Contact person Mrs Vicki Richards Principal’s foreword Introduction The intent of this report is to provide parents and the wider school community with information that is common for all state and non-state schools throughout Queensland. It provides an overview of the programs and achievements of Newmarket State School during the 2014 school year. Newmarket is a small but growing inner-city school with a proud history. Excellence in learning and strong community values are two distinctive features of our school. The active role of parents in the P&C and in daily school activities strengthens our community and contributes to the range of opportunities available to our students. The core business of our school is having quality programs to allow students to achieve in the eight key learning areas - and within these programs, a commitment to literacy and numeracy is fundamental. This report also includes important information about student performance as well as links to further information on the MySchool website. Crucial Errors in Murder Investigations Bond University Press
Why is it that some people are convicted of murders that they did not commit, while others are not conyicted of murders that they did commit? Australian Police Services are generally well funded, so something more must be involved. Just what that is, is investigated in this book. To minimise the prospect of future errors, we need' both to scrutinise past cases where errors have been revealed, and to investigate police training procedures with a view to uncovering any errors of omission or commission, to see what scope there is for improvements. Each of us has good reason to take an interest in such matters, since any one of us could be a victim if we are in the wrong place at the wrong time. In fact all of us are victims to the extent that some guilty parties continue to walk free on our streets, and as taxpayers all of us fund the additional costs of dealing with crime, including the sizeable compensation payments that are made to those whose wrongful convictions are quashed. This-book deals with instructive cases which continue to agitate the public mind, and makes practical suggestions for improved procedures. This church was relocated in 1921 to the present site at 58 Enoggera Road where it is included in the suburb of Newmarket. The St James’ site also contains a timber rectory built circa 1925 and a brick church designed by the Brisbane Date of Citation — June 2017 Page 1 architectural firm of Hall and Chambers, constructed in 1944 under wartime building restrictions. Since the construction of the brick church, the original church has been in use as a parish hall. History The first Anglican Church services in Kelvin Grove were held in the local Oddfellows’ Hall in 18961 1. In 1899, after the Anglican Church Mission proposed the construction of a new church in the locality, 84 perches (over 2,000 m²) in Thurlow Street (then Edith Street) were purchased from the McCook family for £62. The church’s design was allegedly based on a church at Goodna and was for a building which would accommodate 120 people and a choir of 12 boys.1 2 The new timber church was dedicated on Sunday 21 July 1901. -
