The highest number of kennels, that was, 40 were registered in the Lesser Poland voivodeship, in the region of Podhale, which corresponded to 33.06%. For a 4-generation population, the inbreeding rate was 6.52% for male dogs and 6.79% for female dogs. The highest inbreeding rate was found in a nCH and PL groups consisting of both male and female dogs. The inbreeding rate was significantly higher in 2005–2014, amounting to 6.94% for male dogs and 8.22% for female dogs in comparison to the period 1994–2004 when it was 5.87% and 4.88%, respectively. An increasing ancestor loss coefficient (AVK) was found, which may result in an increased number of inbred animals. In particular, it referred to female dogs in the nCH, PL, and Z group, whereas a significant increase of AVK was observed in the group of male dogs from foreign kennels. Studies had shown that there was no risk of inbred depression yet; however, the gene pool of the Tatra Shepherd dog breed had become noticeably restricted. -

Żywiecka 36, 30-427 Kraków The German Shepherd seems to be most popular and widely used dog breed in the world and also in Poland. The aim of the work was to estimate inbreeding and relationship coefficients in the population of German Shepherd dogs from the herdbook of Cracow Branch of the Polish Kennel Club. As the material, four-generation pedigrees of 60 animals (17 dogs and 43 bitches) born in 1994-2005 were used. The inbreeding (FX) and relationship (RXY) coefficients among all animals for each sex separately and RXY between dogs and bitches were calculated. Among all 60 animals 54 were inbred (90%). The FX values for all and for inbred animals were: 0.1286 and 0.1429, respectively. In the group of 17 males 16 were inbred (over 94%) and in the group of 43 females 38 were inbred (88.4%). Average FX was 0.1560, 0.1178, 0.1658, 0.1333 for all dogs, all bitches, inbred dogs and inbred bitches, respectively. About 98.9% of 1770 pairs of individuals were related; for all and related pairs the values of RXY were 0.0391 and 0.0395, respectively. -

RESUMO e acordo com a Associação dos Criadores de Ovelheiro Gaúcho (ACOG), esta raça canina tem como seus ascendentes históricos os cães da raça Cão da Serra da Estrela, D vindos de Portugal, e os Scotch Collie, vindos da Inglaterra e Escócia. Sendo o Ovelheiro Gaúcho uma raça bastante comum no Rio Grande do Sul (Brasil) e no Uruguai, e com a cinofilia cada dia mais presente no meio acadêmico, devemos conhecer as características clínicas e genéticas que a raça pode ter herdado na sua formação. Uma das mais conhecidas é a sensibilidade específica a determinadas drogas, sabidamente presente em algumas raças que compartilham a mesma ancestralidade, como os Collies, associada ao gene mutante de resistência a múltiplas drogas conhecido como MDR1, cuja mutação causa aumento na suscetibilidade aos efeitos neurotóxicos de determinadas drogas. -
