The Chinese Shipyard DSIC Acquires FORAN PRESS RELEASE The Chinese shipyard DSIC acquires FORAN February 2016-The SENER engineering and technology Group has signed a contract with the Chinese shipyard Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. Ltd. (DSIC) for the implementation of the shipbuilding CAD/CAM System FORAN, developed by SENER. DSIC is operated under the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), which is a public company that has been listed on the stock market. The license contract has been signed between SENER, DSIC and SENER´s partner in China, United Force Corporation. The scope of the contract includes the installation of permanent licenses of the FORAN System in different disciplines including Hull Forms and Naval Architecture, Hull Structure, Machinery & Outfitting, Electrical Design and Drafting. In more than 100 years of history since the foundation of the Chinese shipyard, DSIC has created numerous glories and brilliant achievements during the development process of the China’s Shipbuilding Industry. The successful implementation of FORAN system in DSIC will strongly push FORAN expansion in China. For its part, SENER’s Marine Unit is strengthening its presence in Asia, as China, Japan and South Korea are currently the worldwide leaders in shipbuilding. The keel of the 1,200 passenger vessel designed by the engineering and technology group SENER was recently laid in the Factory No. 2 of POSCO PLANTEC, in Ulsan (South Korea). SENER representatives attended to the keel laying ceremony, which was presided by members of the Zanzibar’s Government, the owner of the vessel. The ship will operate in Northern Mozambique, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Tanga and Mombasa.     PRESS RELEASE SENER announce software contract The Spanish company SENER, Ingeniería y Sistemas S.A has closed a contract with UK-based BAE Systems PLC for the integration between FORAN CAD/CAM System and PTC’s Windchill PLM System to be used in the design and manufacturing activities of Type 26 Program. According to the contract, FORAN-Windchill Integration (FWI) will be implemented in BAE Systems Naval Ships in Scotstoun and Portsmouth. FWI is being deployed following a phased approach. Key milestones include: - Publishing and synchronization of Type 26 items and components: July 2015 - Change Management: December 2015 - Configuration Management: December 2016 BAE Systems Naval Ships will use FWI as one of the key business transformation activities for the Type 26 program with the main objective of improving the built-in quality of the BoM by integrating CAD & PLM applications and processes. As a result of this contract, 250 licences of FWI have been installed. Other services delivered by SENER include training, customisation and on-site technical assistance. Some of them will be shown at the Middle East Rail event, that will take place in Dubai on March 8 and 9. In the UAE, SENER is developing technological engineering projects in Stages 1 and 2 of the Etihad railway network, after completing the tram study for the light rail system (LRT) of Abu Dhabi. In Oman, the company is involved in the Section 1 of the national railway network and, in Qatar, it has provided services of Independent Checker Engineer and Site Supervision in the new LRT Project developed by QDVC (Qatar Diar – Vinci Construction) in Lusail. Also in the Doha Metro, SENER is carrying out the design of the civil engineering work on the elevated section of the Red Line South, as well as the detailed design and the construction phase coordination of the architectural finishing and landscaping. This experience is completed with projects in other countries such as Saudi Arabia, where SENER has finished the tender design for the entire network of the Riyadh metro and is now currently working as Independent Checker Engineer (ICE) for the winning contractor of package 3 (Lines 4,5 and 6) FAST Consortium. For five years, Gaia will observe and catalog a billion stars, 1% of those populating the Milky Way, through its two telescopes and their corresponding instruments. This mission represents a qualitative leap forward in the field of astrophysics, as it is expected to multiply by 10,000 the astrometrical data (position, distance, relative velocities and photometric data) currently available to the scientific community that was collected in the 1980s by the Hipparcos scientific mission. Gaia will allow scientists to draw a 3D map of our galaxy at an unprecedented level of accuracy and obtain data on other nearby galaxies such as Andromeda. In its sweep of the celestial sphere, which will take place twice a year, it is expected to record data on thousands of new objects, providing valuable information for all the subfields of astronomy and cosmology.
