HOW DID ISLAND COAST GET OUR NAME?

Florida is known for many things; among them sunshine, warm temperatures and all those Florida . There are so many beaches, islands and coastal communities to choose from in Florida, that it became necessary to give these areas specific names in order to be able to distinguish between them all. So Jacksonville was given First Coast as it is the first coast many encounter when they enter Florida. COUNSELOR'S CORNER

HIGH SCHOOL GPA INFORMATION

What is a GPA? Student?s Grade Point Average is a way of measuring student?s academic achievement in high school. Student?s GPA is calculated by adding all the student?s final course grades by the number of courses taken. What classes count toward my GPA? ALL classes taken in high school effect a student?s GPA. Honors, AICE, and Dual Enrollment courses offer a higher weighted GPA than traditional courses. Why is GPA important? The minimum GPA required to graduate is a 2.0, but students with a higher GPA may qualify for academic scholarships and have a better chance of getting into the college of their choice. What are the other requirements for graduation? http:// www.fldoe.org/ core/ fileparse.php/ 7764/ urlt/ StandardDiplomaRequirements.pdf HOW DO I SUBMIT VOLUNTEER HOURS

COACH HICKS: NEWS PRESS COACH OF THE YEAR!

With all growth and improvement across our fall sports, the biggest spotlight was on the Island Coast Football team with new Head Coach Elgin Hicks at the helm.Despite the season being delayed, shuffled, and delayed again, it was abundantly clear that things surrounding the team were different in the best of ways.Coach Hicks and his staff started improving the team?s culture and our players rose to the challenge! The Island Coast football program, in one short challenging season, was able to lift up the school through their hard work, dedication, attitude, and ability. The standards set by the staff allowed them go from a 3-7 record in 2019 to a 6-4 2020 campaign that included a pair of playoff wins against Golden Gate and South Fort Myers. Coach Hicks? debut as the head man also earned him the well-deserved award of News-Press Coach of the Year. As we move forward with our winter season , the quality of coaches here at Island Coast coupled with a truly special group of students eager to learn, grow, and become not only better athletes, but better people has fostered a spark at the school. A spark that has ignited a fire of success that is spreading throughout the halls and into the classrooms, fields, and courts. Through the tough times, these Gator athletes and coaches have proven to be tough and resilient which will serve them well as they represent our home and community in the future. IT TRULY IS AN AMAZING TIME TO BE A GATOR!
