My Passion Is Creating Art. I Draw Inspiration from Moments in Life and Global Surroundings. the Most Creative Magical Moments My passion is creating Art. I draw inspiration from moments in life and global surroundings. The most creative magical moments occur as I become lost in my artwork, at times this may be very intense as the energy is flowing and all is aligned. I cherish the moments of purity that occur with the creative process. This especially holds true for both the literal and figurative, “begin with a white canvas.” From the time the first brush strokes-up against the surface of the canvas, artwork has been conceived. What follow’s next are limitless possibilities of what it shall become. Creativity doesn’t occur on command the energy and vibrations surrounding and influencing us act as a stimuli. Music is a key contributor that shapes my artwork; I could never create in silence! Many times, songs become hypnotic chants allowing me to fully escape into the sacred moments of creation. Each painting is a part of me, a glimpse into my soul at the moment of its inception. Thanks for joining me in my artistic journey I look forward to the excitement of the unknown art I will create. I live grateful for today, cheers to creativity! www.RebeccaBarba.com Artist Rebecca Barba is a first generation Cuban-American from South Florida. She describes her creative style as a combination of Expressionism, Impressionism with hints of Surrealism. Rebecca was selected to create a mural-sized painting for the Latin Billboard Music Awards. She was also featured as a guest on CNN Español and the Artist Spotlight feature in the Print Publication: Latin Trends Magazine. Her latest series, “Chakra Enlightenment” is based on the colors and movement of Barba’s own Chakras and the energy she feels and receives from others. These paintings reflect an abundance of positive vibrations inspired by her connection with family and friends. Barba’s creations are rooted from interpretations of moments in the artist’s life expressed by passionate dance-like brush strokes in captivating hues. These are appropriately called, “Art of Life by Rebecca B.” A collection of paintings derived from the artist’s life experiences; life is what inspires her! www.RebeccaBarba.com Rebecca Barba C/V Rebecca Barba Born in Hialeah, FL Residing in South Beach, FL www.RebeccaBarba.com https://www.youtube.com/user/RebeccaArtofLife https://instagram.com/rebeccabarba/ EDUCATION 2016 Apprentice, assisting FinDAC during Art Basel rooftop mural 2005 South Florida Art Center 1992-95 Florida International University, Minor in Visual Arts 1980-91 Miami Dade Public Schools Art Focus & AP Studies SOLO EXHIBITS 2013 August “Art of Life” Gold & Pepper, South Beach, FL October “Evolución 4.0” Dragon Lounge, SLS South Beach, FL 2012 September “The Circles of Life,” Baltus Collection, Miami Design District, FL GROUP EXHIBITS, selections 2017 Experience SOFI South Beach, FL July Cielito Artisan Pops Wynwood, FL September 2016 South Florida Home & Design Show South Beach, FL March 2015 Gallery @ Westfield Mall Plantation, FL March-May 2014 SCOPE Art Miami South Beach, FL December Art Takes Miami Exhibition CG Bank: Art Under the Stars” Coconut Grove, FL November ArtScapes at Moreno’s Cuba South Beach, FL February 2013 Katsuya, SLS South Beach, FL Sept.-December Marriott, South Beach, FL July - • Nature-Based Coastal Defenses in Southeast Florida Published by Coral Cove Dune Restoration Project
Nature-Based Coastal Defenses Published by in Southeast Florida INTRODUCTION Miami Beach skyline ©Ines Hegedus-Garcia, 2013 ssessments of the world’s metropolitan areas with the most to lose from hurricanes and sea level rise place Asoutheast Florida at the very top of their lists. Much infrastructure and many homes, businesses and natural areas from Key West to the Palm Beaches are already at or near sea level and vulnerable to flooding and erosion from waves and storm surges. The region had 5.6 million residents in 2010–a population greater than that of 30 states–and for many of these people, coastal flooding and erosion are not only anticipated risks of tomorrow’s hurricanes, but a regular consequence of today’s highest tides. Hurricane Sandy approaching the northeast coast of the United States. ©NASA Billions of dollars in property value may be swept away in one storm or slowly eroded by creeping sea level rise. This double threat, coupled with a clearly accelerating rate of sea level rise and predictions of stronger hurricanes and continued population growth in the years ahead, has led to increasing demand for action and willingness on the parts of the public and private sectors to be a part of solutions. Practical people and the government institutions that serve them want to know what those solutions are and what they will cost. Traditional “grey infrastructure” such as seawalls and breakwaters is already common in the region but it is not the only option. Grey infrastructure will always have a place here and in some instances it is the only sensible choice, but it has significant drawbacks.

  • Miami Beach Getting Ready for Art Basel Dec. 1-4
Miami Beach getting ready for Art Basel Dec. 1-4 (AP) MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Live graffiti painting. A colossal rose bed soaring 20 feet high. Early photos of Andy Warhol, a Picasso up for auction and a naked woman living in a pig pen. They're all part of the lineup for Art Basel Miami Beach, which runs Dec. 1-4, with a host of related events beginning Nov. 30. The pig pen installation will undoubtedly be the most jaw-dropping event at the art fair. Known for photographing herself nude in subway tunnels or in front of graffiti walls, performance artist Miru Kim will be living with pigs for her performance "The Pig That Therefore I Am." "The immediate connection between pigs and me will be felt through seeing the living bodies mingle through skin," Kim told The Associated Press. A glass barrier will act as "an insatiable gap between the spectacle and the onlooker, just like in a zoo." The international art fair, sister event to Art Basel in Switzerland, is celebrating its 10th year in South Florida this December. Miami's art scene has grown tremendously since it started, and last year 46,000 people attended, not counting thousands more who took in ancillary events piggy- backing on the main arts-filled weekend. The trendy exhibits, films, parties and performances attract not just art collectors but also art-lovers of all means, tourists and many others who want to see and be seen. "The cultural growth emerged about 20 years ago when the world discovered Miami through the lens of South Beach," said Tony Goldman, chairman and CEO of The Goldman Properties Co., which has helped transform the city's historic districts into thriving, trendy neighborhoods like South Beach and the Wynwood Arts District.
