The survey gives an overview of researcher mobility in Estonia and the factors that influence mobility, and draws parallels with similar surveys conducted in other countries. For the first time the survey studies the motivation of foreign researchers for coming to Estonia and the main reasons of Estonian researchers to go abroad to do research and to return to Estonia. The purpose of the project EST-MOBILITY- NET was to set up in Estonia a network of mobility centres giving mobile researchers and their families up-to-date information and support in all aspects related to mo- bility. The Estonian network, consisting of Archimedes Foundation, the Estonian Acad- emy of Sciences, the University of Tartu, Tallinn Technical University, the Estonian University of Life Sciences, and Tallinn Uni- versity, is a part of the pan-European ERA- MORE Network. -

TODAY We Are Celebrating Our Children's Slava SVETI SAVA
ST. ELIJAH SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH 2200 Irwin Street, Aliquippa, PA 15001 Rev. Branislav Golic, Parish Priest e-mail: [email protected] Parish Office: 724-375-4074 webpage: stelijahaliquippa.com Center Office: 724-375-9894 JANUARY 26, 2020 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Saint Sava Born Prince Rastko Nemanjic, son of the Serbian ruler and founder of the Serbian medieval state Stefan Nemanja, St. Sava became the first Patriarch of Serbia (1219-1233) and is an important Saint in the Serbian Orthodox Church. As a young boy, Rastko left home to join the Orthodox monastic colony on Mount Athos and was given the name Sava. In 1197 his father, King Stefan Nemanja, joined him. In 1198 they moved to and restored the abandoned monastery Hilandar, which was at that time the center of Serbian Orthodox monastic life. St. Sava's father took the monastic vows under the name Simeon, and died in Hilandar on February 13, 1200. He is also canonized a saint of the Church. After his father's death, Sava retreated to an ascetic monastery in Kareya which he built himself in 1199. He also wrote the Kareya typicon both for Hilandar and for the monastery of ascetism. The last typicon is inscribed into the marble board at the ascetic monastery, which today also exists there. He stayed on Athos until the end of 1207, when he persuaded the Patriarch of Constantinople to elevate him to the position of first Serbian archbishop, thereby establishing the independence of the archbishopric of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the year 1219. Saint Sava is celebrated as the founder of the independent Serbian Orthodox Church and as the patron saint of education and medicine among Serbs. -
The Case of Estonia Raul Eamets
Restricted macroeconomic policy and flexible labour market: the case of Estonia Raul Eamets First draft Introduction Following paper gives a brief overview of general macroeconomic developments in Estonia during 1992-2009 with focus on labour market and labour policy issues. We try to shed the light on factors influencing growth and explain labour market flexibility as one of the major factor of fast growth and economic adjustment. Radical and rapid introduction of market oriented institutions accompanied by high social costs are the most characteristic features of Estonian economic reforms. In general, the following characteristics describe Estonian economic policy options in 90-s: annually balanced state budget, fixed exchange rate and currency board type of monetary system, flexible labour market liberal trade policy, openness of economy, high speed of privatisation, flat income tax and low tax burden Important is that these policy options did not changed during different political coalitions. Despite of ideological platform of different parties, liberal economic policy low taxes, currency board arrangement and balanced budget has been always economic priority number one. This created trust and credibility and Estonia had one of the highest inflow of FDI per capita among post communist countries. But as result we can see also greater fall in output than in most CEE states, also relatively high inflation and very fast restructuring of economy. Also we can see increasing unemployment and drop of average nominal wages during economic recession. Because of annually balanced budget, low tax burden and currency board system we can claim that fiscal policy and monetary policy tools of government were very limited in Estonia. -
Globalization and Orthodox Christianity: a Glocal Perspective
religions Article Globalization and Orthodox Christianity: A Glocal Perspective Marco Guglielmi Human Rights Centre, University of Padua, Via Martiri della Libertà, 2, 35137 Padova, Italy; [email protected] Received: 14 June 2018; Accepted: 10 July 2018; Published: 12 July 2018 Abstract: This article analyses the topic of Globalization and Orthodox Christianity. Starting with Victor Roudometof’s work (2014b) dedicated to this subject, the author’s views are compared with some of the main research of social scientists on the subject of sociological theory and Eastern Orthodoxy. The article essentially has a twofold aim. Our intention will be to explore this new area of research and to examine its value in the study of this religion and, secondly, to further investigate the theory of religious glocalization and to advocate the fertility of Roudometof’s model of four glocalizations in current social scientific debate on Orthodox Christianity. Keywords: Orthodox Christianity; Globalization; Glocal Religions; Eastern Orthodoxy and Modernity Starting in the second half of the nineteen-nineties, the principal social scientific studies that have investigated the relationship between Orthodox Christianity and democracy have adopted the well-known paradigm of the ‘clash of civilizations’ (Huntington 1996). Other sociological research projects concerning religion, on the other hand, have focused on changes occurring in this religious tradition in modernity, mainly adopting the paradigm of secularization (in this regard see Fokas 2012). Finally, another path of research, which has attempted to develop a non-Eurocentric vision, has used the paradigm of multiple modernities (Eisenstadt 2000). In his work Globalization and Orthodox Christianity (2014b), Victor Roudometof moves away from these perspectives. -

Successful implementation of the National Strategy in ensuring conditions for local integration and repatriation calls for establishment of concrete mechanisms, instruments and measures at the republican, federal and local levels. It also requires more intensive cooperation with the international agencies and donors and numerous solutions in respect of organisational, legal and financial issues. This daunting task shall be coordinated by the Committee for Refugees, War Affected and Internally Displaced Persons of the Government of the Republic of Serbia headed by th e Vice President Dr Nebojsa Covic. The first results are to be expected in the course of 2002. In view of the enormous costs thereof, the National Strategy shall be presented to the representatives of the international community. -
The Serbian Armed Forces As the Postmodern Military

Year Vll, Vol. 11 Original scientific paper pp. 71-89 Vanja G. Rokvić1 Faculty of Security Studies, University of Belgrade Zoran S. Jeftić2 IFaculty of Security Studies, University of Belgrade The Serbian Armed Forces as the Postmodern Military Abstract One of views in contemporary research of civil–military relations is the postmodern view of the role of the military in the post–Cold War period. Charles H. Moskos et al suggest a typology that is suitable for cross-national re- search of civil-military relations. These typological trends, used as variables for assessment along the lines of the modern, late modern, and postmodern para- digm, are: perceived threat; force structure; major mission definitions; media relations, homosexuals in military; dominant military professionalism; public attitude toward the military; civilian employees; women’s role; spouse and mili- tary; conscientious objection. The subject of the Moskos study were developed Western countries considered to be “advanced democracies”. We address the question of whether the typology developed by Moskos can be applied to coun- tries in the process of transition such as the Republic of Serbia and whether the Serbian Armed Forces belong to the group of postmodern armed forces. With regard to research in the field of civil- military relations in Serbia and available data in this paper we analyzed some of the variables, such as: perceived threat; force structure; major mission definitions; dominant military professionalism; public attitude toward the military; women’s role and conscientious objection. -
Democratic Security Sector Governance in Serbia
PRIF-Reports No. 94 Democratic Security Sector Governance in Serbia Filip Ejdus This report was prepared with the kind support of the Volkswagen-Stiftung. This watershed event symbolizes not only the end of a decade of authoritarian rule but also the beginning of a double transition: from authoritarian rule to democracy, on the one hand, and from a series of armed conflicts to peace, on the other. This transition has thoroughly transformed Serbian politics in general and Serbia’s security sector in particular. This October, Serbia’s democracy celebrated its tenth anniversary. The jubilee is an appropriate opportunity to reflect on the past decade. With this aim in mind, the report will seek to analyse the impact of democratization on security sector governance in Serbia over the period 2000-2010. In order to do so, in the first part of the report we have developed an analytical framework for studying democratic security sector governance, which is defined as the transparent organization and management of the security sector based on the accountability of decision-makers, respect for the rule of law and human rights, checks and balances, equal representation, active civic participation, public agreement and democratic oversight. -
Memory of the World Register Nomination Form Ref N° 2004-11
MEMORY OF THE WORLD REGISTER NOMINATION FORM REF N° 2004-11 PART A – ESSENTIAL INFORMATION 1 SUMMARY The Miroslav Gospel, a manuscript dating from around 1180 with miniatures of outstanding beauty, is the representative of a group of illuminated manuscripts of specific style and iconography resulting from fusion of elements of the West (Italy) and the East (Byzantium). This Serbian script that the concept of book decoration shares with other Orthodox Slavs and the style with the miniatures originating from mid-Italian scriptoria, is actually one of the most important testimonies of the artistic influences paths made from the West to the East and back. The Miroslav Gospel documents the liturgic structure of the evangelistary and an important stage of development of the Rascian orthography, the importance of which goes beyond the mediaeval Serbia boundaries. The valuable material - parchment and gilding - has been preserved almost completely and documents well the endowment power of Christian princes in the Balkans by the end of the 12th C. By its style which is the mixture of the influences from the West and the East, the Miroslav Gospel is the unique manuscript of its kind in the region, as well as in the world. By its beauty and uniqueness the Miroslav Gospel will influence later other manuscripts of the region, as well as of the Medieval Europe. This manuscript represents the most precious and significant document in cultural heritage in Serbia. 2 DETAILS OF THE NOMINATOR 2.1 Name (person or organisation) Unesco National Commission of Serbia and Montenegro President Mr. Jovan Ćirilov National Museum, Belgrade Mr.
