Disney Photogrammetry

Attention, production companies: you can now location scout from the sky.

We’ve created two applications that offer major studios a way to map and model potential sets and shoot locations for TV and film production.

• Scout in a Box: This web application is designed for use by location scouts for TV and films, but can be utilized by anyone who wants to capture large swathes of outdoor space from all angles. Simply open the app and outline the area you want to capture with your finger. Based on this info, the drone will auto-populate a flight path, launch and fly over the site to capture photogrammetry-ready images. Which is where the next part comes in...

• Photogrammetry as a Service (PHaaS): Photogrammetry is the art of capturing real-world objects in order to build 3D models. Simply upload the images captured by the drone from Scout in a Box. The PHaaS web application will store those assets and build a high-res 3D model of your scouted location in only a few minutes. From there, you can view your model from any distance and all angles, along with its associated meta- data (GPS coordinates, AI-generated descriptive tags, scout notes, etc.).

These solutions utilize a DJI drone, 3D mapping and photogrammetry technology and were designed, through our partnership with Disney, for the purpose of scouting locations for major motion pictures. However, there are applications for this tech outside of Hollywood as well. The two, in conjunction, can be used to survey land for construction, real estate, research or resource purposes.

Disney Dumbo Interactive Movie Poster

A 2D display is so passé.

In partnership with Disney Studios, we’re showcasing a special interactive movie poster — an engaging and empathetic experience that brings to life the beloved Dumbo character from the upcoming Disney movie that will be released later this month. Simply walk up to the “digital mirror” movie poster and make a face to share your emotion with Dumbo. The demo will then recognize your emotion and respond by providing exclusive Dumbo content tailored to it. At the end of the experience, you’ll see your face showcased on a personalized, digital Dumbo movie poster that you can snap a photo of and share socially.

This experience runs on Microsoft Azure Cognitive Services (emotion detection API) and a custom-built Unity application, and while we’re calling this an interactive movie poster, the technology offers far more potential. As a product, it is effectively a modular and highly portable interactive-experience- in-a-box that could be used by any B2C company searching for a unique way to deliver next-gen digital marketing activations and engage and excite an audience.

Voyager is a new, award-winning way to experience fully immersive cinematic VR. Incorporating 6DOF, motion, haptic feedback, scent and more, this platform has been adopted by Universal, Dreamworks and Disney for exhibiting VR Films.

This year, we are presenting Microgiants, a multi-sensory VR experience that tells the story of insects and plants in a micro-ecosystem with vivid detail and elaborate design. Come discover the secret world of the forest floor, brought to life with 360 animation, magnified hundreds to thousands of times, presented through VR and enhanced with smell. Led by reminders such as water drops and aphids, you’ll enter and become ever-more immersed in the MicroWorld.

This demo showcases the advanced power of virtual reality as a multisensory medium with the ability to elevate not only entertainment and storytelling, but increase the “reality” of any virtual scenario, making for experiences that are more believable and immersive than ever.

In this action-packed augmented reality game, you’re fending off a swarm of bots from the Experience Cantina balcony as they attack from all sides. While technically a game, Capture the Cantina is also a cutting-edge technology bridge between the digital and the physical world. The game exemplifies AR’s potential to educate by enhancing the real world with interactive and actionable real-time data. It also exemplifies the power of IOT and connected platforms by utilizing instant API calls — in this case, smoke machines.

This not only makes for an entertaining gaming experience, but can be used to manufacture situations for training purposes, creating realistic but risk- free environments where those in medicine or the military — along with plant and factory workers and others — can practice their craft, ensuring their preparedness when they enter the real field.

The solution comes in the form of ‘Make Your Space’ by DuPont Corian® Design, a unique augmented reality application that enables shoppers to visualize and plan their dream bathroom.

This accessible AR application — run on an iPad — offers shoppers the opportunity to “step into” three virtual photo-realistic bathroom environments and explore designer-curated furnishings and accessories from rustic, modern and classic collections. Users can then bring elements from the virtual showroom environment into their own physical space, giving them the opportunity to truly “try before they buy” like never before. Best of all, if they like what they see, they can purchase it through the app!

The application of AR technology and 3D content affords DuPont Corian® Design the unique opportunity to allow its customers to progress through the full e-commerce lifecycle while fully visualizing and validating their design choices at critical decision points.

We joined forces with the famed automobile manufacturer to allow fans to explore the highly anticipated vehicle and the company’s historic design developments via a one-of-a-kind virtual reality experience.

This application allows users to get up close and personal with the design of the new Porsche 911 through VR cinematics, different 360-degree perspectives of the interior and exterior, spoken text and other fun features, inspiring appreciation of the Porsche tradition — past and present.

It’s time to think outside the brick-and-mortar box.

Today’s complex factors — shifting market trends, liquid consumer expectations, overwhelming data and reporting, costly customer churn and more — make merchandising and product development extremely challenging. But now retailers can have better results without expensive and time-consuming physical experimentation — that’s where Virtual Merchandising (Merchandising in VR) comes in.

Accenture Virtual Merchandising offers brands in retail and consumer goods (or any consumer-facing industries) a way to respond to market trends more quickly and increase customer loyalty by experimenting and testing innovations in an agile, virtual environment.

In this demo, users (virtually) shop until they drop by strapping on a VR headset with embedded eye tracking. Immersed in a full-scale, simulated store, they can move through the space to shop by picking up products and placing them in carts — all while the technology monitors what they’re looking at, for how long, and why.

This solution — which uses a Qualcomm® VR reference design headset, powered by Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 845 Mobile VR Platform — enables risk-free product and experience testing and offers any brand insight into its customers’ desires and what really captures a customer’s attention. The mobile solution is also designed to allow companies to extend their reach to more geographically dispersed participants and perform market research faster, more affordably and on a larger scale.

Curious how falcons spend their day?

We teamed up with The Peregrine Fund, the world leader for conserving birds of prey, to imagine how VR technology can be used to change the future for these near-extinct birds of prey and their environments, and to serve as a catalyst for change by engaging people and inspiring them to take action.

This VR 360 video, presented on Go wireless headsets, creates a day in the life of the endangered species by immersing viewers in the California condor’s habitat and providing a real birds-eye view of their world.

Brands across multiple industries are pivoting to experience-led, contextual transactions, and must be able to digitally enable them at scale. This demo showcases how any brand can better tell its story and establish a meaningful relationship with its consumers and create transactional opportunities beyond traditional ecommerce, generating monetization opportunities for consumers to subscribe, reserve or donate.

Applications for this technology include health and life science for virtual care, education and retail pop-up store opportunities at events and venues where physical stores wouldn’t be possible.
