We also thank guest graphic consultant, Larissa Regala for her able assistance in compiling this edition of The Directory. 2 INTRODUCTION Who Should Use This Directory The Foundation Directory of Resources for International Food and Nutrition Dietetics Professionals is designed for use by practitioners, graduates with Baccalaureate (or equivalent), or Graduate degrees in nutrition (biomedical), food, dietetics, public health, agriculture, foodservice management, food science, food science technology, and related areas. Individuals pursuing a professional degree may use this directory, or professionals who are seeking continuing education, training or work experience nationally or internationally. Contact information and general guidelines for numerous organizations that offer financial assistance for studies in the United States of America (USA) and other countries are provided. How to Use the Directory The Foundation Directory of Resources for International Food and Nutrition Dietetics Professionals was created to simplify the process of seeking financial assistance for international students and professionals by organizing food, nutrition, dietetics and other related resources and contact information in one source. This Directory is divided into six sections. The first section lists those organizations that provide resources to American students and professionals. The second section lists the organizations that provide financial assistance to individuals of any nationality studying or gaining practice experience in the USA, and in other countries. The third section lists resources available to nationals of specific (non-USA) countries for studying in their home country and/or abroad. The fourth section lists other resources that are useful when searching for financial assistance or work experience abroad, such as international education organizations, literature (hardcopy and electronic), internet access to information, and online networking opportunities. The fifth section lists groups associated with the Academy, including Member Interest Groups (MIGs), Dietetic Practice Groups (DPGs), and the Academy’s International Affiliate Organization. The sixth and final section lists international nutrition and dietetic associations as a source of contact for nationals of specific countries. The goal of this project has been to provide information as complete and accurate as possible about the organizations and agencies listed in this Directory. Where applicable, we have provided the address, telephone and/or fax number, and web site of the 3 organizations or agency, (the links of certain websites may require direct placement into the web browser for information retrieval) the contact person, areas of study, eligibility requirements and deadlines. Please note that The Foundation Directory of Resources for International Food and Nutrition Dietetics Professionals is not an exhaustive listing because the database is very extensive and ever changing. We, therefore, encourage nutrition students and professionals who are seeking financial assistance to explore other directories and other possible avenues to assist with funding opportunities. To conduct a search, award seekers should use a variety of keywords including; ‘nutrition,’ ‘food’ and ‘dietetics.’ Additional resources may be found under ‘agriculture’, ‘agricultural science,’ ‘human’ and ‘health sciences’, ‘family’ and ‘consumer sciences,’ ‘biomedical nutrition,’ ‘public health,’ ‘community nutrition.’ We encourage any and all readers to give us feedback about The Foundation Directory of Resources for International Food and Nutrition Dietetics Professionals. Should, you discover scholarships, fellowships, grants and/or awards that may be suitable for this directory during your research for funding, we would be grateful for your contribution toward our efforts in maintaining the most current information. The quality, effectiveness and resourcefulness of this Directory will be preserved with your help. • See Food Innovation with a Whole New Lens
See food innovation with a whole new lens. Virtual Event and Expo July 13-15, 2020 iftevent.org 1 SHIFT20 Program Overview Food innovation is evolving at a rapid pace, consumer perceptions are evolving, and the IFT community is leading the way. Accelerating the science of food and technology to sustainably feed and nourish the world’s population is the mission of IFT and nowhere is this more evident than when we come together through IFT20s virtual experience to share, imagine, and collectively solve challenges impacting our global food supply. But in order to do this, we need to approach innovation differently, we need to challenge the status quo, and we need to cross disciplines to gain new insights and shift our thinking to bring the world better food. IFT20 is where this shift begins. 2 Featured Speakers April Rinne Monday, July 13 SHIFT20 Virtual Event and Expo will kick off with a thought- provoking keynote address with April Rinne, member of the World Economic Forum, speaker, writer, and authority on the new economy, future of work, and global citizenship. The world is changing, and April has spent her career making sense of these changes from the perspective of a trusted advisor, advocate, thought leader and lifelong global citizen. With more than 20 years and 100 countries of experience at the 50-yard line of emerging innovation, April brings a keen eye towards where the world is heading with no greater purpose than to help build a brighter tomorrow. In this keynote April will explore the critical role that food science, emerging technologies, and the food industry will need to play in addressing food security in the face of our current pandemic times and global climate change.

  • LARSON-DISSERTATION-2020.Pdf
THE NEW “OLD COUNTRY” THE KINGDOM OF YUGOSLAVIA AND THE CREATION OF A YUGOSLAV DIASPORA 1914-1951 BY ETHAN LARSON DISSERTATION Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in History in the Graduate College of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2020 Urbana, Illinois Doctoral Committee: Professor Maria Todorova, Chair Professor Peter Fritzsche Professor Diane Koenker Professor Ulf Brunnbauer, University of Regensburg ABSTRACT This dissertation reviews the Kingdom of Yugoslavia’s attempt to instill “Yugoslav” national consciousness in its overseas population of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, as well as resistance to that same project, collectively referred to as a “Yugoslav diaspora.” Diaspora is treated as constructed phenomenon based on a transnational network between individuals and organizations, both emigrant and otherwise. In examining Yugoslav overseas nation-building, this dissertation is interested in the mechanics of diasporic networks—what catalyzes their formation, what are the roles of international organizations, and how are they influenced by the political context in the host country. The life of Louis Adamic, who was a central figure within this emerging network, provides a framework for this monograph, which begins with his arrival in the United States in 1914 and ends with his death in 1951. Each chapter spans roughly five to ten years. Chapter One (1914-1924) deals with the initial encounter between Yugoslav diplomats and emigrants. Chapter Two (1924-1929) covers the beginnings of Yugoslav overseas nation-building. Chapter Three (1929-1934) covers Yugoslavia’s shift into a royal dictatorship and the corresponding effect on its emigration policy.
