A military defeat of this person was commemorated in an orchestral piece that was premiered at a charity concert for wounded soldiers, along with its composer's seventh symphony. A song commemorating the "battle and defeat" of this person is part of the Hary Janos (HAH-ree YAY-nosh) Suite. Ferdinand Ries related that a composer tore the title page of another of his pieces in half to omit a mention of this person. In November 2013, an interview between this man and Eugenio Scalfari of La Repubblica was taken down from a website when it was found to contain inaccuracies. A statement this man made in May 2013 was quickly refuted by Thomas Rosica in an article for ZENIT. This man caused a stir in March 2013 at the Casal del Marmo detention center when two young women and ten young men had their feet washed by him. • Dominican Missions in the Vatican Expostition
CJJominican 8v!issions in the Vatican Exposition By BRO. DALMATIUS MARRIN, 0. P. HEN Pope Innocent III in 1216 gave to St. Dominic and I] his disciples the title of "Friars Preachers," he seemed to have done so under a divine inspiration. Thirty-five years from the inception of the Order, its missions had extended to all parts of the world, to Eastern Europe, Africa, the Graeco-Schismatic Orient, Armenia, Cbaldea and Persia, even as far as India. And today after seven centuries, the same mis sionary spirit impressed by St. Dominic on his sons is seen most conspicuously in the part taken by Dominicans in the Vatican Exposition, not the least glorious of the observances ordered by Pius XI in connection with the celebration of the Holy Year. The thought of the Supreme Pontiff, who deservedly is called the "Pope of the Missions," to have an exposition where Catholic missionary endeavor could be vividly set forth, was a most happy one. The Order of Preachers, always to the front in carrying the torch of truth to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, could not but enter whole-heartedly into a project of this kind. The work of those placed in charge of the Dominican exhibit has been wonderfully successful, a brief de scription of which will undoubtedly prove of interest. The Order's contributions are disposed throughout the seven sections of the Exposition, namely, of History, the Martyrs, the Library, Statistics, the Native Clergy, the Ethnological and Med ical Sections. In the last named Dominican Missions are repre sented by a wonderful exhibit brought there by Fr.

Chicago, 1991 DIFFERENT ELEMENTS IN THE OFFICES: Historical Notes 25. In accord with the General Instruction of the Liturgy of the Hours a short biographical note has been placed at the beginning of the proper Office of each Saint or Blessed. As is the case for some Propers of certain religious families and dioceses, these short biographical notices were written in a fuller manner and edited according to contemporary historico-critical findings by the office of the Postulator General of the Order." Thus, the desire of many has been satisfied, namely, the desire for spiritual nourishment, not only from the second readings of the Office of Readings, but also from the biographical note which describes the unique characteristics of the spiritual life, the teaching, or the pastoral activity of the Saint or Blessed. These notes can serve as an initial introduction to the Saint or Blessed or as a homiletic aid, as well as a source for personal meditation. General Introduction, p. xxxiv. Save to your computer and extract by clicking on the filename. Foreword In our pluralistic age we recognize many traditions have special gifts to make to a rich, well-balanced spirituality for our time. My own life has shown me the spiritual tradition stemming from St. Dominic, like that from his contemporary St. Francis, provides ever fresh insights. No tradition, however, can be understood merely by looking at its origins. We must see it unfold historically in those who have been formed by that tradition in many times and situations and have furthered its development. To know its essential strength, we need to see it tested, undergoing deformations yet recovering and growing. Therefore, I have tried to survey its eight centuries to give some sense of its chronology and its individual personalities, and of the inclusive Dominican Family. I have aimed only to provide a sketch to encourage readers to use the bibliography to explore further, but with regret I have omitted all documentation except to indicate the source of quotations. Translated 1 quotations are mine. I thank Sister Susan Noffke, O.P., Fr. Thomas Donlan, O.P., for encouraging this project and my Provincial, Fr.

It is a letter intended to travel— to circulate. However in modern times it has become almost exclusively used to denote teachings from the Pope. Comparing an encyclical to other kinds of official Roman Catholic documents is a good way to understand the significance of an encyclical. Firstly, when the pope makes a declaration of some article of faith or moral law it is

  • The Holy See
The Holy See ACERBA ANIMI ENCYCLICAL OF POPE PIUS XI ON PERSECUTION OF THE CHURCH IN MEXICO TO OUR VENERABLE BROTHERS OF MEXICO, THE ARCHBISHOPS, BISHOPS, AND ORDINARIES IN PEACE AND COMMUNION WITH THE APOSTOLIC SEE. Health, Venerable Brethren, and the Apostolic Blessing. The concern and sorrow which We feel at the present sad plight of human society at large in no way lessen Our special solicitude for Our beloved sons of the Mexican nation and for you, Venerable Brethren, who are the more deserving of Our paternal regard because you have been so long harassed by grievous persecutions.2. From the beginning of Our Pontificate, following the example of Our Venerable Predecessor, We endeavoured with all Our might to ward off the application of those constitutional statutes which the Holy See had several times been obliged to condemn as seriously derogatory to the most elementary and inalienable rights of the Church and of the faithful. With this intent We provided that Our Representative should take up his residence in your Republic.3. But whereas other Governments in recent times have been eager to renew agreements with the Holy See, that of Mexico frustrated every attempt to arrive at an understanding. On the contrary, it most unexpectedly broke the promises made to Us shortly before in writing, banishing repeatedly Our Representatives and showing thereby its animosity against the Church. Thus a most rigorous application was given to Article 130 of the Constitution, against which, on account of its extreme hostility to the Church, as may be seen from Our Encyclical Iniquis afflictisque of November 18, 1926, the Holy See had to protest in the most solemn manner.
