Sport mode was great, and while it does reduce your range you can see the change as soon as you swap modes. You have more space than you think, because the boot floor drops down. The thing I don’t like are the windows. They are not tinted, and while this isn’t always a problem, driving in the hot NZ sun while stuck in traffic was not good. For the first time in a long while I could feel my skin burning and turning red. My butt also got burnt after a beach trip. We now have plans to wrap this and have the windows tinted. Until then, I have to lay a towel on the seat and steering wheel to prevent burns. Sally is right on the about the windows. They appear to be light on UV treatment and don’t seem quite up to the NZ summer sun. The same can’t be said for the glass roof, which helps make the car appear fantastically spacious and opens further than you would expect. That boot. It is a marvel. Our large dog crate slips in like it was made for it and our full-size mountain buggy gets in with room to spare. The boot lip is high, but this is an understandable penance for the available space. And even with the two-level boot floor in place there is room for charging cables underneath. Also impressive has been the MG Pilot driver assistance system. Sure, it is no Autopilot, but as an enhanced cruise control system it is absolutely fine. It is a smidge ‘decisive’ in its steering input but does not suffer from the false warnings that seem to mire such setups from other emerging brands - and some legacy ones. Efficiency has been decent. We are averaging around 17kWh per 100km, giving us an easy chance of hitting that 250-270km range prediction. yundai New Zealand has thrown us the keys to a Hyundai Kona EV for three Hmonths to really see how living with the popular little EV is. We have big plans for the car – more on that to come – but first our city- based petrol-car driving staffer Robert Barry tested it out in a city environment.
