News

This month your neighbourhood beat team have been very busy. PC 647 Clough and PCSO 6157 Kurk were out in Braunstone Town and Thorpe Astley carrying out speed checks after concerns were raised from the community around road safety. These checks will be on going at various locations within the coming months. #YouSaidWeDid

During one shift we followed intelligence we’d received from the public and managed to dismantle a small cannabis factory, moving on we also completed house to house enquiries for a theft, returned property to its owners, safeguarding for a domestic abuse victim, documented an anti-social behaviour issue with neighbours, bail address check and recovered a vehicle for obstructing a bus route. Not bad for one shift.

On Sunday 21st March 2021 we had a report of metal being stolen from a business premises on Meridian Business Park. PC647 Clough located the vehicle which was used a short time later in Braunstone Town, dealt with the suspect and recovered the items, which were returned to the business.

Last month we highlighted an increase in the theft of electric bikes. 1 person has been arrested in connection with these offences, it is still early on in the investigation and enquiries are continuing.

The beat team had a beat priority day last month. First thing the beat team headed to Millfield Academy, Braunstone Town and gave words of advice to parents who were parked on the pavement. The team also spent time on Turnbull Drive, Braunstone Town with the speed gun at the end of school. Over 50 vehicles complied with the 30MPH limit and one driver was spoken to in relation to speeding. After reports from members of the public and concerns raised at the Braunstone Town Council meeting around motorbike anti-social behaviour, the beat placed Section 59 warning notice signage around park near to the Thorpe Astley Community Centre. This signage will enable us to seize any motorbikes on the park. The team have been liaising with Housing Group about anti-social behaviour; a recently dumped sofa (now removed) was attracting youths to an area with elderly residents, the team are now patrolling the area to identify and engage with the youths. In addition to the above Officers also completed a quarantine check for the Border Force and a licensing meeting for Public Houses in relation to their reopening.

Finally PC 2198 Morris and PC 1351 Morris seized a cloned Van on Woodcote Road, Braunstone Town after a tip off. #YouSaidWeDid

Local police continue to adopt a pro-active approach during their day to day activities and continue to patrol ASB hotspots on area. One highlighted area of concern is Peveral Court and surrounding areas, Braunstone Town which has been highlighted as an ASB hotspot for youths gathering by various residents at the location.

A further location of concern are the parks and open green spaces which has seen large groups of youths gathering. As a result of this information, police have prioritised these locations and will deal with anyone found at the location robustly, both from an ASB and Covid breach aspect.

The beat team respectfully ask parents to ensure they are fully aware of the latest Covid regulations and that these messages are also passed on to their children. • You said - Road safety. We continue to respond to incidents and information reported from local residents in addition to pro-actively policing the streets. Firstly, a local speeding op was conducted on 01/03/21 at Turnbull Drive, Braunstone Town and Murby Way, Thorpe Astley. The majority of vehicles observed the speed limits, with only one vehicle being stopped and sanctioned re speeding offences. Further speeding operations are in place for the end of the month and into April.

In addition to the above, with the reopening of schools, your local beat team have also been patrolling the relevant schools on area at key drop off and pick up times. Traffic congestion and parking matters will always be an issue so please ensure you take into account other road users and residents living nearby. • You said – Vehicle crime. Local officers from the neighbourhood teams and patrol teams combined recently for two days of proactive work in and around Braunstone Town and Thorpe Astley. On 28/02/21 a combination of marked and plain vehicles were used throughout the night to target key areas on the beat. Results included one suspicious male being stopped, various intelligence opportunities identified and a vehicle which failed to stop.

On 11/03/21 further good results were achieved, including a driver being stopped and their vehicle recovered for no licence and no insurance and a road traffic collision with runners from the vehicle. Close to finishing time, a stolen vehicle was seen in Braunstone Town and following some great work by the team, one individual was arrested and the vehicle recovered. • You said - Nuisance motorbikes. We are fully aware of the historical issues with motorbikes in fields and parks locally. We are fully committed to this priority and are working alongside the ASB department at District Council to tackle this. S59 warning signs have been erected at key hotspot locations, allowing police to seize bikes immediately from anyone involved in this unwanted behaviour. Following police attendance at the Braunstone Town Council meeting, plans are in place to erect these signs at further locations in Braunstone Town and Thorpe Astley.

Can we please remind you of your current responsibilities under Covid regulations, in addition to the driving offences committed with this type of incident.
