Thank you for your time, your contribution and your unwavering support of SkiTAM for the past 15 years. It’s because of you that the USAST athletes are able to fulfill their dreams and represent the USA in adaptive skiing around the world. We hope to see you from March 31 to April 3 in Vail for the 16th annual SkiTAM. In the meantime, join us in wishing the U.S. Adaptive Ski Team luck and safe travels. Many of us welcomed 2010 with open arms. 2009 was a tough year for everyone economically and took its toll on Steve Raymond, SkiTAM Co-Chair our country, companies and local agencies. When we rang in SVP National Accounts, Affiliate Sales & Marketing, 2010, we did so with a new sense of resilience and spirit. Disney & ESPN Networks For SkiTAM, in addition to celebrating our 15-year Joe Rooney, SkiTAM Co-Chair anniversary, adding to the excitement of the new year was SVP Branding, Advertising and Social Media, that 2010 was a Paralympic year. A landmark that comes Cox Communications, Inc. around only once every four years occurred precisely when the country could use something inspirational Matt Moyer, CTAM of the Rocky Mountains President to look forward to. As expected, we had a vivacious Director, Marketing & Sales, group of SkiTAM loyalists travel to Vancouver, B.C., to Comcast Cable cheer our Paralympians to victory. The athletes braved unprecedentedly challenging conditions on the mountain and Nordic track, as well as grueling training and regimens, to bring home 12 Paralympic medals. After leaving Vancouver, we were reminded that most of these athletes are only able to compete in the Paralympic Games due to the supporters of SkiTAM. This reality check does not take into consideration the financial support we provide to attend the races leading up to the games, training camps, pricy equipment and more. Thanks to your support, for 15 years we have underwritten these efforts with great honor and pride. It was under review is the reply from Ottawa! In 2013, there were four Meritorious Service Cross (civil) awarded in Canada. No MSCs had not been given since 21 April 2005. It was an odd mixture - of the four MSCs, one already had an MSC (military) and would receive an Officer of the Order of Canada within a year (Chis Hadfield); one already had the Order of Canada (Clara Hughes) and one had died (Sarah Burke). The other was to the Mayor of Lac-Mégantic, Quebec. All were well deserved. And all looked very political. This then raises the question, will the MSM (civil) again be awarded or will this become a little used medal. In the past, Canadians who received Olympic gold medals received Meritorious Service Decorations but this stopped with the review. I know several of the MSM (civil) recipients and they are outstanding citizens, well deserving of their honour and they wear the honour proudly. Suddenly, in the Canada Gazette of 02 January 2016, a large number of MSC and MSM (civil) awards were announced. No other announcement about what the review found or request for nominations.

sports Article Analysis of the Coverage of Paratriathlon and Paratriathletes in Canadian Newspapers Gregor Wolbring * ID and Brian Martin Department of Community Health Sciences, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, 3330 Hospital Drive NW, Calgary, AB T2N 4N1, Canada; [email protected] * Correspondence: [email protected]; Tel.: +1-403-210-7083 Received: 22 July 2018; Accepted: 21 August 2018; Published: 29 August 2018 Abstract: From recreational to elite levels, sport has many benefits for disabled people. At the same time, it is acknowledged that there is a trickle-down problem from para-elite sport to sport participation of disabled people, in general. Newspapers are one form of media that sets agendas and influences public opinion. Many studies have highlighted problematic aspects of parasport and para-athlete coverage in newspapers. Paratriathlon was one of two new events added to the Paralympics in Rio 2016, which increased its visibility in the public domain. We investigated the coverage of paratriathlon and paratriathletes in 300 Canadian newspapers using the ProQuest database Canadian Newsstream as a source, and utilizing a descriptive quantitative and a qualitative thematic content analysis. The main themes evident in the reporting on paratriathlon and paratriathletes, in the three hundred Canadian newspapers we covered, were the supercrip imagery of the para-athlete, personal stories mostly linked to the supercrip imagery, and the theme of able-bodied athletes in juxtaposition to the para-athletes. Using the lens of the four legacy goals of the International Paralympic Committee, we conclude that our findings are detrimental to the fulfillment of the four legacy goals.
