Situation Report Adamawa State Ministry of Health TTITLE COVID-19 Situation Report SERIAL NUMBER 12 EPID-WEEK 18 DATE 4th May, 2020 Highlights • 6 new cases were confirmed (5 in Mubi North LGA and 1 case in Lamurde LGA) • 16 alerts were received and 12 were investigated • 2 new samples were collected from suspected cases • 4 out of 6 confirmed cases were taken into treatment Epidemiological summary As at 4th May 2020, 114 suspected cases have been reported. 10 confirmed positive, (Mubi South 2; Mubi North 4; Hong 1; Lamurde 1; Yola North 1; Yola South 1); 44 negatives and 58 pending. 2 samples tested require retesting. Map of Adamawa State showing LGAs with confirmed COVID-19 cases as at May 2020 2 | P a g e Coordination: • Coordination meeting holding daily at the State level • LGR RRT meetings are being held in LGAs with confirmed cases. • Engagement with the Honorable Commissioner of Health for release of funds to support EOC activities and need to release a structure for establishment of EOC in Adamawa state • Engagement with surveillance and laboratory pillar for effective case identification and contact tracing in Adamawa state Surveillance: • 16 alerts were received and 12 were investigated • 2 new suspected cases were line listed after investigation • 8 contacts linked to one of the confirmed cases identified and line listed Case Management: • All newly confirmed cases were notified of their result • 3 of the newly confirmed cases were brought into the isolation/treatment center • Total number of confirmed cases on admission are 9. • All patients on admission are in stable condition. Infection Prevention and Control • A planning meeting for sensitization of proprietors of private clinics and health workers in primary and secondary health facilities on IPC was conducted. Risk Communication/Social Mobilization • 32 people in Liringi Kohi and Mbilla settlements in Mayo Belwa LGA were sensitized on COVID-19 preventive measures and self-quarantine following the investigation of a returnee from Lagos to the village • Toungo LGA inaugurated COVID-19 risk communication committee. • Radio discussions/phone-in programmes addressing stigmatization, stereotyping and COVID-19 prevention awareness is ongoing • Ongoing daily broadcast of 25 jingles per day in Radio Nigeria Fombina FM, 30 jingles per day by Gotel Radio; 10 jingles per day by ABC Ratio, 5 jingles per day by Pulaako FM and 5 TV jingles per day in Adamawa State Television. Laboratory • 10 Medical laboratory scientists were trained today in the following LGAs: Yola south, Fufore, Jada, Mayo Belwa, Numan, Lamurde and Guyuk. The state has trained 30 Medical laboratory Scientists so far across the 21 LGAs • 29 samples were transported for confirmation in NVRI, Vom, for the first time. POE • At Interstate borders across 9 LGAs of Adamawa State with Borno, Gombe and Taraba States, 23 passengers of interest were screened. • At the international borders with Cameroun in Mubi North, Mubi South, Maiha, Fufore, Jada and Toungo, 19 passengers of interest were screened. 3 | P a g e • None of the passengers had any symptoms suggestive of COVID-19 Challenges. • One of the confirmed cases was not seen today while another could not be transferred to the treatment centre today because of mechanical fault with the ambulance. • Some health workers do not have official pass to granting them passage through security checks during lockdown • Inadequate number of non-contact thermometers at point of entry • Challenge in investigating alerts at the LGA level because of lack of funding to support all alerts investigation • Inadequate PPEs in PHCs and secondary health facilities Next steps • Intensify search for the confirmed case that was not physically seen today • Follow up with the LGA RRTs in LGAs with confirmed cases to ensure all confirmed cases are transported to the treatment center • Discuss with the pillar head of logistics on the PPE stock, and how to get PPEs to the secondary health facilities • Conduct contact tracing and line listing of all contacts of confirmed cases 4 | P a g e .
