CELEBRATING 75 YEARS OF CHAMPIONSHIPS LSU’s dominance in track and field can be traced back to the 1933 season when the Tigers won their OUTDOOR first national championship at Chicago’s Soldier Field under the guidance of legendary head coach Bernie Moore. APRIL LSU WRAPS UP INDOOR SEASON AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS 3-5 Texas Relays Austin, Texas The LSU track and field teams are set to wrap up the indoor season this weekend as they travel to 10-11 LSU Combined Events Baton Rouge, La. Fayetteville, Ark., to compete in the 2008 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Randal 12 Tiger Invitational Baton Rouge, La. Tyson Track Center. Fellow senior Kathy Coleman also punched her ticket to the NCAA meet at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse with an automatic qualifying mark of 20 feet, 10 1/2 inches in the long jump. Junior middle distance runner Reuben Twijukye clocked a solid provisional qualifying time of 1:48.29 in the 800 meters at the Cyclone National Qualifier in Ames, Iowa, on Saturday. NCAA QUALIFIERS LADY TIGERS NO. 1, TIGERS NO. 3 HEADING INTO NCAA INDOORS The LSU women’s track and field team is among the favorites to compete for the indoor national title this weekend as they are ranked No. 1 in the country in the lastest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Top 25 released Tuesday. The Lady Tigers have been ranked No. 1 wire to MEN wire this indoor season as they have held the top spot for eight straight weeks. LSU is without peer as the Texas Longhorns are second on the list with six indoor national championships in the 25-year history of women’s collegiate track and field. The Lady LSU IN THE RANKINGS Tigers also boast the longest winning streak of any school in meet history as they captured an unprece- dented five indoor crowns from 1993-97 and three straight titles from 2002-04. No other school has won more than two indoor national championships in a row as Nebraska (1983-84), Texas (1998-99) USTFCCCA Top 25 and UCLA (2000-01) have each won back-to-back titles. LSU TO SEND 18 ATHLETES, 2 RELAY TEAMS TO NCAA MEET INDOOR The puple and gold will be on display at the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend as the Tigers and Week Men Women Lady Tigers will bring a large contingent of 18 athletes and two relay teams to Fayetteville, Ark. LSU ath- Preseason 5 1 letes will be competing in a total of 22 different events over the course of the two-day meet. The Lady Jan. 30 10 1 Tigers rank second in the women’s field with 13 total entries, while the Tigers rank third on the men’s Feb. 6 12 1 side with nine entries of their own. LSU will not be without stiff competition as both teams look to win Feb. 13 8 1 their first NCAA indoor crown since 2004. Tennessee leads the way on the women’s side with 14 entries, Feb. 20 4 1 while defending champion Arizona State features 12 entries.
