LSU KICKS OFF THE CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON AT SEC OUTDOORS APRIL The LSU men’s and women’s track and field teams kick off the championship season this weekend as they travel to Auburn, Ala., to compete in the 2008 SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at 3-5 Texas Relays Austin, Texas Hutsell-Rosen Track on the campus of Auburn University. LADY TIGERS LOOK TO DEFEND SEC OUTDOOR CROWN 30-31 NCAA Mideast Regionals Fayetteville, Ark. Last season, the Lady Tigers ended an 11-year drought by winning their first SEC Outdoor title since the JUNE 1996 season, and they did it in dominating fashion by racking up a total of 139.5 points over the course of the four-day meet. The squad battled eventual winner Tennessee to the bitter end as it finished only 6.5 points behind the Volunteers in the race for the team title. LSU’s Trindon Holliday burst onto the scene with his first career SEC title as he set a then school record of 10.08 seconds to win the 100-meter dash. Two other Tigers won individual SEC titles at last year’s meet as Jamaal James (800 meters) and Chad Radgowski (javelin) return this year to defend their crowns. In addition, the Tigers’ 4x400-meter relay team won its second straight SEC title.
