Cast Biographies RILEY KEOUGH (Christine Reade) Riley Keough, 26, is one of Hollywood’s rising stars. At the age of 12, she appeared in her first campaign for Tommy Hilfiger and at the age of 15 she ignited a media firestorm when she walked the runway for Christian Dior. From a young age, Riley wanted to explore her talents within the film industry, and by the age of 19 she dedicated herself to developing her acting craft for the camera. In 2010, she made her big-screen debut as Marie Currie in The Runaways starring opposite Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning. People took notice; shortly thereafter, she starred alongside Orlando Bloom in The Good Doctor, directed by Lance Daly. Riley’s memorable work in the film, which premiered at the Tribeca film festival in 2010, earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Milan International Film Festival in 2012. Riley’s talents landed her a title-lead as Jack in Bradley Rust Gray’s werewolf flick Jack and Diane. She also appeared alongside Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey in Magic Mike, directed by Steven Soderbergh, which grossed nearly $167 million worldwide. Further in 2011, she completed work on director Nick Cassavetes’ film Yellow, starring alongside Sienna Miller, Melanie Griffith and Ray Liota, as well as the Xan Cassavetes film Kiss of the Damned. As her camera talent evolves alongside her creative growth, so do the roles she is meant to play. Recently, she was the lead in the highly-anticipated fourth installment of director George Miller’s cult- classic Mad Max - Mad Max: Fury Road alongside a distinguished cast comprising of Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Zoe Kravitz and Nick Hoult.

  • By Jennifer M. Fogel a Dissertation Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy
A MODERN FAMILY: THE PERFORMANCE OF “FAMILY” AND FAMILIALISM IN CONTEMPORARY TELEVISION SERIES by Jennifer M. Fogel A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Communication) in The University of Michigan 2012 Doctoral Committee: Associate Professor Amanda D. Lotz, Chair Professor Susan J. Douglas Professor Regina Morantz-Sanchez Associate Professor Bambi L. Haggins, Arizona State University © Jennifer M. Fogel 2012 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I owe my deepest gratitude to the members of my dissertation committee – Dr. Susan J. Douglas, Dr. Bambi L. Haggins, and Dr. Regina Morantz-Sanchez, who each contributed their time, expertise, encouragement, and comments throughout this entire process. These women who have mentored and guided me for a number of years have my utmost respect for the work they continue to contribute to our field. I owe my deepest gratitude to my advisor Dr. Amanda D. Lotz, who patiently refused to accept anything but my best work, motivated me to be a better teacher and academic, praised my successes, and will forever remain a friend and mentor. Without her constructive criticism, brainstorming sessions, and matching appreciation for good television, I would have been lost to the wolves of academia. One does not make a journey like this alone, and it would be remiss of me not to express my humble thanks to my parents and sister, without whom seven long and lonely years would not have passed by so quickly. They were both my inspiration and staunchest supporters. Without their tireless encouragement, laughter, and nurturing this dissertation would not have been possible.

This study is the third annual study of diversity of characters in prime time television programming. The study examined the first two episodes of each prime time entertainment series airing on the six broadcast networks. The findings indicate that despite ongoing emphasis, encouragement, and pressure on the part of media advocates, civil rights groups, government officials, and even some entertainment industry leaders, the networks have yet to produce a prime time

  • Film Review: the Passion of the Christ (Director Mel Gibson 2004)
114 Australian Religion Studies Review Film Review: The Passion of the Christ (Director Mel Gibson 2004) Ecce Vir: Conceit, Homophobia and Irony in Gibson's Passion Michael Carden, University ofQueensland My favourite Jesus film is Pier Paolo Pasolini's "The Gospel According to St. Matthew." Mel Gibson's Passion shows that it still takes a gay Marxist to make an effective movie about Jesus. Passion hit the cinemas on a tide of controversy. Arguments raged over the film's violence, possible anti-Semitism and the question of Gibson's own traditionalist Catholic perspective. This latter point particularly bemused me, as the film seemed most eagerly expected and promoted by conservative evangelical Protestant communities. I am not a fan of Gibson as an actor and have not seen most of his films, but, as a biblical scholar, I knew that I had to see the film. Furthermore, as I regard most Jesus films as being too sanitized in representing his execution, I was interested in seeing a film that claimed to show it as it was. Finally the film offered the rare prospect of being played in Latin and Aramaic. However, like the Tower of Babel, the film failed in this conceit, which was symptomatic of a deeper problem. Playing the film in Aramaic and Latin irked me as an attempt to conscript a documentary sense to what was on screen, to make the screen into a window into 30 CE Jerusalem. No film, no text is a simple window onto an unmediated and uninterpreted reality and Gibson's film had not only to harmonize the differing gospel accounts but was also partly based on Katherine Emmerich's 19th century visionary accounts.

Up Close & Personal by March Jacobs Jason Stuart : Lots of new projects keeps comedian busy Ask anyone who are some of the busiest, most out there, and diversified comedians in the U.S. today and without a doubt, lason Stuart would be near the top of the list. With a recurring role on ABCs sitcom MyWife and Kids, a newly released CD titled Gay Comedy Without a Dress, a returning guest appearance on Will and Grace, and recent guest shots on Charmed, Providence,Three Sisters and The Drew Carey Show, as well as a starring role in the romantic feature film comedy, 10 Attitudes being featured in film festivals and due to be released later this year, Jason Stuart says, Things are going very well, better than ever! This is what its all about! Jason will be returning to St. Louis Funny Bone, at Westport, on March 20-24, with his new show entitled the same as his CD, Gay Comedy Without a Dress, which is available for purchase only on his website at www.jasonstuart.com. It was recorded at the Acme Comedy Company in Minneapolis, which is one of my favorite venues, as is the Westport Funny Bone in St. Louis. I am just so thankful for the support of the gay and lesbian community in St. Louis because they have always been there for me, sometimes selling out 8 days solid, when no one else knew who Jason Stuart was. Jason is sporting a new look which comes from the fact hes been working out with a trainer for the past 4 or 5 years, with a renewed vigor to push myself farther than I ever thought I could go and its working! He has new material, new insults, that he targets poor unsuspecting members of the audience with.
