Corestudiodesign CORESTUDIODESIGN Betsy Boykin is the founder of Core Studio Design, a landscape architecture firm specializing in institutional and commercial projects. She graduated with a Master of Landscape Architecture from the Harvard Univer- sity Graduate School of Design (GSD) and with a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Art History from Williams Col- lege. She has worked with several offices, including Child Associates and Hargreaves Associates in Boston, and founded the landscape studio at Ayers Saint Gross in Baltimore, where she worked on the Pratt Street Concept Design. She is currently working on a mixed income apartment development in East Baltimore, the Lillian Jones Apartments, with The Bernstein Companies on the renovation and expansion of an I. M. Pei complex in Southwest Washington, DC, with Forest City and the State of Maryland on the Maryland Public Health Laboratory in Baltimore, and with The College of William & Mary on their Campus Master Plan and New Fraternity Housing Precinct Study and Design. Where the 2009 Campus Master Plan provides a blueprint for the overall growth of the campus, the current report is specifi cally aimed at providing detailed parameters for landscape development—a plan and guidelines that will help preserve and enhance the character of the campus’ landscapes. DISCUSSION The Bethesda Downtown Design Advisory Panel (DAP) is an integral part of the Bethesda Overlay Zone. The role of the DAP is to provide advice and recommendations that will heighten design excellence and improve the quality of architecture, urban design and landscape architecture in downtown Bethesda. The DAP is composed of five volunteer members and an ex-officio member representing the Planning Director’s Office. The panel currently includes three registered architects, one of whom represents the local community, one registered landscape architect, and a member of the development community. The original DAP members appointed by the Planning Board in 2017 served staggered initial terms of two, three and four years, thereafter serving three-year terms. According to the Rules of Procedure, panel members interested in remaining on the panel may submit a letter requesting to renew their term to the Planning Board for approval. The Board reappointed two-year-term panel members Qiaojue Yu and George Dove in 2019. The initial three-year panel member terms for Karl DuPuy and Damon Orobona concluded in September 2020. The initial four-year term for Rod Henderer will expire in September 2021.
