Ecuador: Earthquake Flash Update: Aftershocks Muisne canton, Esmeraldas province as of 11 July, 2016 Since the initial earthquake of April 16th, have been around 2,145 aftershocks in the country. Yesterday, in Muisne canton, Esmeraldas province, there were two strong aftershocks with a magnitude of 5.9 and 6.3 on the Richter scale. These were felt in 13 provinces (IGEPN, 11 July 2016). The President has announced a new State of Exception; the decree will be released in the following days (Presidency of Ecuador). In Muisne canton, Esmeraldas province, before the two aftershocks, there were six state shelters with 1,948 persons (MICS, 24 June, 2016). According to the Camp Coordination and Camp Management sector’s Round3 of Displacement Tracking MatriX, there are 4.425 persons in different types of shelters (CCCM- DTM Round 3 10-29 June, 2016). Due to the aftershocks, 80 persons have been relocated to two Muisne camps (Muisne I and Muisne III) and 12 newly arrived persons are in the shelter Dalia Perdomo (Secretary of Risk Management, Report No.3: 11-07-2016). The following cantons of the Esmeraldas province were left without power and Souce: El Comercio 11/07/2016 phone services: Atacames, Tonsupa, Same, Esmeraldas and Muisne. Services are slowly being reestablished. The Bailey bridge in Estero Ancho on the road to Sua has been affected. School has been suspended in Esmeraldas and Manabí provinces for infrastructure assessments (SGR Report No.3, 11-07-2016). Both the provincial and cantonal emergency operation committees have been activated.
