SECONDARY SECTOR 2.1.1.1.Issues involved in the implementation of PMEGP Scheme (Pending since March 2014) Panchayats are issuing licenses only after installation of machinery and banks insists for Panchayat licenses/NOC before disbursement of loans. Citing this reason many PMEGP applications are getting returned. A common direction is necessary for minimizing beneficiary grievances in this front. In the 115th Meeting of SLBC, Kerala held on 16.03.2015 at Trivandrum, Sri. James Varghese, IAS, Principal Secretary, Local Self Government Department informed the following 3 stage process for issue of license for running an industry. (i) Building permit (ii) License to install (iii) Running permit/licence 1 He informed that building permit is given once building is ready. License to install is immediately given on production of various NOCs of various statutory agencies and once it is installed running permit is given. Running license can be given only after installing the equipments concerned and this can be given only in the final stage.

  • 1. Introduction
    1. INTRODUCTION 1.1. History Kasaragod, the northernmost district of Kerala, is endowed with rich natural resources and is noted for its majestic forts, ravishing rivers, hills, green valleys and beautiful beaches. The rich and varied cultural heritage of the district is portrayed through spectacular presentations of Theyyam, Yakshagana, Poorakkali, Kolkali and Mappilappattu. Seven languages are prevalent in Kasaragod. Malayalam is the administrative language. Other languages are Kannada, Tulu, Konkani, Marati, Urdu and Beary.Prior to State reorganization, Kasaragod was part of the South Kanara district.Kasaragod became a part of Malabar district following the reorganization of States and formation of unified Kerala State. Later, Kasaragod Taluk of Malabar district was bifurcated in to Kasaragod and Hosdurg Taluks and integrated with the then newly formed Cannanore district. Kasaragod became part of Kerala following the re-organization of states and formation of Kerala in 1st November 1956.The district was Kasaragod Taluk in Kannur District. The formation of Kasaragod district was a long felt ambition of the people. It is with the intention of bestowing maximum attention on the development of backward area, Kasaragod district was formed on 24th May,1984 as per GO (MS)No.520/84/RD, Dated 19.05.1984 by taking Kasaragod and Hosdurg taluks from the then Kannur district. The name Kasaragod is said to be derived from the word Kasaragod which means Nuxvemied Forest(Kanjirakuttam). 1.2. Physiography Kasaragod is bounded on the north and the east by Dakshina Kannada and Coorg districts of Karnataka State, on the south by Kannur district and on the west by the Lakshadweep Sea.

V. Neethu1* and R. Miriam2 1*Center for Natural Hazards and Disaster Studies, University of Madras, Chennai, India. 2Department of Geography, Nirmala College for Women, Coimbatore, India. ABSTRACT The excessive use of pesticides in agriculture has an adverse impact on human health and the environment. Environmental health problems vary from region to region, reflecting the geography, climate and the level of economic development. Many health problems are associated with poverty and lack of fundamental resources. The aerial spraying of pesticides leads to suspension of toxic compounds in the environment. The residue of pesticides accumulates over years which lead to gradual occurrence of diseases. Kasaragod, the northern most district of Kerala, is a lush region with large cashew plantations. The use of pesticides in the cashew plantations has resulted in long term negative impacts on the health of the people living in the vicinity of plantations as well as in remote regions. The affect of pesticides on the health of settlements in remote area has to be understood along with the physiography of the region. The role of physiography in the spread of diseases has been systematically studied and analyzed using GIS technique. The result shows that a large number of victims have been identified in the settlements near to the river banks.
