A prayer to celebrate the Ignatian Year God of all people, You were there when the cannonball shattered the leg of St. Ignatius, shattered his dreams, and shattered what he assumed his life would be. Even in a moment of pain and uncertainty, doubt and darkness, you spoke to Ignatius a word of peace and light. You showed him the path to you and the person he might become. We may not be soldiers, standing in the path of a literal cannonball. And yet, we’ve been hit all the same. Cannonballs shatter our own hopes and dreams and expectations. Like Ignatius, may we hear the compassionate voice of your Son in the aftermath of these cannonball blasts. May we seek the face of Christ even when our dreams are shattered. May we turn and follow Jesus with the courage it takes to change and grow. As we journey through this Ignatian Year, may we be shown the path to you, God of all people, and live out our vocation, becoming the person you have invited us to be. Give us the grace to work for reconciliation every day: with you, with others All peoples, and with your creation. Open our eyes so we might see all things new in Christ. Amen. clap your hands. Filled from my youth with the deepest veneration for Father Isaac Jogues, whose amiable character and heroic death attracted even those who could not appreciate fully his virtues as a Christian and a priest, I had read in manuscript the life written by Father Felix Martin, my guide and constant encourager in my historic studies. To its publication I earnestly looked forward, hoping to be able to translate it into English. In the long delay I contributed what I could to make the illustrious mission- ary known. When the Life by Father Martin finally ap- peared, my work on the translation was soon begun ; but a respected friend, the Rev. Joseph M.

WOODSTOCK LETTERS INDEX Volumes 1-80 1872-1951 Compiled by GEORGE ZORN, S.J. JESUIT LIBRARY MARQUETTE UNIVERSITY NE AUFERATUR! Woodstock College Press Woodstock, Maryland 1960 Marquette JESUIT ARCHIVES University r.; » //.- ,, FOREWORD Woodstock Letters during their first two decades published each year a table of contents. Thereafter, an annual index ap peared. These indexes, while generally more than a table of contents, are not an adequate key to the mine of information contained in the Letters. In addition to the annual indexes, the Letters have pub lished five other indexes, including the present one. The first of these, called Index A, published in 1888, covers the first ten volumes (1872-1881). It is divided into three parts: Historical Papers, Biographical and General. Biographical is further subdivided into Sketches, Notices, Obituaries and Mentioned. The second of the indexes, called Index B, is not dated but according to a note prefixed to Index A was published in 1888 or shortly afterwards. It covers volumes 11 to 15 and has the same divisions as Index A. These two indexes are still of some value for the first fifteen volumes and references to those volumes in the present index can be further controlled by consulting them. The third of the indexes, published in 1898, covers the first twenty-five volumes of the Letters and is divided into three parts: A General List of Articles with Authors, An Index of Authors, Sketches and Obituary Notices. In a foreword, the editor of the time, Father Samuel H. Frisbee, notes that the List of Articles with Authors was prepared for "the con venience of our readers, and to preserve, while they could yet be obtained, the names of the authors of the different articles which have appeared in the Letters for the past twenty-five years." This index is, consequently, still of value.

  • With the Greatest Love
With the Greatest Love A Collection of Novices’ Selected Reflections Sacred Heart Novitiate, Philippines January 2021 With the Greatest Love Lord Jesus, What weaknesses did You see in us that made you decide to call us, in spite of everything, to collaborate in Your mission? We give You thanks for having called us, and we beg You not to forget Your promise to be with us to the end of time. Frequently we are invaded by the feeling of having worked all night in vain, forgetting, perhaps, that You are with us. We ask that You make yourself present in our lives and in our work, today, tomorrow, and in the future yet to come. Fill with Your love these lives of ours, which we put at Your service. Take from our hearts the egoism of thinking about what is ‘ours,’ what is ‘mine,’ always excluding, lacking compassion and joy. Enlighten our minds and our hearts, and do not forget to make us smile when things do not go as we wished. At the end of the day, of each one of our days, make us feel more united with You and better able to perceive and discover around us greater joy and greater hope. We ask all this from our reality. We are weak and sinful men, but we are Your friends. Amen. ______________________________________ Fr. Adolfo Nicolas, SJ Superior General of the Society of Jesus, 2008-2016 Dedication On this day we celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord, we present this collection of novices’ selected reflections as PRESENT to our beloved families and dearest friends, to our brothers in the Society of Jesus, and to all who have been God’s presents to us in our ongoing interior journey.
