Bill was a loved life member, supporter and worker of the City United/Kedron Wavell Hockey Club for many years. Many will remember Bill and his wife, Helen (also a valued life member), sitting on the hill near the shed at Burringbar Park cheering on his beloved red and white Wolves. Bill was also a manager and friend of the Division 1 ladies’ team for many years. The strength of the wolf pack was evident by the number of members who attended Bill’s funeral, all wearing red and white. It was an impressive sight to see and clearly showed how much he was loved and respected. A quiet gentleman, Bill will be missed by all. 7 20/40 YEAR MEDAL RECIPIENTS 20 Year Medals 2006 2009 2016 Alyson Aleksic Robert McDonald James Treeby Andre Antony Wendy LaChuisa Toby Hamilton Ajit Bhullar Jim Hamilton John Davis Greg Buzza Danielle Phillips Shane Carroll Arthur Davis 2010 2017 Karen Davis Cheryl Bell Jacob Jennison Jan Hamilton Kathryn Badini Glen James 2011 Adam McClelland Ian Jones Amanda Gray Daniell Gregory Alan Kerr Rosanna Pappalardo Jana Plambeck Lorraine Morris Ian Murray 2012 2018 Michelle O’Brien Katie Dunlop Belle Davis Bruno Rossaro Kim Rivers Allison Dewar Piero Rossaro Kerrie Haines Doug Ward 2014 Diana Young Peter Blackford 2019 Christine Blanchard Leslie Anderson 2007 Kylie Pink Melissa Harcla Lee-Ann Perry Natalie Andrea Caeleigh Hancock 2015 Alyssa Kerr Peter Beaton Kate Oudenryn 2008 Alan Gough 40 Year Medals 2016 Ian Harcla 2019 Alyson Aleksic Andre Antony 8 TREASURER’S REPORT This Treasurer’s report and the audited Financial Statements that are part of this Annual Report are prepared on a cash accounting basis. All sections had full fees paid within 2019 which is a commendable effort. Men’s outstanding fees for 2018 have slightly decreased by $330.00. *Canteen - Accounting L of $2,384.59 (Invoices paid outside the FY, noted above) - Actual Profit $7,063.62 to be distributed to sections - Sales increased 1.5% from 2018 - EFTPOS sales continue to increase to well above 40% of sales BALANCE SHEET Net assets of The Club have again increased in 2019 to $174,363.51 up from $146,548.46 in 2018. As noted above various expenses have been paid within the 2019 Financial Year. A long term loan of $100,000 to BHMG to facilitate BP2 development, being repaid over 10 years. The Hockey Pro Shop has incurred a loss of $935 which included an invoice from 2018FY, there is now the stock of $11,889 for the 2020 season. Sales up 8.8% from 2018, we expect further growth within the 2020 season with bigger indoor hockey sales. PayPal for the shop has ceased however we have an EFTPOS terminal and Stripe through the website. All sections within the club are now invoicing through MYOB allowing members to pay via direct deposit or Credit Card, this will continue in 2020. The canteen continues to utilise the EFTPOS and the percentage of customers paying via credit card continues to lift. Amanda Paech (CPA, B. Com) Treasurer 9 LIFE MEMBER The greatest honour a Club can bestow on a member is that of Life Membership. This year, we recognised John Davis as a Life Member. John is a wolf to the core, a proud club person who has worked tirelessly to further the future of this great club. John first joined our ranks in the 1990s and while he is a player with the club, he has also achieved representative honours at Brisbane, Queensland and Australian levels. But it is his work off the field where his contribution is really noticed. John has made significant personal contributions to the men's side of the club which has seen that section go from strength to strength. Building networks and partnerships wherever he goes, John's work with our major sponsor, the Kedron Wavell Services Club, has ensured continued funding to support the club. John was integral in securing the funding for the replacement of the turf on Burringbar Park Field 1 following the collapse of ShawSportz and then he obtained the funding required for the second turf. He's been Club President since 2011 and it gives us great pleasure to honour John as our newest Life Member. Jenny Tidey OAM, John Davis and Ian Harcla 10 PRESIDENT’S REPORT Well, wasn’t this the year! The Wolves have, finally, nailed a Division 1 premiership … and it went to a great team and great coach. It was even more pleasing to see so many of the team – and the coach - go on to win the inaugural Hockey 1 season in the Brisbane Blaze. Just as wonderful was seeing the Juniors nail the double J1 premierships … just the second time in the Club history … and a shout out here to (Life Member) Karen and Courtney Davis, who completed a mum and daughter double across those two years of double premierships. I was really pleased sharing the celebration of that win with so many of the Club with at another great end-of-season Junior’s presentation afternoon. The year’s achievements were well and truly capped off with the opening of the second artificial turf field at Burringbar, with the new grass field set to bring home grass training in 2020 (a huge YES!!) and give us a top quality grass playing surface. I’m sure we’re all looking forward to a Club Day in 2020 that allows us to get the DP teams to come out and play at the same venue as the turf teams. It’s worth noting again the tremendous support we received for this facility from Brisbane City Council and we are once again incredibly grateful for the support of our local Councillor, Cr Fiona Hammond. In 2020, thanks to the support of the State Government and our local member Dr Anthony Lynham, we’re going to see the construction of a second set of change rooms at this field, which will also serve the grass field.
