(GERI), announces its second ‘integrated lifestyle community (ILC)’ development in Lumban‐Cavinti, Laguna, surrounding Lake Caliraya. To be called THE HAMPTONS CALIRAYA, the 300‐hectare development, will be composed of lakeside residential villages and villas, a town center, two (2) 18‐hole golf courses and clubhouse, and a Marina Club that offers a wide range of water sports activities such as boating, jet ski and kayaking, as well as a shophouse district and resort hotel district. THE HAMPTONS CALIRAYA will also be highlighted by The Hamptons Village, an 11‐hectare lakeside residential village with lots ranging from 500 square meters to 2,100 square meters. The village, which will have close access to the lake and the proposed Marina Club development, will have its own clubhouse and a private marina. “The development’s key highlight is Lake Caliraya as the community revolves around the lakeside concept, inspired by The Hamptons New York, which has become a major vacation spot to America’s elite society. Nagoya, Japan 464-8601 http://www.gsid.nagoya-u.ac.jp/ Introduction It was in the evening of July 24, at a Hotel in Hokkaido, when I received the fax from Dr. Osada, Dean of the Graduate School of International Development (GSID), Nagoya University, in which he proposed to change the site for the ninth annual Overseas Fieldwork (OFW 2000). A travel advisory issued by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs covering Bohol province and other places in the Philippines, affected his final decision. As program director, I accepted his judgment. In January 2000, with a generous subsidy from the Foundation for Advanced Studies on International Development (FACID), members from OFW Committee and professors from the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) visited several places in Laguna Province and Bohol Province to look for suitable sites for OFW 2000. After many heated discussions – both provinces were highly evaluated for their attractive sites and open-minded municipal and provincial government officials, they eventually decided on Bohol. We unfortunately gave up Bohol in July for security reasons, however, fortunately Laguna was still in our hands. Of course, the sudden change of locations from Bohol to Laguna added extra work for our colleagues from UPLB, even though Laguna is their home province.

It aims to promote sustainable development by ensuring that accounting for natural resources and the services provided by the ecosystems are mainstreamed into development planning. One of the two pilot test sites in the Philippines is the Laguna Lake Basin where lies the largest and most economically important lake in the accounts was developed which includes a land account containing land Philippines.
