BC Former Students Association Alumni Spotlight Shane Pirtle July 2016 BC Former Students Association Alumni Spotlight Shane Pirtle Shane Pirtle believes that community involvement is one of the most important things one can do. He’s made a habit of sharing his time with organizations such as The Boys & Girls Club, Faith in Action and Habitat for Humanity, to name a few. He’s also well known for his tenure as mayor of Lake Jackson, as well as his service to other city organizations. No doubt, Shane is a community leader. He’s also a Brazosport College graduate. A 1973 Brazoswood High School graduate, Shane earned two degrees from BC, an Associate of Elective Studies and an Associate of Applied Science in in Electronic Technologies. He also earned his degrees the hard way, working during the day and taking evening classes as many as four nights a week until his goal was accomplished. “I always tell kids to go to college now,” Shane said. “Do what you can before you’re tied down. It was tough, but I fortunately had some good support.” Shane is not only a BC alumni and a member of the school’s Former Students Association, he’s also a huge supporter of his local college. “This is a great college and I love it,” he said. “It’s a huge advantage to this community. It always has been and it will continue to be. It’s wonderful to see the college continue to grow.” Shane contributes to the BC Foundation and takes pride in being able to assist students in receiving a college education. “To me, it’s about giving back to those who can’t afford to get here by themselves,” he said. “I count my blessings that I had the support I did, but not everybody has those means. Through the foundation we can provide scholarships or opportunities to others.” Today, Shane is married to his wife of 27 years, Linda. He has three children. He retired from Dow Chemical Company in 2007 after a 30-year career. Although he is enjoying his retirement and spending time with his family, Shane plans on always being involved within his community, as well as his college. To him, community involvement is simply a way of life. “It’s part of who I am,” Shane said. “It’s extremely important to be involved and to give back to your community — to help other people. As a Christian, we’re supposed to help other people.” For more information about Brazosport College, call (979) 230-3000. To learn more about the Brazosport College Foundation, call (979) 230-3234. Zachry Group puts a special focus on corporate citizenship, on making tangible improvements in communities where our employees live and work,” said Tinsley Smith, Zachry Group’s director of Community Investment & Philanthropy. “With this contribution to the college foundation, we are excited to provide scholarships and support learning opportunities for Brazoria County students.” Zachry Group is one of the largest industrial contractors in the nation. Headquartered in San Antonio, the company provides engineering, construction, maintenance and specialty services to customers, primarily in the energy, petrochemical and process market segments. Zachry is the contractor-of-choice for designing, building and maintaining power, chemical and petrochemical plants throughout the United States. Gulf Coast Scientists recently presented a $2,000 check to Brazosport College to be used toward chemical technology scholarships. The scholarship will assist students making consistent progress toward a degree or certificate in the chemical technology field. • Z Archeologii Mediów : "Dynastia" I "Koło Fortuny"
Ktoś go usłyszał (pozaziemska cywilizacja?) i odesłał z powrotem zszokowanym naukowcom. To filmowy obraz archeologii obrazu telewizyjnego i fal dźwiękowych i wizja aktualizowania dawnego przekazu medialnego we współczesności.

  • The Reception of Dynasty
6 The Reception of Dynasty For a moment in the mid-198os the television serial Dynasty ceased being merely a program and took on the proportions of a major mass cultural cult. This phenomenon has been widely interpreted as repre senting the acquiescence of the mass audience to the Reaganite ide ology of greed and asocial avarice. But the response of the so-called masses to Dynasty was far more complex than a mere affirmation of the worst of Reaganism. This chapter will analyze the response to Dy nasty as a complex phenomenon that has aspects ofboth commodifi cation from above and subcultural activation from below.! For al though Dynasty was the number one rated program overall in the 1984 -1985 TV season, its fans were not simply a mass audience, but rather were clustered in two quadrants of a male/female, gay/straight combinatoire-that is to say, the two groups that became obsessed with Dynasty in the mid-1980s were gay men and heterosexual women. These are, precisely, the two groups most connected to commodified beauty culture, to notions of femininity as a commodity to be pur chased. They are also groups that have been considered to possess dis tinct «subcultural" identities vis-a-vis a dominant straight white male culture. In the case of gay men, the subcultural identity depends on their outsider status to the patriarchal family; in the case of women, radical feminist thinking has stressed the extent to which all women constitute a separate culture or subculture within patriarchal society. Thus it seems significant that neither lesbians nor straight men as a group were especially caught up in the Dynasty craze.

MASCULINITY IN AMERICAN TELEVISION FROM CARTER TO CLINTON by Bridget Kies A Dissertation Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in English at The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee May 2018 ABSTRACT MASCULINITY IN AMERICAN TELEVISION FROM CARTER TO CLINTON by Bridget Kies The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, 2018 Under the Supervision of Professor Tasha Oren This dissertation examines American television during a period I call the long 1980s. I argue that during this period, television became invested in new and provocative images of masculinity on screen and in networks’ attempts to court audiences of men. I have demarcated the beginning and ending of the long 1980s with the declaration of Jimmy Carter as Time magazine’s Man of the Year in 1977 and Bill Clinton’s inauguration in 1993.

Title: “This is our Dynasty.” How the characters in Soap Opera Dynasty have changed over time with focus on sex, gender, sexuality, ethnicity and power. When the Soap Opera Dynasty first appeared in the 80´s it was not so popular as Dallas or Falcon Crest. But the aim of Dynasty was to do things more provocative. Thus, one character was homosexual, one was a “bitch”, and there was more focus on the females. The characters lived a luxury life with much drama, love, and expectations. After one season it became increasingly popular and was awarded several times. In 1989 Dynasty ended after nine seasons, and in 2016 news about a reboot was appeared on the CW and Netflix. The producers of the reboot chosed to take the best pieces of the originals and make a modern twist on the new version; there were new actors with the same characters, except that they now chosed to change certain characters regarding sex, ethnicity and sexuality. The aim of this study is to compare the original with the reboot and se how the characters have changed over time with focus on sex, gender, sexuality, ethnicity and power; and also, to relate these alterations to societal change.

FREE CHRISTMAS AT CARRINGTONS PDF Alexandra Brown | 384 pages | 24 Nov 2015 | HarperCollins Publishers | 9780007488254 | English | London, United Kingdom Jual Buku Christmas At Carrington's oleh Alexandra Brown - Gramedia Digital Indonesia When she was just four years old, Carrington Craig went with her mother to visit her great aunt in the Christmas at Carringtons. While they were there, Carrington spotted a child in a wheelchair and she asked her mom, Shelly, if Santa would come down the chimney for the boys and girls at the hospital. The night of the shindig, she stood at the front door holding a black garbage to collect the goodies. That Christmas, Carrington delivered 70 toys to the boy in the hospital, who shared his bounty with the other patients in the pediatric unit. And so it began. Over the past seven years, the toy Christmas at Carringtons has grown exponentially. Carrington, now 11, and her mother begin collecting toys and donations in October, not just for the little ones but also for teenagers. The rationale behind that is that most of the time people give food at Thanksgiving but of course people are hungry year-round. They break up the two-hour event into manageable segments so as to not fatigue the patients, starting with a minute Christmas at Carringtons of songs, then providing food and games, then a raffle, followed by another set of singing. The event concludes with toy distribution. They collect toys of all kinds, including robots, board games, learning Christmas at Carringtons, babies and baby items — anything wipeable to keep germs at bay.
