The Chairman announced that it was his sad duty to inform the residents that Rita Page had passed away. 3. MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES Residents discussed the previous minutes and no issues were raised. 4. ANY OTHER BUSINESS 2 Wigston Parva Parish Meeting - Thursday, 12 May 2016 Fly Tipping It was noted that there had been a good response from Blaby District Council in response to fly tipping. Cllr I Hewson reported that he would follow up any issues regarding fly tipping. Fosse Villages The Chair reported that he had discussed issues with the parishes in respect of the Fosse Villages Neighbourhood Plan and that Wigston Parva was twinned with Sharnford, who would make any representations. Possible Strategic Rail Interchange Development Cllr Iain Hewson explained to the residents that a Strategic Rail Interchange Development would include opening up the south bound access at Junction 2 of the M69, creating a rail freight interchange on the Leicester – Birmingham line between Burbage Common and Elmesthorpe.

PC 647 Clough and PCSO 6157 Kurk were out in Braunstone Town and Thorpe Astley carrying out speed checks after concerns were raised from the community around road safety. These checks will be on going at various locations within the coming months. #YouSaidWeDid During one shift we followed intelligence we’d received from the public and managed to dismantle a small cannabis factory, moving on we also completed house to house enquiries for a theft, returned property to its owners, safeguarding for a domestic abuse victim, documented an anti-social behaviour issue with neighbours, bail address check and recovered a vehicle for obstructing a bus route. Not bad for one shift. On Sunday 21st March 2021 we had a report of metal being stolen from a business premises on Meridian Business Park. PC647 Clough located the vehicle which was used a short time later in Braunstone Town, dealt with the suspect and recovered the items, which were returned to the business. Last month we highlighted an increase in the theft of electric bikes. 1 person has been arrested in connection with these offences, it is still early on in the investigation and enquiries are continuing. The beat team had a beat priority day last month. First thing the beat team headed to Millfield Academy, Braunstone Town and gave words of advice to parents who were parked on the pavement. The team also spent time on Turnbull Drive, Braunstone Town with the speed gun at the end of school.

Don’t open the door Sometimes people turn up unannounced with the intention of tricking their way into your home or overcharging you for a job. Always be cautious when someone you don’t know calls at your door. LOCK – Always keep your windows and doors locked even if you are going out for a short time. STOP – Ensure the back door is locked before answering the front door so that nobody can access your house while you are distracted CHAIN – If you do decide to open the door, put the door bar or chain on first. Keep the chain on while you talk to the person on the doorstep. When the door is closed, remove the chain in case you need to get out quickly. Alternatively if you don’t have a door chain/bar and don’t wish to open the door use a front window to speak to the visitor. CHECK – NO ID? No entry! If a stranger wasn’t to come in and claims that they are from a utility company, local authority or any other organisation, always ask for their ID, and even if you were expecting the – genuine callers will happily show you ID. Close the door and check the ID carefully. Call the head office if you are still unsure, but use the number from the telephone directory or a recent utility bill, not the one on their card. Bogus callers may be smartly dressed and can be convincing.
