Toyota Australian Country Cricket Championships in Shepparton, Victoria 2018/19 TOYOTA CRICKET AUSTRALIA AUSTRALIAN cricketaustralia COUNTRY CRICKET @CAPathway CHAMPIONSHIPS SHEPPARTON, VIC 3 - 11 JAN 2019 WELCOME CRICKET AUSTRALIA IS PROUD TO SUPPORT THE 2019 TOYOTA AUSTRALIAN COUNTRY CRICKET CHAMPIONSHIPS IN SHEPPARTON, VICTORIA. Australia’s regions have a rich history of producing some of our nation’s best cricketers and for over 30 years, country cricketers have been able to showcase their talents at these championships. Cricket plays a key role in so many regional and rural communities. Representing your community is always a tremendous honour, but to do so alongside other cricketers identified as the best country players in the nation is particularly special. That’s why these championships are so significant; they not only provide a breeding ground for Australian cricket’s next generation of stars but also demonstrate the vital role cricket plays in community development in our regions. In 2019, the Toyota Australian Country Cricket Championships are being held in the heart of Victoria’s foodbowl – the City of Greater Shepparton. Five men’s teams and seven women’s teams will gather from across Australia and the East Asia-Pacific region to contest the title of Australian country champions. We look back to the 2018 championships where we saw outstanding performances from the Men’s New South Wales and Women’s South Australian teams who took out the titles. Joe Price (NSW) scored 277 runs and took 17 wickets as men’s player of the tournament and South Australia’s Brittany Perry led her side with 280 runs in a dominant display as player of the tournament in the women’s competition. 2019 will be the fourth consecutive championships with an all- women’s division. There have never been more opportunities for women and girls to play cricket in this nation, and we hope this tournament continues to provide pathways for our best women’s country cricketers to continue their cricketing journey. Thank you so much to the City of Greater Shepparton, our presenting partner Toyota, Cricket Shepparton, Cricket Victoria, Kookaburra, and the many volunteers and support staff who make this event possible. To each and every one of our participants, players, umpires, coaches and volunteers, we wish you the all the best throughout the tournament and hope you will enjoy the contest on the field and the camaraderie off it. Firstly a massive congratulations to David Martin and his victorious 2nds team on winning “Back To Back” District 2nds Premierships. It was a weird season for the 2nds who only lost 2 games in the Home and Away games however finished the year in 3rd position. Having a gutsy win in the Semi Final set them up for a big Grand Final and the Premiership was already in the bag just after tea on the 1st day! Congratulations guys and let’s hope a few of you step up into the 1sts next season and help them have a big year. Well done also to Dougie and Dermott who as first year Captains steered our 3rds and 4ths into Grand Finals. Unfortunately we came up short in both games however, the Club is rapt that a winning culture is now instilled amongst our grades and a hunger to do one better next year I’m sure will spur the boys onto a successful year in 2017-18.
