This paper is a brief update on aircraft equipage 2 Airlines detected 2.1 The following Aircraft Operators have been detected by Australian ADS-B ground stations: QANTAS, Virgin Blue, Jetstar, Emirates, Air New Zealand, Pacific Blue Eva Air, Virgin Atlantic, Asiana, Vietnam, Malaysian, British Airways Singapore Airlines Cargo, Thai, Korean, Air Mauritius, Air China, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, UPS Airlines, QANTASLink (Sunstate), Sunshine Express, Royal Flying Doctor Service, Bundy Flying School, Sunshine Coast Rescue Helicopters 3 Aircraft types detected 3.1 The following aircraft types have been detected: B747, B767, B737, B777, A320, A330, A340, B200, SH36, DHC8, BK17, B206, J200 4 Statement by Cathay Pacific Airlines 4.1 Cathay Pacific Airlines advised Airservices Australia, and authorised the release of the following: “I can confirm that CX has a program in place to equip all its aircraft with ADS-B before the end of 2005. This is obviously subject to the usual engineering constraints, but so far we are on target to meet the year end deadline for completion. We are quite happy that this information be published ….. ” 5 Statement by United Airlines 5.1 As the ISPACG meeting in Brisbane, United Airlines advised that they would equip all their international aircraft with ADS-B out. -

Aviation in the Pacific International Aviation Services Are Crucial to Trade, Growth, and Development in the Pacific Region
Pacific Studies Series About Oceanic Voyages: Aviation in the Pacific International aviation services are crucial to trade, growth, and development in the Pacific region. Improved access provided by international aviation from every other region in the world to an increasing number of islands is opening new opportunities. Tourism contributes substantially to income and employment in many Pacific countries, usually in areas outside of the main urban centers, and enables air freight services for valuable but perishable commodities that would otherwise not be marketable. Although some features of the Pacific region make provision of international aviation services a challenge, there have also been some notable successes that offer key lessons for future development. Case studies of national aviation sector experience show the value of operating on commercial principles, attracting international and OCEANIC V private-sector capital investment, assigning risk where it can best be managed, and liberalizing market access. Integration of the regional market for transport services, combined with harmonized but less restrictive regulations, would facilitate a greater range of services at more competitive prices. Pacific island country governments have the ability to create effective operating environments. When they do so, experience O shows that operators will respond with efficient service provision. From an old Pirate sea shanty. -oOo- The Republic of Nauru is a tiny once phosphate rich atoll - Jepessen chart co-ordinates S0032.7, E16655.1. When I was there in 1980, it was the home of Air Nauru with its three Boeing 737-200s and two 727-100s. It takes just half an hour at easy speed to drive around the island, passing battered Land Rovers cruising slowly in both directions, rap and heavy metal music blaring from a dozen amplifiers. Powerful motor bikes take to the roads, their crouching owners oblivious to the presence of island graveyards with their dusty headstones marking the final resting place of so many of these alcohol fuelled young motor-cycle riders, and reflecting a national tragedy. Getting to Majuro, Republic of the Marshall Islands Airport • Majuro is served by the Amata Kabua International Airport with the call letters MAJ . • Airport Tax: A departure fee of $20.00 U.S. is required except for children less than 12 years old and adults over 60 years old. Airlines The two main airlines servicing the Marshall Islands from abroad are: • United Airlines. United operates between Asia and Honolulu and provides a connection to the Marshall Islands in both directions on what is affectionately named the “Island Hopper”. The route is Honolulu direct to Majuro (4.5 hours), or Guam to Majuro with four quick “hops” (8 hours). • Nauru Airlines. Nauru Airlines operates between Australia and the Marshall Islands and also connects with Nauru and Kiribati. Immigration • U.S., Palau, and FSM Citizens are exempt from Visas with a valid Passport. • A 30-day visa-on-arrival will be granted for citizens of Australia and New Zealand, Canada, European Union (includes United Kingdom), South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines with the proper paperwork. • All others should use the following procedure: 1. Generally, an application for a visa should consist of the following: i. Completed application form (with two recent passport size photos) ii. Passport (valid for at least 6 months) iii. Supporting documents: (i) Letter from applicant – stating the purpose and duration of visit (ii) Police record – must be dated within last 3 months (iii) Health clearance – must show person is free from HIV/AIDS and TB; dated within last 3 months (iv) Receipt – to show payment of application fee 2.
