Air New Zealand 15 March 2021: Flights from Niue to New Zealand are on sale now following the announcement of a one-way quarantine-free travel route https://www.airnewzealand.co.nz/media-releases from Niue to New Zealand.22 February: Air New Zealand trials global digital travel pass. 12 March 2021: Quarantine-free services to Sydney and Melbourne recommenced. 25 January 2021: From tomorrow, Air New Zealand will require the use of face masks on all international flights to and from New Zealand as a result of updated overseas government border requirements and as a further proactive safety measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19. 20 April 2021: There are additional changes to the requirements for international travel, effective from Tuesday 20 April. These changes will affect all passengers departing to Australia , as well as to Singapore , Hong Kong , Manila and any other Air Niugini international destinations. All passengers departing internationally will be required to be tested for Covid-19 at time of check-in. This is in addition to the requirement for the negative PCR test conducted within three days of travel. International SOS have been contracted to conduct this test (at no cost to the passenger), and will be conducting this testing at the car park next to the International Terminal (between the terminal and the plaza area).     Pacific Studies Series About Oceanic Voyages: Aviation in the Pacific International aviation services are crucial to trade, growth, and development in the Pacific region. Improved access provided by international aviation from every other region in the world to an increasing number of islands is opening new opportunities. Tourism contributes substantially to income and employment in many Pacific countries, usually in areas outside of the main urban centers, and enables air freight services for valuable but perishable commodities that would otherwise not be marketable. Although some features of the Pacific region make provision of international aviation services a challenge, there have also been some notable successes that offer key lessons for future development. Case studies of national aviation sector experience show the value of operating on commercial principles, attracting international and OCEANIC V private-sector capital investment, assigning risk where it can best be managed, and liberalizing market access. Integration of the regional market for transport services, combined with harmonized but less restrictive regulations, would facilitate a greater range of services at more competitive prices. Pacific island country governments have the ability to create effective operating environments. When they do so, experience O shows that operators will respond with efficient service provision. From an old Pirate sea shanty. -oOo- The Republic of Nauru is a tiny once phosphate rich atoll - Jepessen chart co-ordinates S0032.7, E16655.1. When I was there in 1980, it was the home of Air Nauru with its three Boeing 737-200s and two 727-100s. It takes just half an hour at easy speed to drive around the island, passing battered Land Rovers cruising slowly in both directions, rap and heavy metal music blaring from a dozen amplifiers. Powerful motor bikes take to the roads, their crouching owners oblivious to the presence of island graveyards with their dusty headstones marking the final resting place of so many of these alcohol fuelled young motor-cycle riders, and reflecting a national tragedy. The sealed runway is 5700 feet long and thirty-foot drops into the ocean at A Vol 49 Page 16 each end make a deadly stop-way.
