The last comprehensive list (Barrio-Amorós 2009c) included a total of 333 species, while the current catalogue lists 387 species (370 anurans, 10 caecilians, and seven salamanders), including 28 species not yet described or properly identified. Fifty species and four genera are added to the previous list, 25 species are deleted, and 47 experienced nomenclatural changes. -

Egg-brooding frogs ulei, F. tonimi, and F. izecksohni) that are endemic to the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. Although the genus has been Molecular phylogeny the subject of studies dealing with its taxonomy, phylogeny, and systematics, there is considerable evidence for Brazilian Atlantic Forest cryptic diversity hidden among the species. The present study aims to understand the genetic diversity and Species diversity phylogenetic relationships among the species of Fritziana, as well as the relationships among populations within New candidate species species. We analyzed 107 individuals throughout the distribution of the genus using three mitochondrial gene Mitochondrial gene rearrangements fragments (12S, 16S, and COI) and two nuclear genes (RAG1 and SLC8A3). Our data indicated that the species diversity in the genus Fritziana is underestimated by the existence of at least three candidate species hidden amongst the group of species with a closed dorsal pouch (i.e. F. fissilis and F. ulei). We also found four species presenting geographical population structures and high genetic diversity, and thus require further investigations. -

André Araujo 2936, 69011-970, Manaus – AM, Brazil. *Corresponding author: [email protected] The genus Chiasmocleis is distributed from Panama to southern South America and contains 21 recognized species (Frost 2007). Eight of them are associated with Amazonian rainforests (Frost 2007). However, only the larvae of four species and the vocalization of three species have been described for species occurring in this region (Nelson 1973; Duellman 1978; Zimmerman & Bogart 1988; Hero 1990; Schlüter & Salas 1991; Lescure & Marty 2000; Vera Candioti 2006). The tadpole of C. hudsoni has not been formally described; it was mentioned briefly (diagrammatic drawings and larval color notes) in Hero´s tadpole identification key from Central Amazonia (Hero 1990), as Chiasmocleis cf. ventri- maculata. In this paper we describe the tadpole and the vocalizations of C. hudsoni and also provide comments on the spawning sites, clutch size and breeding periods. We collected clutches and tadpoles of Chiasmocleis hudsoni in streamside ponds in January 2004 and from February to March 2005, at Reserva Florestal Adolpho Ducke (RFAD) (02o55’ and 03o01’S, 59o53’ and 59o59’W) in Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil. -

Annual Report 2012 Annual Report 2012 The Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund provides financial support to species conservation projects worldwide. In 2012, The Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund supported 217 projects in 75 countries with more than $1.5m. More than $1.36m was granted to species listed as Critically Endangered, Endangered, or Vulnerable by the IUCN Red List. Your Highness In 2012 the Fund has been able to greatly aid the global effort to conserve the diversity of life by continuing its success and giving $1.5m to more than 200 projects worldwide. Since its inception, the Fund has now disbursed more than $8.7m to targeted species conservation work, implemented through nearly 825 projects in more than 125 countries across six continents. The impact of the Fund continues to amaze me. Among the more than 200 projects supported in 2012, the financial support provided by the Fund helped train a pilot in Kenya who is now patrolling rhino habitat for poachers; it helped locate the breeding grounds of a sea bird previously thought to be extinct; it aided in the discovery of several new tree species in Mexico and many new species of spiders in India; it protected the habitat of a butterfly in Nepal and that of a cave-dwelling amphibian in Croatia. The stories of success are replicated across many species, in many locations across the globe. In 2012, the Fund received more than 1,500 grant applications – a statistic clearly indicating the global urgency of species conservation and the popularity of the Fund. -
