  • Word of God, Baptism, Eucharist in the Mission of the Church
WORD OF GOD, BAPTISM, EUCHARIST IN THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH “In calling upon all the faithful to proclaim God’s word, the Synod Fa- thers [of the 2008 General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops] restated the need in our day too for a decisive commitment to the missio ad gentes. In no way can the Church restrict her pastoral work to the ‘ordinary maintenance’ of those who already know the Gospel of Christ. Missionary outreach is a clear sign of the maturity of an ecclesial community. The Fathers also insisted that the word of God is the saving truth which men and women in every age need to hear. For this reason, it must be explicitly proclaimed. The Church must go out to meet each person in the strength of the Spirit (cf. 1 Cor 2:5) and continue her prophetic defense of people’s right and freedom to hear the word of God, while constantly seeking out the most effective ways of proclaiming that word, even at the risk of persecution. The Church feels duty-bound to proclaim to every man and woman the word that saves (cf. Rom 1:14)” (Pope Benedict XVI, Verbum Domini, 95). In the Old Testament, the Word prepares the way for the event of the Word becoming flesh. The New Testament’s Letter to the Hebrews be- gins precisely underlining this extreme dynamism of the Word: “In times past, God spoke in partial and various ways to our ancestors through the prophets; in these last days, he spoke to us through a son, whom he made heir of all things and through whom he created the universe” (Heb 1: 1-2).

“THE WORD OF GOD AND COMMITMENT IN THE WORLD” Sacred Scripture in the Life of the Church Madrid, 7-9 February 2011 INTRODUCTION : Your Eminence, My Lord Archbishops and Bishops, Very Rev. Fathers and all of you: my Brothers and Sisters in the one call to the discipleship of Jesus, I bring you the greetings and the prayerful wishes of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. I trust that your days here, reflecting on the Holy Scriptures as God’s word in the life of the Church, have been very fruitful. Although many versions of the Bible in Spanish already exist, 1 this has been an occasion for presenting the splendid new Biblia de la Conferencia Episcopal Española. 2 It is hoped that the great work that has gone into producing this version, enhancing its fidelity to original texts, will make it more “communicative with modern culture” and, so, help Christians live their commitments in the world. This morning, we would like to carry the reflection of the past few days further, if not conclude them, with a consideration of God’s Word in Scriptures not only as the source of life and nourishment of the Church, but also as the source and content of the Church’s very mission and activity in the world, indeed, the Church’s commitment in the world. 1 E.g., Reina-Valera , Biblia Traducción Interconfesional , Biblia Pastoral , Biblia Católica para Jóvenes , Biblia del Peregrino, La Biblia de las Américas, Biblia de América, Biblia Latinoamericana , etc. 2 Sagrada Biblia. • The Light from the Southern Cross’
A REPORT AND RECOMMENDATIONS ON THE GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT OF DIOCESES AND PARISHES IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IN AUSTRALIA IMPLEMENTATION ADVISORY GROUP AND THE GOVERNANCE REVIEW PROJECT TEAM REVIEW OF GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT OF DIOCESES AND PARISHES REPORT – STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL Let us be bold, be it daylight or night for us - The Catholic Church in Australia has been one of the epicentres Fling out the flag of the Southern Cross! of the sex abuse crisis in the global Church. But the Church in Let us be fırm – with our God and our right for us, Australia is also trying to fınd a path through and out of this crisis Under the flag of the Southern Cross! in ways that reflects the needs of the society in which it lives. Flag of the Southern Cross, Henry Lawson, 1887 The Catholic tradition holds that the Holy Spirit guides all into the truth. In its search for the path of truth, the Church in Australia And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness seeks to be guided by the light of the Holy Spirit; a light symbolised of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, by the great Constellation of the Southern Cross. That path and like the stars forever and ever. light offers a comprehensive approach to governance issues raised Daniel, 12:3 by the abuse crisis and the broader need for cultural change. The Southern Cross features heavily in the Dreamtime stories This report outlines, for Australia, a way to discern a synodal that hold much of the cultural tradition of Indigenous Australians path: a new praxis (practice) of church governance.

The Church and the Bible – the journey so far Monday, January 4th, 2021 @ 2:00 pm The Rt. Rev’d Peter M. Brignall, Bishop of Wrexham and Chair of the God who Speaks initiative reflects on the origins of this campaign and celebrates its impact and future. The Bible cannot be just the heritage of some, much less a collection of books for the benefit of a privileged few. It belongs above all to those called to hear its message and to recognize themselves in its words. At times, there can be a tendency to monopolize the sacred text by restricting it to certain circles or to select groups. It cannot be that way. The Bible is the book of the Lord’s people, who, in listening to it, move from dispersion and division towards unity. The word of God unites believers and makes them one people.[1] Pope Francis It is the skill of any musician to move their hands and fingers simultaneously and consecutively to bring to life the beauty of the composer’s work, allowing it to be heard and fully appreciated. The musician translates the notes on the paper to sounds in the air for the music to tell its story. This two hands partnership could be used to illustrate that partnership between Bible Society and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales (CBCEW). For the last twelve months we have collaborated to make the Bible sound fresh in our communities though the God Who Speaks campaign. Like any musical piece this initiative has its movements – fast and slow, pianissimo and fortissimo, themes and variations, cadenzas and improvisations, fugues and counterpoint.

U teologiji Josepha Ratzingera tema euharistije zauzima značajno mjesto. Oslanjajući se na povijesno-kritičku egzegezu, on analizira Isusov čin us- tanovljenja euharistije naglašavajući čitav pashalni misterij. Tim slijedom, Ratzinger promatra Krista u odnosu na njegovu Crkvu, te međuodnos Kristovih vjernika te se dubinski se bavi činom ustanovljenja euharistije. Uspoređuje hramsko bogoslužje i ono prve Crkve. * * * Introduction The most significant contribution of the shift of the Church to the present time was made by the Second Vatican Council, convened by Pope John XXIII and completed during the pontificate of Paul VI, from 1962 to 1965.
