VALE BILL HILL

Life member Bill Hill passed away on 2 January 2019, a few days shy of his 90th birthday.

Bill was a loved life member, supporter and worker of the City United/Kedron Wavell Hockey Club for many years. Many will remember Bill and his wife, Helen (also a valued life member), sitting on the hill near the shed at Burringbar Park cheering on his beloved red and white Wolves.

Bill was also a manager and friend of the Division 1 ladies’ team for many years.

The strength of the wolf pack was evident by the number of members who attended Bill’s funeral, all wearing red and white. It was an impressive sight to see and clearly showed how much he was loved and respected.

A quiet gentleman, Bill will be missed by all.

TREASURER’S REPORT This Treasurer’s report and the audited Financial Statements that are part of this Annual Report are prepared on a cash accounting basis.

STATEMENT OF INCOME AND EXPENDITURE

2019 resulted in a net profit of $27,815.05 (2018 profit $31,914.34) for Kedron Wavell Services Hockey Club “The Club”. The 2019 result should be read with the following notes:

*As noted in the 2018 Treasurers report the below payments were made within the 2019 FY: - Player payments $300 Men - BWHA invoices $6,682 Women & Girls - Umpiring payments $4,092 Women

*As at 30 September 2019 (year-end) the following expenses are outstanding and due to the method of accounting being cash are not included in the Statement of Income and Expenditure: - Canteen Payments $3,345 - Online Hockey Shop $2912.08 - Umpiring payments $820 Jnr Girls - Ranald Simmons $2,640 Jnrs

*As at 30 September 2019 uncollected fees are: SEASON SECTION 2018 2017 2015 TOTAL MEN $1,334.00 $1,140.00 $710.00 $3,1874.00 WOMEN BOYS $891.10 $891.10 GIRLS TOTAL $1,334.00 $2,031.10 $710.00 $4,075.10

The Club’s policy of 30 April deadline for the payment of player fees is crucial for The Club to be able to meet its financial obligations during the season. All sections had full fees paid within 2019 which is a commendable effort. Men’s outstanding fees for 2018 have slightly decreased by $330.00.

*Canteen - Accounting L of $2,384.59 (Invoices paid outside the FY, noted above) - Actual Profit $7,063.62 to be distributed to sections - Sales increased 1.5% from 2018 - EFTPOS sales continue to increase to well above 40% of sales

BALANCE SHEET Net assets of The Club have again increased in 2019 to $174,363.51 up from $146,548.46 in 2018. As noted above various expenses have been paid within the 2019 Financial Year. A long term loan of $100,000 to BHMG to facilitate BP2 development, being repaid over 10 years.

The Hockey Pro Shop has incurred a loss of $935 which included an invoice from 2018FY, there is now the stock of $11,889 for the 2020 season. Sales up 8.8% from 2018, we expect further growth within the 2020 season with bigger indoor hockey sales. PayPal for the shop has ceased however we have an EFTPOS terminal and Stripe through the website.

All sections within the club are now invoicing through MYOB allowing members to pay via direct deposit or Credit Card, this will continue in 2020. The canteen continues to utilise the EFTPOS and the percentage of customers paying via credit card continues to lift.

Amanda Paech (CPA, B. Com) Treasurer

LIFE MEMBER

The greatest honour a Club can bestow on a member is that of Life Membership. This year, we recognised John Davis as a Life Member.

John is a wolf to the core, a proud club person who has worked tirelessly to further the future of this great club.

John first joined our ranks in the 1990s and while he is a player with the club, he has also achieved representative honours at , and Australian levels.

But it is his work off the field where his contribution is really noticed. John has made significant personal contributions to the men's side of the club which has seen that section go from strength to strength.

Building networks and partnerships wherever he goes, John's work with our major sponsor, the Kedron Wavell Services Club, has ensured continued funding to support the club. John was integral in securing the funding for the replacement of the turf on Burringbar Park Field 1 following the collapse of ShawSportz and then he obtained the funding required for the second turf.

He's been Club President since 2011 and it gives us great pleasure to honour John as our newest Life Member.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT Well, wasn’t this the year!

The Wolves have, finally, nailed a Division 1 premiership … and it went to a great team and great coach. It was even more pleasing to see so many of the team – and the coach - go on to win the inaugural Hockey 1 season in the .

Just as wonderful was seeing the Juniors nail the double J1 premierships … just the second time in the Club history … and a shout out here to (Life Member) Karen and Courtney Davis, who completed a mum and daughter double across those two years of double premierships. I was really pleased sharing the celebration of that win with so many of the Club with at another great end-of-season Junior’s presentation afternoon.

The year’s achievements were well and truly capped off with the opening of the second artificial turf field at Burringbar, with the new grass field set to bring home grass training in 2020 (a huge YES!!) and give us a top quality grass playing surface. I’m sure we’re all looking forward to a Club Day in 2020 that allows us to get the DP teams to come out and play at the same venue as the turf teams. It’s worth noting again the tremendous support we received for this facility from Brisbane City Council and we are once again incredibly grateful for the support of our local Councillor, Cr Fiona Hammond. In 2020, thanks to the support of the State Government and our local member Dr Anthony Lynham, we’re going to see the construction of a second set of change rooms at this field, which will also serve the grass field.

Overall, it was fantastic to see on field success again this year with a number of junior and senior premierships – spread across the Club so celebrations were there on both Junior presentation day and Senior presentation nights. Once again, we had a long list of representative players – read them all at the end of this Annual Report – and some great umpiring achievements as well.

The Club’s Management Committee and Section Committees did another great job this year, and together with all of you who contribute to make our Club activities happen off the field: organising sections, canteen, teams, partnerships and all the other myriad activities that make it possible for the players to run out every week, I thank you. Your contributions are substantial and magnificent, and we wouldn’t survive without you. And can I say thank you to all of you for the humbling honour of making me a Life Member of our Club this year … I really was overwhelmed by your generosity on the night.

The Kedron Wavell Services Club continue to be great supporters of our Club and we again thank them for their sponsorship. To repay the favour, slip over to the KW Services Club for a great meal or just a coffee – it really is a great venue.

This year we were really grateful for our new physiotherapy partner Allsports Physiotherapy; who have given great support to and played a really important role in the success of, both the Men’s and Women’s Division 1 teams. Look them up on our Club website – along with our other sponsors and partners – they are all worth your support when you need the services they provide.

See you again at the field in 2020…

Go Wolves!

John Davis Club President

PARTNERSHIP MANAGER’S REPORT

Kedron Wavell Service Hockey Club would like to thank our official 2019 partners:  Kedron Wavell Services Club  Chermside Family Dental  Allsports Physiotherapy & Sports Medicine Clinic  Stronach Building Group  Peak Marketing  Hockey Pro Shop

We also say thank you to our key suppliers Kukri, Online Hockey and Ciriello Hockey Equipment.

It is also important to recognise and give special thanks to both our State and Local Government members for their ongoing support to our club and to the sport of hockey.

Lastly there is also several members who donate funds to sections of our clubs, many of which prefer not to advertise their efforts. Thank you for your ongoing support over the many years: it makes a large impact to the club.

2019 season started with mixed results with the loss of two smaller sponsors. Regardless of their size they have an impact on the club. On a positive note, the club maintained its relationship with key partners and gained benefit with a new partner, Peak Marketing, coming on board to provide some free and heavily discounted club apparel and allowing us to make a small profit on their sales.

One of the highlights of 2019 season was the continued growth of the club’s ‘Hockey Pro Shop’. Without a real shop front, a key action this season was to ensure we heavily targeted the local market through social media and ensure we provided consistent opening hours every Wednesday afternoon/evening and Saturday mornings. This strategy proved successful with a 100% increase in sales whilst maintaining a good margin. This has also flowed into the Indoor season where we gained good sales and excellent feedback from Brisbane players. Cash flow for the shop remains an issue with a need to carefully control our purchase orders whilst ensuring stock is available for the market.

We are excited about 2020 as our brand grows.

MEN’S SECTION REPORT

Kedron men fielded eight teams this season: Divisions 1,2,3 5 and 6, and Masters 2,3 and 4. In another successful year the club’s men secured premierships in two divisions: Masters 3 and Masters 4 and were runners up in a third: Division 6.

All men’s fees were paid in full by the completion of the season which resulted in the section breaking even financially.

The Wolves had a strong showing in representative teams with four players representing national teams (Kula Bhullar, Brad Mathers, Hayden Michel and Troy Rossiter). Masters players filled many places in state teams and there were also numerous reps in state indoor squads. Four men represented Brisbane in the Super League competition with a further three competing for other districts. Special mention to the six young men who fought through to make their Division one debut during the year.

Around the teams:

Division 1: Started the season strongly with a semifinal appearance in the Tiger Turf Cup including a round victory over the eventual winners. This continued throughout the year with some great victories over highly fancied teams such as Saints, Commercial and University and two thrilling games against 2019 premiers Labrador. The squad was as high as third mid-way through the season but finished sixth in a very close competition.

Division 2: Had a disappointing result (7th) which belies how close and competitive they were all season. Overall the squad performed very well defensively but struggled at the other end to score winning goals.

Division 3: A tough year for a very young squad, finishing 9th. The team lost two players throughout the year to head injuries highlighting the need for a policy on protective equipment. Will be much better for the run in 2019 and should be much closer to the pointy end in 2020.

Division 5: Unlucky to miss out on finals having been third or fourth all year, only to drop to fifth and out of finals play in the final round of the season. Led by a new coach and with a relatively stable group of players for the first time in many years the results were solid for this team and they should be strong in 2020.

Division 6. Led the premiership for most of the season and were the first team into the Division 6 grand final. The team led twice during the grand final only to be pipped by a strong finishing Valleys team. As always, this team continues to show the way for the Men’s club and will continue to be a force for many seasons to come.

Masters 2: Kedron considered fielding a Masters 1 team this season however in the end entered a masters 2 team meaning a number of mature guys currently playing in the divisional competition were not eligible. The team were strong all season finishing 5th and just short of finals.

Masters 3: The team, which contains a significant number of our Division 6 squad, were second for much of the season and entered their grand final as underdogs to a strong Norths team. A great effort in the shootout, highlighted by a sensational goal keeping performance from Tony Dodds, resulted in a heart stopping victory.

Masters4: Perennial Overachievers, Masters 4, won another premiership in 2019 to add to their astonishing collection of victories in the past 20 years.

Well done Kedron men.

Alan Myers Men’s Vice President 13

LADIES’ SECTION REPORT 2019 saw a change to the teams for the ladies this year, with a new team on grass (after a 4-year gap), and whilst we had hoped for a DP4 team, BWHA had other ideas, and DP2 was back.

Drew Cameron – a junior dad came on board this season as the DP1 coach. The team welcomed 2 new members, a junior goalkeeper in young Brooke and her sister Lauren in her first year of seniors. They had a very strong core with all the remaining players backing up from last year, and again had a good season.

It was a big job to find someone to take the new team, but Christine saw the need for the coach role to be covered and pulled up her socks ‘literally’ each Saturday and took this on. A changed group of seniors together provided a strong backdrop for the very enthusiastic new juniors players that joined this team and formed our new DP2 team.

Down in DP5 and Caeleigh was back. We saw some returning players to hockey, and we had some new mums also stepping into the team. Great to see so many new faces and returning faces to the hockey fields, and again Caeleigh saw some new juniors stepping in on the weeks needed to give a hand.

The star team at DP for Kedron this season however was our DP3 with Elaine at the helm again. Also with some new faces from juniors joining the ranks of a very family oriented team (4 mother/daughter combos, with an aunty as well) and the return of Miranda in the goals, we watched this team have a successful season with a Grand Final berth. They played a great game against Commercial, and it got close there at the end, but wasn’t to be, that finished seeing us as Runners Up.

The proud wolves howled with the player of the match being named from our pack, Juliet Hancock having a cracker game.

A successful season for all the ladies that line-up at the home of women’s hockey each Saturday. Your contribution to the grass roots of hockey is alive and well – this is evident in what we see in our juniors coming through.

Our Master’s ladies saw a good handful of our grass and div ladies backing up each Monday night, along with some returning players and newbies making up our two teams. We saw a few injuries over the season, nothing too serious though, and good to see both teams have fun.

MM3 saw most of their returning players from last year and had a competitive season. Another fun season for the ladies. The MM1 wolves took the field for the Grand Final, but after a shared score-line at fulltime (despite multiple attempts on the goals) our ladies were unlucky in the shootouts and took the Runners Up red ribbons.

Over on the artificial surface, we saw five teams again in the competition, though this year a change in the coaching ranks. Div 5 with Tex saw a very new team with a handful from last year welcoming a mix of new players to the wolf pack. This team came together from the get-go and had a cracker start. They were not only undefeated through the first 7 games, but also had not conceded a goal. The strong defence in this team was key to them securing a finals berth. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be, and they bowed out after losing in a shoot-out in the 3rd round of finals.

Up in Div 2 we were very fortunate to have Lisa another year, and with a bit of a changed team from seasons before they just clicked and had their sights set on going all the way, finishing top 2 after the fixtures. The girls pushed through three rounds of finals, but on the last weekend before the big one, even after a huge 1 on 1 save by Gen, we went to shootouts and Easts got us. Unlucky girls! But great season.

Our women’s’ first Grand Final berth came with a very changed Div 4 team. Kerry was the coach this season, and with a mass of new players, including two mother/daughter combos and four junior players around the core from last year, this team looked strong. Finishing 3rd after fixture rounds and beating the minor premiers in the 3rd finals round, we were up against Easts. After a massive 70 minutes we saw the girls line up for shootouts – and unfortunately (again) it wasn’t to be. The red ribbon strikes again. Still a great ending. Great season ladies.

On the last weekend of our season, in a changeup of a morning timeslot, our Div 3 ladies went to their Grand Final. This very changed team was lead by coach Barry, and these ladies took all he threw at them and finished the regular season as Minor Premiers. No one said this was going to be an easy gig, but these ladies came 14 together with Barry and pulled off a mighty season. After ANOTHER drawn game at full time, we went off to shootouts – AGAIN – but this time the wolves were no match. On one hand Sarah saved everything UQ hit at her, and on the other, our strikers belted it past the UQ goalie, and with a 3-0 scoreline after the first 3 pairs – the women finally saw the blue ribbon. Congratulations Barry and Div 3 – you should be so proud of your season!

Following the first great win of Saturday 14th, we saw our Div 1 team step on the field to do us proud and take on the Minor Premiers UQ. In her 12th season of coaching at Kedron Wavell Nikki brought this team of players to an afternoon they will never forget. Congratulations Nikki and the Div 1 team on an awesome win – the very first ladies Div 1 Premiership for our club!

A big thank you to all our wonderful coaches – some old and some new – you have all put in mountains of hours in what has proven to be a very successful season.

To all our representative players that have stepped out onto the field this year, congratulations! A range of players from U18’s to Masters and our very own Hockeyroos, you ALL do us proud.

And lastly, no game can be played without two very important people on our sidelines – donning the bright yellow – this year KW saw many a player also step out as an umpire. We cannot thank you enough.

So, to sum up – women’s’ section fielded 11 teams / 7 teams went to finals / 4 played grand finals and 2 won the premiership!

We had a record number of 18 juniors playing in the section full time, more umpires officiating games than ever before across the section and to all the supporters, players, partners, families, friends, thank you! What a stellar year!

Watch Those Wolves Go – a Dr Seuss Tribute to Division 1

The season came your way You nailed that big game Took that trophy away Nik’s game play in your head CC’s fleet foot in her shoes You chose to steer yourselves The way that you choose You did it together, and here’s what I know You wolves are the ones who decided where you would go. Hannah drags from the back, Kendra leads left with care Pass it to Jodie, she’s right over there She lifts up the ball, arrives at Noffke’s feet She uses her smarts, the defenders she’ll beat They didn’t miss many Those three shots go down It made them of course The talk of the town Oh, watch those wolves go Shan sends the ball up MJ, circle in sight Ash’s shot a high flier My, my such delight Kerr sisters don’t lag, they both have the speed Cut through the whole gang, to put Jazz in the lead And then through the middle, young gun Abbey will test And what she can’t handle, Britt takes on the rest But every so often it’s down the wrong end Hits Little’s pads with a thump And chances are then She might give them a bump You cannot forget Subs get the game won Courtney and Georgie Helped get the job done Oh watch those wolves go. There is fun to be done There were points to be scored. That grand final to be won. And the magical things you can do with that ball Has made Kedron Wavell the winning-est winner of all Nicki and Allan on the sideline, helped you be what you’d be With the whole wide world watched you win on HZ TV

JUNIOR GIRLS’ SECTION REPORT I would like to acknowledge and thank Ladies VP Tash Gaddes for her continued work within and support of the girls’ section for the 2019 season. Many additional hours have been put in by Tash to the success of the season and we cannot thank her enough. Junior Girls increased the total team numbers to 14 this year.

Overall membership numbers again grew slightly on 2018, this was a result of players coming across from Pine Rivers as well as new memberships from the Give Hockey a Go program. Our JT1 team succeeded in winning back to back premierships under coach Nikki Taylor. Such a great result considering the amount of player down time with injury and representative commitments.

Our JT4 team in 2018 were successful in securing a spot in the JT3 competition. A great result under coach Tess Long with the team finishing 5th.

We started the season on grass fielding 2 x U9 teams. Due to some players in U11 pulling out, players from U9 were moved up leaving 1 x U9 team. Due to the high number of players left in the U9 team, a compromise was met with parents to allow U9 player 2 games off for the season to allow reasonable playing time for the players.

For the first time the club fielded 4 x U11 teams, one in each grade. Our U11D team was comprised of all new to hockey players, having their first win of the season being their last game of the season was a great achievement. All other U11 teams performed well. In another first, our numbers in our JG division required a split in to 2 teams. Trials were held, whilst there was disappointment for some girls who had played in the joint premiership winning JG2 team in 2018, the results of the teams showed a great result due to the team selections. JG1 under coach Tracey Sullivan were very competitive finishing 3rd and JG2 team finishing 4th. Our JG2 team included a returning player from 3 years ago as well as a new to hockey player. Great effort.

At presentation day we saw another large group of girls (15) accept loyalty awards for playing their 5th consecutive season as a junior for the club, and one girl being awarded their 10-year loyalty. It is so great to see so many girls returning each year!

Coaches Without the time and dedication put in by our coaches, our kids wouldn’t have the opportunity to play. Thank you all for the many hours you give to our sport!

Junior Turf – Nikki Taylor, Emily Hegney, Hannah Lowry, Tessa Long (Allison Dewar), Pam Patteson and Darren Punch. Congratulations to you all for taking the time to coach these teams. Again, congratulations to Nikki Taylor with back to back JT1 premierships.

Junior Grass - thank you to Tracey Sullivan, Riley Kirk, John Lee, Tracey O’Connor, Jasmine Larosa, Ashleigh Neill, Brianna Hancock, Juliet Hancock, Taylah Cavanagh, Tanya Ricketts for coaching our junior grass teams this season.

Under 9s and Under 7s – thank you to Issy Flynn, Rhiannon Aleksic and Catherin Burchill for coaching our little champions this season. Both Issy and Rhiannon were new coaches this season and did a great job. Catherine Burchill again battled a personal matter throughout the season, and continued with the girls the whole way, Catherine even stepped up to help coach our U11’s when needed, a true inspiration.

Managers Each year managers are invaluable in assisting coaches, coordinating team communications (with many emails and text messages), canteen rosters, photo’s, carpooling etc. Again, this year we found a parent from each team to fill the role. Great work parents in helping our club and your teams with your efforts and time. It is sincerely appreciated.

Volunteer/Canteen Levy Each year within our registration there is a component of volunteering in the club canteen. The proceeds of the canteen are used to help growth within our club, and the volunteer part helps to keep playing fees reduced. Thank you to all the parents for fulfilling this years’ registration commitment.

18

Our Downey Park Cake Stall continues to be one of our main fundraisers each year, and we again thank Joanne Galvin for your efforts in organising and managing this day – our Cake Stall for 2019 was successful, it was noted that numbers were down from previous years due to the change in the raffle setup and also people looking for more savoury options. Jo, your team of talented people made our stall look magnificent, and the sweets a treat!

Umpiring Each season clubs are to liaise with BWHA submitting our weekly umpire rosters. This is communicating with many umpires to fulfil our games each week with availabilities and experience levels. Thank you to all our umpires and parents for the work done this year and continuing your commitment.

Thanks again to Alyson Aleksic for running another successful umpires course this season resulting in 7 new umpires.

Congratulations go to Claire Kearney receiving her Community Badge.

Congratulations to Georgia Gaddes and Katie Le Moeligou for umpiring at the U15 State Championships.

Representative Players This season saw 20 girls selected for representative teams in the different age divisions. Congratulations to all who were successful, and we encourage all players to continue to seek representative honours in the future.

Big congratulations for special awards at the U15 state championships to Georgina West – Player of the Tournament and Madyson Jones – GK of the Tournament.

Congratulations to Sophie Edwards, Madyson Jones, Sinead Swartz & Georgina West for their selections in to the QLD1 U15 team and to Madeliene Casey for her selection in to her first state team, QLD U13’s. Further congratulations to Brooke Seawright for her selection to the U15 QLD Squad and special mention to Georgina West for her inclusion to the U18 QLD squad. We wish them both all the best for selection to the 2020 team.

A list of all representative players and honours is further below. There are many parents and supporters that have contributed in some way throughout the season, a big thank you to you all. It takes many volunteer hands to make a club run.

For the 4th consecutive year, I would like to thank our Junior Girls Secretary Lisa Newbold. Lisa’s work continues to help grow our section and her support is invaluable. Thank you, Lisa! Lastly, I would like to acknowledge all of the older girls who, by age, have played their last game of junior girl’s hockey proudly for Kedron Wavell Services Hockey Club. Thanks for your commitment to the development of our junior girls’ section and we look forward to watching you enjoy your hockey up in the senior ranks.

BWHA JT1 Premiers 20

BOYS’ SECTION REPORT Junior Boys saw a new VP for 2019 with Tony Dodd stepping into the role.

Membership numbers reduced again, and we were only able to field four boys teams this season and unfortunately lost our under 11 team. Many of the boys once again played up an age group or division, and we saw a few actively playing up in seniors. Thanks to those who did that and kept the teams on the field.

All four teams had a great year, 13’s and J2 finished in the top 4 and J1 took out the premiership. Great job boys!

Many of our boys represented this year throughout the age divisions and a full list of these players is further on in this report. A great achievement by all.

All our coaches put in a tremendous effort and time to help our boys develop and we thank them all for their time and enthusiasm.

Also, to the parents that stepped up to manage teams again this year (many of you returning), it is sincerely appreciated.

We would like to acknowledge the boys who, by age, have played their last game of junior’s proudly for Kedron Wavell Services Hockey Club. Thanks for your commitment to the development of our junior boys’ section and we look forward to watching you enjoy your hockey full-time in the senior ranks.

TEAM AWARDS Many of the traditional accolades are designed to recognise individual players. This year, the club introduced new team awards.

Hockey is all about teamwork, our club is all about teamwork and to quote Rudyard Kipling: For the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack.

With this firmly in mind, we developed three new team trophies for each section:

 Best Attacking Senior/Junior Team determined by the highest average number of goals scored per game.  Best Defensive Senior/Junior Team determined by the lowest average goals conceded per game; and  Best All-round Senior/Junior Team determined through the highest average goal difference per game.

Average goals, rather than total goals, were used given the different number of rounds across the various competitions.

It was, in fact, quite enlightening to run the calculations across the club – because what we discovered was that the single best indicator of a finish in the finals was a goals conceded average of less than one per game. So, all the defensive units in the club should take note of what you really mean to team success. But, on to the awards.…

Best Junior Attacking Team This was a very close call between boys and girls. In the Boys’ Section J1 was the best, with an average of 2.6 a game to finish 2nd overall in the junior Club on averages.

However, they were pipped on attacking averages by our top girls’ team with an average of 2.75 goals a game so the inaugural ‘Best Junior Attacking Team’ winners are JT1.

Best Junior Defensive Team This one was even closer between boys and girls - for the Boys’ Section again the J1 team were at a very respectable 0.95 goals conceded per game. However, the Wolves Girls had three teams who bettered that average – JT1, JG1 and JG2.

The lowest actual number of goals conceded with a defensive average of just 0.43 goals conceded per game so the inaugural ‘Best Junior Defensive Team’ winners are JG1.

Best Junior All-round Team In the all-round team performances, it was a very tight finish between the two sections again. The boys again delivered a credible result averaging a 1.65 goal difference for the J1 team, BUT the girls trumped this AGAIN, and the team combining their best junior attacking average with the second best defensive average to outscore their opposition by more than 2.3 goals per game across the season; and without doubt deserve their crown as the inaugural ‘Best Junior All-round Team’ trophy winners, JT1.

Best Attacking Senior Team This year on the men’s side of the ledger, our Division 1 Men’s team netted 64 goals for the season giving them an average of 3.6 per game, seeing them finish 3rd overall for the senior club.

On the women’s side of the club two teams saw a greater average than that. Our Division 3 women’s team were able slot 82 goals this season to average of 3.7 goals a game.

Our very best attacking team this season scored 71 goals this year, averaging them out to 3.9 goals per game.

Congratulations to our Division 1 Women who are our inaugural ‘Best Senior Attacking Team’.

29

Best Defensive Senior Team The best defence for the Men was our Men’s Masters 3 team, at a very respectable 0.80 goals conceded per game (just 16 for the season of 20 games). A special mention to keeper (and Junior Boys Vice President) Tony Dodd, who had a clean net in shootouts in the Grand Final to secure the premiership for Masters 3.

However, the senior women had four teams who bettered that average – Divisions 2, 3, 4 and 5 all conceding 13 or less goals in the season. When it comes down to the maths, while our Women’s Division 5 team conceding just 11 in 18 games (an average of 0.61) our Women’s Division 3, beat them by a wolf’s whisker, 13 goals conceded in 22 games, including a clean sheet in the last 9 games of the regular season, returning a defensive average of just 0.59 goals conceded per game. Congratulations to our Division 3 Women.

In the all-round team performances, the Men again delivered a credible result with the Men’s Division 6 team delivering an average goal difference of better than 1 per game – averaging a 1.6 goal difference.

However, the Women trumped this again with four teams doing better than a goal a game, with Women’s Division 1 returning a neat 3.0 goal difference per game for their season … BUT, they were pipped at the post by an outstanding combination of the highest total goals in the season and the best defensive record – the Women’s Division 3 team who outscored their opposition by more than 3.1 goals per game across the season; and without doubt deserve their crown as the inaugural ‘Best Senior All-round Team’ trophy winners.
