UNWTO Forum on Talent Development and Education in Tourism December 1-2, 2015 - University of Deusto, Bilbao, Spain Co-organized by: UNWTO & University of Deusto, Bilbao, Spain Speakers Profile José María Guibert Rector, University of Deusto Born in Azpeitia (Gipuzkoa) in 1962. He has lived most of his life in Azpeitia, San Sebastian and Bilbao. Some time away: two years in Valladolid, a year and a half in Berkeley (USA) and a course in Manila (Philippines). He studied industrial engineering (University of Navarra, Donostia) and earned a doctorate in industrial engineering (University of the Basque Country, Bilbao). He studied philosophy and theology (University of Deusto, Bilbao) and Bachelor of Theology (Berkeley, California, USA). He speaks Basque (C1, EGA), English (C2, Proficiency), and French. At present he is the Rector of the University of Deusto (since 2013). Carlos Vogeler Director-Executive Secretary of Members Relations and Regional Director for the Americas – UNWTO Carried out his studies in Spain and Canada and graduated in Tourism Business Administration at “Rey Juan Carlos” University in Madrid. Post- graduate in Business Administration by the Business School IESE of the University of Navarra – Spain. Held managerial positions in the Tour Operator Pullmantur, (Deputy Managing Director) and in RCI, part of the American group Wyndham Worldwide, where he was Vice-president of Western Europe and then Vice-president of Global Account Strategy & Industry Relations. He was Chairman of the Affiliate Members of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) from 2005 to 2008 representing the private sector and is also a professor at “Rey Juan Carlos” University in the Dpt. of Business Economics and the author of various text books on international tourism structure. Since December 2008 he has joined the UNWTO Secretariat, as Regional Director for the Americas and in January 2014 he was appointed Director- Executive Secretary of Member Relations. David Airey University of Surrey, UK, 4th UNWTO Ulysses Laureates Professor Airey began his academic career at Surrey in 1975 and stayed with the University until 1985. After eight years with the Government Ministry responsible for tourism education and three years with the European Commission, he returned to Surrey in 1997 as Professor of Tourism Management. Professor Airey served as Head of School from 2000-2002 and as University Pro-Vice Chancellor from 2001-2009. In 2004 he was awarded the EuroChrie President's award for outstanding achievement and in 2006 was recipient of the Ulysses award from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for his work in tourism education. In 2007 he became co-chair of the UNWTO Education Council. He retired from his full-time post in 2009 but remains as Professor of Tourism Management at Surrey, combining this with other work both in the UK and overseas. He is an elected Academician of the Academy of Learned Societies for the Social Sciences, elected Fellow of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Fellow of the Tourism Society, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality, and member of the International Association of Scientific Experts in Tourism and the Tourism Research Centre. Ricard Santomá Dean, School of Tourism and Hospitality Management Sant Ignasi - Ramon Llull University Ricard Santomà is the Dean, General Director and an associate professor in the areas of Business Management and Quality Management at the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management Sant Ignasi (ESADE - Universitat Ramon Llull). He Holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Universitat Ramon Llull, a Master’s Degree in Information Society from Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, a Postgraduate in Human Resources Management from Universitat Pompeu Fabra and Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Universitat de Barcelona. Recently he obtained the Advanced Management Program Degree at ESADE and the Business Opportunities and Financial Challenges Program at Wharton Business School. His main research areas are focused in service quality management in hospitality and in service performance. He is author of several books and papers presented in international conferences. Ricard Santomà has been a visiting lecturer at Oxford Brookes University, Maastricht Hotel Management School, University of San Francisco, and Universidad Antonio Ruiz de Montoya (Lima-Perú) Violet Cuffy Lecturer in Tourism Management School of Arts, Social Science, and Management, Queen Margaret University. Dr Cuffy is currently a lecturer in Tourism Management at the School of Arts, Social Science, and Management, Queen Margaret University. She holds strong research interests in Island Tourism, Carnivals, Creole Culture & Festivals, Diaspora Tourism, Tourism Policy and Product Development, Tourism Education and Training, Lifelong Learning. In addition, she has background in Tourism Consultancy at both the small business and government level with an emphasis on community tourism and Ecotourism planning and development. She is a member of Toastmaster International, a public speaking organisation and forth coming author of the edited books: Carnival, Culture & Tourism and Lifelong Learning for Tourism: an international perspective. Mertxe Garmendia Bereciartu Director of Tourism, Economic Development and Competitiveness Mertxe Garmendia Bereciartu has the responsibility for boosting tourism through promotion activities, promoting regulatory development projects in tourism and controlling tourism planning procedures: registration, licensing, claims and inspection. She is also key in developing sustainable tourism management plans, promoting and boosting tourism cooperation bodies of local character and promoting the development of certified quality in companies and tourist destinations. Ms. Garmendia Bereciartu also significantly contributed to actions in training to match supply of human resources destined for the needs of industry and entrepreneurship and / or new tourism products, business cooperation and plan, manage and monitor sectoral aid. Chris Cooper Oxford Brooks University, UK, UNWTO Ulysses Prize Laureates Professor Chris Cooper is Professor in the department of Business and Management in the Faculty of Business at Oxford Brookes University, UK. Professor Cooper was Dean of the Faculty from 2009-2013. During Professor Cooper's time as Dean of the Faculty of Business it has achieved five-year accreditation by EPAS for its BA (Hons) Business Management and BA (Hons) International Business Management degrees and its three Hospitality MSc programmes. Before joining Oxford Brookes University Professor Cooper built up the School of Tourism at the University of Queensland where he was Foundation Professor of Tourism and Head of the School of Tourism.Professor Cooper gained his undergraduate degree and PhD in Geography from University College London. He works with international agencies in tourism research and education, including the European Union, the International Labour Organization, the OECD and ASEAN. He works primarily with the UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) where he held the Chair of the UNWTO's Education Council from 2005 - 2007. He is the author of a number of journal papers and books in the field and was awarded the United Nations Ulysses prize for contributions to tourism education and policy in 2009. Asunción Fernández-Villarán Ara Professor and Director of the Tourism Doctora en CC. Económica y Empresariales por la Universidad de Deusto. Master en Gestión Avanzada por la UD y Master en Turismo y Marketing por la UNED. Profesora de la Universidad de Deusto desde el año 1993. Sus áreas de especialización y conocimiento se ubican en la gestión y organización de empresas y destinos turísticos, marketing turístico y turismo para todos. Últimas investigaciones: Hoteles y Precio; Revenue Management; Hacia Destinos Inteligentes Socialmente Innovadores; Tourism in open mobile networks and new methods of measuring tourist flows; Aplicación de nuevas tecnologías de la información y la comunicación en la gestión y comercialización de golf de producto (finalista del Premio investigación sobre el producto Golf e innovación patrocinada por el centro Euro-Mediterráneo). Actualmente Profesora titular y Directora del Departamento de Turismo de la Universidad de Deusto. Acreditada por Unibasq Alvaro de la Rica Vice Rector, University of Deusto Doctor in Economics and Business from the University of Deusto. Master degree in Economics and Business Administration and Advanced Management from the same university. He is also a lecturer for the Master programme at the Institute of Leisure Studies at the same university since 1995. He has also worked as a teacher in different faculties of the University: Faculty of Law, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Philosophy and Education Sciences (FICE). His areas of teaching knowledge are located in the following areas: Business Organisation and Marketing and Market Research. He is currently Vice President for International Relations and Secretary General of the University of Deusto. Previously, he was vice dean Bilbao campus of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences and Dean of International Relations at the same university. He also assumed the management of the School of Tourism (Bilbao and San Sebastian campus campus) and Director of the School of Secretarial Studies at the University of Deusto. In addition, he is a trustee of the Foundation Xavier responsible
