Once again, we have: • Conducted hockey fixture competitions for juniors, seniors and masters, at five turf venues and two grass venues, for over 3,300 registered players. Player numbers have again remained static in both junior and senior divisions, but with a noticeable decrease in U7 Rookies. We need to put some significant effort into understanding the how and why of this decrease and identify ways to address in the coming year. • Sent 19 teams to compete at State Championships for Super League, U18, U15, U13 and Masters, as well as 4 teams competing in the U11 Southern Cross at Downey Park. The ability of these teams is evident in that top two placings were achieved in nine of the fifteen divisions. • Continued with the practice of asking clubs to nominate the senior turf divisions they wish to play in, as well as not setting a limit on the number of dual registered players in a club. This has seen two clubs, South West United and QUT, fielding combined teams in the Division 1 and 2 divisions to enable them to retain players in these divisions. Whilst first year success on the field was limited, it has enabled both clubs to provide a pathway to top grade divisions for their developing players. We have established a sixth division for senior turf to accommodate club requests, on the expectation that the extra turf at Burringbar would become available during the season to accommodate the increase in teams. Whilst the second turf was not completed in time for games to be played there, it will be ready for 2020. We continue to work with Brisbane Hockey Association (BHA) to administer Hockey Brisbane Inc, and with BHA and Kedron Wavell Services Hockey Club (KWSHC) to administer the Brisbane Hockey Management Group (BHMG), which manages the Burringbar turf facility. The second turf has been completed and the remaining grass field remediated. Work is now underway to construct the technical bench and dugouts thanks to a State Government facility grant.

The sporting field is where friendships are formed, life skills are learned and heroes are made — and this is why in 2013–14 the Australian Government invested almost $120 million in our national sporting organisations despite a challenging economic environment. In the past year the ASC has worked with sports to reform their governance structures and develop strategic and commercial capabilities. The ASC is determined to create better businesses — ones that will thrive in the years ahead — and we are leading the way with a lean and agile operating model and ongoing commitment to our own good governance. One of the highlights of 2013–14 was the Australian Government’s announcement of the Sporting Schools program. This $100 million program, which builds upon the successful Active After-school Communities program, will commence in 2015 and reach more than 850,000 children.

Kudos to the social committee & all who assisted. The committee members have continued to spend a lot of time on the proposed pavilion redevelopment. Greg Purser especially continues to be heavily involved in attending meetings, hosting site visits & liaising with council. The proposal went out to tender in October & at the time of writing is expected to be awarded in late November 2019, with build dates estimated as March 2020 to February 2021. It is a very exciting time for the club with the end result being a fantastic community hockey facility to make the short-term pain worthwhile. The new uniform becomes compulsory across the club in 2020. Many players are already sporting the new uniform & we looking forward to seeing the new design at all levels.

Peter Bell and his performance team for their tireless work in ensuring the success of our representative players and teams. Over the shortened reporting period, we have had a number of items to note. Our organisation is supported through funding from the Queensland Government which is critical to the development As a Board, we have endeavoured to ensure the sport keeps and growth at all levels of the sport. I thank the Government moving forward in the right direction, and after a substantial and all other partners for their ongoing contribution and period of instability and change, we have been able to take support. some considerable steps forward. The organisation is well-led by our Chief Executive Officer We are building a culture aimed to unite, inspire and grow, and Jamie O’Connor, who along with his dedicated staff, provides this will be our mantra as we head into the next strategic cycle. a strong platform to deliver an inclusive sport for all to enjoy. I thank them for their tireless work. There were many highlights on the field during this period, most notably the Cowboys Men claiming the Elite 8 title again at the I congratulate all players, officials, administrators and all National Touch League (NTL), making it four years in a row involved or associated with our sport on a successful period, for Queensland-based teams.
