hether you are seeking a new or deeper relationship with God, are an inactive Catholic, or a semi-active Catholic, or even a missionary disciple, the Diocese of Brooklyn provides many Wopportunities to learn and grow in faith . While many faith formation courses are offered online through My Catholic Faith Delivered, they are also offered locally for people of all ages, along with small and large group gatherings such as RENEW, Living the Eucharist, various Bible study offerings, as well as annual diocesan sponsored Convocations and Congresses . By actively joining in the celebration of the Eucharist, the Sacraments, Holy Hours, novenas, processions, retreats and days or evenings of reflection, and other liturgical practices already taking place in parishes and our Catholic schools and academies in Brooklyn and Queens, we grow in our love for and knowledge of Christ and His Church and invite others to do the same . As a baptized Catholic, called to be a missionary disciple, our goal is to be a bearer of the Good News found in the Gospels and an active evangelizer of others seeking an understanding of our Catholic faith .

I encourage you to carefully read this School of Evangelization Guidebook and take advantage of the offerings provided for you, your family, and your friends . Find your local parish in Brooklyn or Queens by using the online parish locator (www .bqonlineformation .org) or become reconnected with your local par- ish if you have been away from the Church . Join a parish group, develop a family faith plan, participate in one or more of the events found at the end of this Guidebook, reflect on what will benefit your relationship with our loving God, and seek ways to begin or enhance your relationship with our loving God . I ask the Lord to extend His choicest blessings upon you and your loved ones, especially during this coming Year of Mercy . Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Ph .D ., D .D . Bishop of Brooklyn

The School of Evangelization joins together an array of persons and programs devoted to renewing our local church with the joy of the Gospel . Each one of the courses, conferences, and catechetical resources found in this Guidebook offers an opportunity to encounter Christ through the treasures of Scripture, Tradition, and theology practiced with the mind of the Church . This encounter always evokes joy because Christ is the love of God made flesh (cf . 1 John 4:16; John 1:14), and his loving presence has the power to heal wounded lives and promote a culture of encounter . Those involved in the SOE sponsored programs, as administrators and instructors, deserve the gratitude of the entire diocese for their hard work and courage to embrace new approaches to faith formation and theological education . I am proud to count as colleagues the lay leaders, consecrated women and men, and brother priests and deacons who engage in these ministries . May God use them as instruments for leading others to know and love Christ more deeply . Most Reverend James Massa, Ph .D ., D .D . Moderator of the Curia & Vicar for Evangelization

Welcome to the School of Evangelization!

This past year, the staff saw a tremendous increase in the number of individuals participating in the courses, events, and initiatives sponsored by the Diocesan School of Evangelization . At least 50% more people took part in nearly every major event! The Diocese of Brooklyn is a vibrant community of Catholics eager to grow in their faith, and share it . A new diocesan website meetmein church. , created by the DeSales Media Group, was launched on May 21, 2015 to assist individuals, families, and parish/ school/academy communities .

This School of EvangelizationGuidebook for the Catechetical/Pastoral Year 2015-2016, is divided into three parts for easy use: an overview of all resources and services available in the Diocese; a catalog of courses and workshops offered through theLiving and Leading by Faith Catechist and Catechetical Leader Formation Program; and the School of Evangelization Calendar and Directory . We have provided courses and events for those who are “seeking,” those who have been away from the Faith, those who are somewhat connected to the Faith, and those who actively participate in the life of the Church .

This is the first year of our four-year Diocesan plan called theJoy of Encountering Christ: the Family’s Hope. The six goals of this plan are: offer multiple opportunities for people to encounter Christ; increase full, active, and conscious participation in the Mass; increase daily prayer among all Catholics; attract and support inactive Catholics; enhance participation in parish life/religious education at all levels of Faith Formation; and invite and welcome seekers . Please go to meetmein church. for resources to assist you in actualizing these goals in your life . This year also coincides with Pope Francis’ visit to the United States to conclude with the Eighth Annual World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as well as the conclusion of the Year of Consecrated Life and the beginning of the Year of Mercy . Theodore J . Musco Executive Director, School of Evangelization Director, Office of Faith Formation
