It is hard to believe that it has been three years. Copyright © 2006 Deborah Wasmer. All rights reserved. Permission to copy granted for classroom use only. Not for distribution. The Messiah’s Legacy Page 2 Peter (_______)– It has been the best three years of my life. My life has been changed forever. I am so glad we got to see Him again yesterday. It is such a miracle that He is alive again…I will never forget the feeling of despair when I knew He was dead. Mary Magdalene (_______)– I came back to Jesus seven times to be forgiven and He never turned me away…not even when I was set up by the priests…somehow He could look deep into my heart and know how much I loved Him. Martha got impatient with me, but Jesus never did…that is Who He is. He loves us and understands us. Thomas (_______)– I am ashamed to think that I doubted that He was alive. Why couldn’t I have enough faith to believe your story? Peter (_______)– Thomas, we all had our time of trouble during the weekend. Mine happened Thursday night when I cut off Malchus’ ear and then denied I even knew Jesus. It was a very long weekend. I had to run to the tomb Sunday morning to see for myself that He had risen from the dead. John (_______)– I ran with Peter and we talked to the angel that was sitting in the empty tomb. We all had our doubts, Thomas. Mary Magdalene (_______)– It sounded like music to my ears to hear His voice in the garden. It took me a minute to recognize Him, but He waited patiently for me to really hear Him. Thomas (_______)– It is so nice to know that Jesus forgives us and loves us even when our faith is weak. Jesus is the Friend that I need and He will always be my Best Friend. Tone Chimes – My Faith Looks Up to Thee Scene 2 – Mount of Olives (Peter, John, and Thomas are standing looking up into the sky; pointing upward.) Peter (_______)– Why did He leave us so soon? John (_______)– I can’t see Him anymore. The Messiah’s Legacy Page 3 Thomas (_______)– Do you think we will ever see Him again? (Two angels appear.) Angel 1 (_______)– Why are you looking at the sky? Angel 2 (_______)– Don’t you remember that Jesus told you He would go back to Heaven? Angel 1 (_______) – He will come back in exactly the same way He went up into Heaven. (Angels leave.) Peter (_______)- I didn’t want Him to leave so soon. Thomas (_______)- When do you think He will come back? John (_______)- He said He would send us a Comforter. Why don’t we go back to Jerusalem and wait together and see what happens. Tone Chimes – Hail Him the King of Glory Scene 3 – Peter Preaching in Jerusalem (Peter, John, and Thomas enter.) Peter (_______)– Men of Israel, listen to me. You crucified Jesus, just as Isaiah prophesied many years ago. He was taken by lawless hands and put to death. The prophecy has also been fulfilled that He would not stay dead in the grave. We are witnesses to these facts. He has also sent the promised Holy Spirit. You have accused us of being drunk. We are not drunk. Let it be known today that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ. Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and you shall also receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Messiah’s Legacy Page 4 John (_______)– This promise is for all of you who can hear us and for your children. Repent today and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is all you need. Tone Chimes – Jesus is all the World to Me Scene 4 (Lame Man is sitting on a rug with a cup held out.) Lame Man (_______)– Can you spare a coin or two? Peter (_______)- We do not have any silver or gold. But we will give you what we do have. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk. (John helps Lame Man stand up and Lame Man starts walking, leaping, and saying,) “I’m healed! I can walk again…I’m healed! Praise be to God! “ Tone Chimes – All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name Scene 5 – In a Home in Damascus Ananias is sleeping on the floor facing the audience. Voice of God (_______)– Ananias! Ananias (_______)– Here I am, Lord. Voice of God (_______)– Get up and go to the street called Strait and ask at the house of Judas about a man called Saul of Tarsus. He has seen you in a vision and is waiting for you to come and put your hand on him so that he might see again. Ananias (_______)– Lord, I have heard about Saul from many people. They have all said that he has only come to hurt Your people. He has a letter from the chief priest giving him permission to put anyone in jail who calls on Your name. Are you sure you want me to go find him? Voice of God (_______)– Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. The Messiah’s Legacy Page 5 Ananias (_______)– I will do what You have asked me to do. Ananias leaves. Saul is lying on the floor facing the audience. Woman in Home enters with a tray of food. Woman (_______) – Saul, you must eat. You haven’t eaten anything in three days. Saul (_______)– I’m not hungry. Woman in Home (_______) – How can you not be hungry? You haven’t eaten in three days! At least drink some water. Saul (_______)– No, thank you. Ananias knocks on the door. Woman in Home answers the door. Ananias (_______)– I am looking for a man named Saul from Tarsus. Is he here? Woman in Home (_______)– Yes, he’s here. He’s blind. He has been very delirious and has not had anything to eat or drink in the three days he has been here. All he does is pray and talk about seeing Jesus in a bright light on the road while he was traveling here. I heard that he came to persecute the Christians that live here, but he doesn’t seem to be too dangerous in his current state. Ananias (_______)– I have been sent by God to see him. Where is he? Woman in Home (_______) – Over there. Ananias goes over to Saul, bends down, puts his hands on Saul’s eyes, and says a silent prayer. Saul sits up and looks at Ananias. The Messiah’s Legacy Page 6 Saul (_______)– I saw you in a dream and was promised by God that you would come. Thank you for giving me my eyesight back. I know who my God is and I will now serve Him until the day I die…no matter what. I want to tell everyone more about who He is and how much He loves them. Tone Chimes – More About Jesus Scene 6 – In a home in Joppa Dorcas is lying on the floor on her back. (She is dead). Women Helped by Dorcas are sitting close to her with extra clothes in their hands. Woman 1 (_______)– Dorcas was a such a wonderful woman. Woman 2 (_______)– She always gave us food when we were hungry. Woman 1 (_______)– She made clothes for my children. Woman 2 (_______)– She never turned anyone away who needed help. I will miss her so much. Peter enters. Woman 1 (_______)– Peter, you came. Dorcas is dead. Woman 2 (_______)– She always helped anyone who needed help. She made me these clothes and gave me food. Woman 1 (_______)– She made clothes for my children. She helped everyone. Peter (_______)– Please leave the room. Peter kneels down beside Dorcas and prays and says, “Dorcas, arise.” Dorcas sits up and Peter helps her stand up. Woman 1 and Woman 2 come back in and give her a hug saying, “She’s alive! Dorcas is alive! Woman 2 (_______) - Thank you, Peter, for coming when we called you.

  • The Office of Woman in the New Testament
The Office of Woman in the New Testament GEORG GUNTER BLUM 1 Indications of services rendered by women in the life of Jesus THERE are no direct statements by either the earthly or the Risen Christ on the position of women in the Christian community. In spite of this, the question as to the attitude of Jesus to women is both justified and significant. Although there is no answer either in developed teaching or in single statements, yet certain conclusions can be drawn from particular situations in the life of Jesus. The influence of Jesus, by word and deed, was exercised on both men and women without distinction. The Gospels depict for us a series of encounters of our Lord with women, and we are shown emphatically that it was precisely the women who were honoured by his miracles and his revealing teaching. 1 But of greater importance is the fact that a small group of women lived constantly in the society of Jesus and followed him, just as did the disciples. Luke the Evangelist emphasises this fact, and refers to it in one of his summarised reports of Jesus's activity: 'And the twelve were with him, and certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, and Joanna, the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others which minis tered unto him of their substance' (Luke 8:1-3). This report is not exclusive to Luke, nor is it according to a specially Lukan construction.

  • MARY MAGDALENE: a MISUNDERSTOOD BIOGRAPHY – ‘Six Men & Six Women’ Series
MARY MAGDALENE: A MISUNDERSTOOD BIOGRAPHY – ‘Six Men & Six Women’ Series You know if you are feeling tired this morning, you should really appreciate the crew who were here at 8:00 this morning. If I have ever been teaching and felt like I needed to inject an audience with something, I just witnessed it. I mean they were tired, but they were troopers for coming out and being a part of the early service. I know that you guys are excited today because it is one of those days where we will just break our New Year commitments as we begin to go off the deep end. I mean we will be eating really well today, since it is Easter, and now we are hosed. It just goes awry from here on. So I hope you have a good Easter Sunday with good fellowship. And I hope that this morning you will sense something from God’s word that you can take away from the message that will be an encouragement to you. Let me start off with a story. Several years ago, I was serving as an associate pastor in Conway, Arkansas at Celebration Church. It was a new church, and I was there on staff. I came in one Sunday morning, and I saw my bride getting a cup of coffee. So I went up behind her and began to give her a massage on her shoulders. But then she turned around, and lo and behold, it wasn’t my wife! I was horrified in that moment. What made it even worse was she was a first time guest to our church and I never saw that lady again.

  • Bible Characters Class
Bible Characters Class Lesson 1 - Apollos Text: Acts 18:24-28 I) Origin: Apollos is a Jew, born in Alexandria, Egypt…in northern Africa. II) Some personal traits: A) Apollos is described as eloquent. The primary meaning of this is “learned” or very educated; possessing a storehouse of words and a powerful mind. B) He was mighty in the Scriptures. This would seem to imply that Apollos was skilled at using the Old Testament to make arguments religiously. He was capable of convincing people that Jesus is the Christ (see verse 28). C) Apollos was fervent in spirit (v.25). He is said to have been boldly preaching and mightily or vigorously refuting jews (vs. 26 & 28). III) Apollos’ Error For the most part, he knew accurately the way of truth as revealed in the gospel of Jesus; except he was wrong concerning the baptism of John the baptist still being valid. — Two everyday Christians (not an apostle or evangelist) but tentmakers, Aquila & Priscilla, took him aside privately when they learned of his error and instructed him the way of Christ more perfectly. Was it much ado about nothing? Were Aquila and Priscilla a couple legalists? Majoring in minors? If you were Aquila and Priscilla, common tentmakers, upon hearing a highly educated preacher being off track on just one item, would you have approached him to correct him? If you were Apollos, and taken aside and corrected by some “lesser” folks, how would you have taken it? IV) Apollos goes to Achaia (Corinth) Acts 18:27 - 19:1a Paul has planted the church in Corinth and now Apollos goes there and waters it.

We, Muslims, are interested not only in the Revelation that was given to humanity through our Prophet, but also, in the Revelations which were given to prophets previous to him. Among the prophet's who had appeared before our Holy Prophet, the Quran has emphasized the importance to the Muslims of Prophet Jesus. Jesus was no doubt sent with a mission to the Israelites; he had also a universal mission.

Mary, the Servant of the Lord Luke 1:26-38 December 22nd, 2019 Big idea: The God-Man would be born to a virgin shown favor by God in order to rescue and reign. Intro Last Sunday we followed Zacharias and Elizabeth, two ordinary people used by God to prepare the preparer, John the Baptist. We skipped through Luke 1, hitting the parts of the narrative that focus on them. Their story closes in Luke 1. They never show back up. This Sunday we turn to a more familiar character in the nativity scene, Mary. While she is the main character in this scene, though her experience we can’t help but look past her to Jesus, the main character in the whole Bible. But let’s not rush too quickly past her. CS Lewis: One man from the whole earth (Abraham) is picked out. He is separated (miserably enough, we may suppose) from his natural surroundings, sent into a strange country, and made the ancestor of a nation who are to carry the knowledge of the true God. Within this nation there is further selection: some die in the desert, some remain behind in Babylon. There is further selection still. The process grows narrower and narrower, sharpens at last into one small bright point like the head of a spear. It is a Jewish girl at her prayers. All humanity (so far as concerns its redemption) has narrowed to that.” (From Miracles, Chapter 14) As we study her description, the words spoken to her by the angel Gabriel, her humble and obedient response, we learn about the humanity that Jesus came to save.

The Church therefore relies upon the traditional concept of a Bridegroom-Bride relationship (read: Christ and His Church), which they say can only be maintained if a male priest serves as the representative of the invisible Christ for his Bride during the Eucharist.

  • The Story of Mary Magdalene and the First Easter Egg
The Story of Mary Magdalene and the First Easter Egg Mary Magdalene has a special place among Jesus' disciples. It was St. Mary Magdalene’s great love for Christ that kept her standing at the foot of the Cross, weeping and grief-stricken, until her Savior died. It was her heartbreaking pain of loss that drove her to his tomb at the first light of day in order to anoint his body. As a reward for her great love and faithfulness, she is the privileged person to whom Jesus first appeared on Easter Sunday morning; she was the very first witness of the Resurrection. It was Mary Magdalene, a woman, who went and told the Apostles that Jesus had risen from the dead; for this she is called "Apostle to the Apostles." After Jesus' Resurrection and Ascension, Mary Magdalene continued her mission as an evangelizer, contemplative, and mystic in the heart of the Church. MARY MAGDALENE AND THE EASTER EGG According to tradition, after Jesus' Ascension into heaven, the Magdalene—a wealthy woman of some importance—boldly presented herself to the Emperor Tiberius Caesar in Rome to proclaim the resurrection of Jesus Christ, with an egg in hand to illustrate her message. Holding the egg out to him, she exclaimed for the first time what is now the universal Easter proclamation among Christians, "Christ is risen!" The emperor, mocking her, said that Jesus had no more risen than the egg in her hand was red. Immediately, the egg turned red as a sign from God to illustrate the truth of her message.

  • Who Is Mary Magdalene?
Who is Mary Magdalene? The traditional image of the Magdalene as a repentant prostitute, not to mention the contemporary speculations about her being a priestess or goddess figure or bride of Christ, are quite mistaken. They fail to do justice to the biblical woman behind the legend.
