I am sitting on top of a hill near my home in East Lothian, near Edinburgh, looking out across the Lammermuir Hills and reflecting on what has been a fantastic 2010 sporting season in Scotland. The green shoots of spring are emerging and Scotland is gradually coming alive! It’s a great feeling having a spring, summer and autumn ahead of us and with so much out there to do and see. I’m getting excited about a trip to the Outer Hebrides in June to fish my way through the islands of Barra, South & North Uist, Harris and Lewis. Long evenings, great fishing, breathtaking scenery! Sporting Salmon catches have been at an all-time high on many of our Scottish rivers. The northern rivers including the Thurso, Alness, Helmsdale, Halladale have all experienced remarkable catches and many records broken. One angler had 12 fish to his rod in a day, 80 fish on a beat in a week, over 3000 fish caught on the Thurso in 2010, the best ever for 100 years! The grouse shooting season across northern England and Scotland has also been very positive with some of the best records since 1992. There is real hope and genuine excitement that recent grouse management innovations are paying dividends and the peaks and troughs are a thing of the past. Despite the hard winter many estates are reporting very encouraging spring counts and a low worm burden so let us hope for a good spring. These healthy reports have resulted in a strong demand to head north once again, to enjoy some great sport in 2011.     DUN FHINN KILDALTON, ISLAY AN ARCHAEOLOGICAL SURVEY DATA STRUCTURE REPORT May 2017 Roderick Regan Summary The survey of Dun Fhinn and its associated landscape has revealed a picture of an area extensively settled and utilised in the past dating from at least the Iron Age and very likely before. In the survey area we see settlements developing across the area from at least the 15 th century with a particular concentration of occupation on or near the terraces of the Kintour River. Without excavation or historical documentation dating these settlements is fraught with difficulty but the distinct differences between the structures at Ballore and Creagfinn likely reflect a chronological development between the pre-improvement and post-improvement settlements, the former perhaps a relatively rare well preserved survival.     A Highland Gentleman: The Roshven Fiddler Farquhar MacRae By Shona McMillan Google “Farquhar MacRae” and little information will be found pertaining to this fiddle and box player from Rosh- ven. Yet, in 2000, his funeral at Glenfinnan was one of the biggest ever seen as hundreds of people traveled from all over the Scottish Highlands and Islands to pay their re- spects to this most remarkable man. As a musician, he was not recognized as a prolific writer of tunes or as a formal teacher of students. Nevertheless, in Scotland’s traditional music scene, his name is synonymous with Highland mu- sic at its best. So, for this kindly, generous, fondly remem- bered man, it is fitting that his legacy is not to be found in the factual, emotionless listings of the Internet but rather in the living musical legacy which he gave so freely to others. From village hall dances to the largest of traditional music concerts around the world, the love and passion for mu- sic which he knew and instilled in the young is itself now being passed on for the benefit of subsequent generations. Many of today’s internationally acclaimed West Highland musicians recognize his influence in their most formative of musical years. Iain MacDonald of Roshven Records relates, “Growing up in Glenuig, I knew Farquhar since childhood. He had a significant influence on my musical upbringing and was Farquhar with the Glenuig schoolhouse in the background the first person I ever played with professionally… A quiet, gentle, self-effacing man, he would be surprised at the huge influence he has had on so many and the high regard in which he occupied by people working the land.

Citation and Commencement 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Conservation of Salmon (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2019 and come into force on 1 April 2019.
