his Funeral; to move on its arrival from Orange from the residence of M. J. Hammond, Esq., Chandos-street, Ashfield, to the Ashfield Cemetery at 10 a.m., THIS DAY, Thursday. WALTER STEWART. Buried with his wife and two of his sons, George's headstone is inscribed: ....[also] George Anderson died 24 Janry 1888 aged 44 years... .14,12,11,9. Emily's death notice reads: ANDERSON.--June 15, at her residence, Plymlimmon, Ashfield, Emily, wife of George Anderson, aged 27 years, after a short illness, leaving a loving husband and four children to lament their loss. Buried with her husband and two of her sons, Emily's headstone is inscribed: Sacred to the Memory of Emily the beloved wife of George Anderson who died 15th June 1878 aged 27 years [also] her son Arthur John died 9 Oct 1878 aged 4 mos [also] George Anderson died 24 Janry 1888 aged 44 years [also] George Wm Anderson the beloved husband of Maud Anderson died 17th Feby 1903 aged 30 yrs 21,9. The listing occurs under the year 1872, though his birth was not registered until Jan 1873. At the time of his death, George's estate was estimated to have a net value of £5820. The beneficiaries were his wife Annabella Maud and infant son Reginald. George's death and funeral notices read: ANDERSON.--February 17, at his late residence, Clovelly, Avoca-street, Randwick, Geo. William, dearly beloved husband of Maud Anderson.
